BLAM! Snow up the door handles (pics)

Well, I got caught, just like last year. I'm always trying to enjoy the 8 until the very last minute and then BOOM, a bunch of snow falls from the sky. It means it's time to call that dude I'm paying to have an heated interior parking spot 'til end of march and tell him I'm coming with the 8. But first, I had to dig it out...

Two cars, total 1h15 of shoveling and spinning tires.

[1st pic - RX-8] This is what you get with the help of a friendly neighbor and a VERY COOL city employee who cleared the road in front of the 8 with his frickin' huge snowblowing truck. A seriously less cool city employee cleared the sidewalk with his tiny sidewalk-snowpusher cart and buried back one entire side of the car in 10 seconds.

[2nd pic - Neon] The 8 sits on pirelli winter sports so it's able to get by in snow but... I have a dedicated winter beater. The Neon actually gave me more trouble even if it sits on brand new dunlop winter m3s because I did a half-assed job of clearing it out (was tired after the 8). It took 5 (greedy) kids, a 5$ bill and a bunch of pushing to get it moving.

[3rd pic - other car] Just for kicks, here's what "unattended" cars look like right now in my street.

If I were you I would have called a flatbed to tow the 8 to the storage area...pretty dangerous driving on the stock summers no?

Nah the 8 is on some pirelli winter tires that I got for free with the car from the previous owner. This way I can store it late and get it out early in the spring. If the snow is relatively packed and only 3-4 inches it's alright (DSC/TCS lights up a lot tho), but you can get stuck when it's 8-12 inches like today.

It's worth mentionning that the 8 just LOVES cold temperature. After a few dry winter days with some good sunlight, you get the best of both worlds... -20 degrees weather with clean asphalt. Once the engine is properly warmed up, I swear you can feel a definite power increase. It's very noticeable, like on turbocharged cars.

It's going to be fantastic for ski next weekend... we're expecting about a foot of snow in most of southwest quebec with very strong winds right afterwards, so it will probably leave the slopes covered in light powder snow...

Wow, I cringe at the thought of trying to drive through that..

I'd want nothing less than a highly scratched/dented 4x4 with mean looking snow tires and sand bags..

I once traversed down the side of a snowy mountain in my 2wd Silverado. I was on my way back from a ski resort at the top, and that was the single most scary road I've ever driven on.. There were thousand foot drops with minimal railing, and some dude came sliding up behind me, hit me, and dam near bumped me off the mountain.. I hate snow, unless I'm strapped to a board..

For those of you under sunny skies who've never seen the aftermath of such a snowstorm: snow removal in Montreal.

These crew work 24/7 and carry thousands of truckloads of snow... it's actually pretty cool to watch. In the vid you see only one of the big "scrapers" because it's a narrow street but if you go out at night on major roads, sometimes you'll see as much as 6 of them together with a bunch of snowblowers and trucks following... awesome.

What's that white stuff all over the car and the roads. Seems like it's torture for the car.
Never seen that white stuff here in South Texas. At least not like that!

I think I'd have to do STI if I lived in Canada. We usually don't get much snow and if we do mine stays in the garage until its clear. Just changed to snows last night.

It would be nice to get some of that snow down here in Northern California. I need to go skiing soon!!!

I had some Pirelli Snowsports on my G35, and they worked great in the snow. Not optimal though!

How is Tremblant? A buddy of mine and I are looking into meeting up there in march. Seems like it's wicked cheap compared to comparable mountains in New England.
