Damnit! I get to my car this morning, and I noticed the passenger-side window is all the way down. Strange. Then I go to raise it, and nothing happens.
So, sometime in the middle of the night, the window fell into the door, and now the mechanism does nothing.
I'm obviously going straight to the dealer service dept, but, any tips from folks out there that have had similar problems with this or other cars? How serious a mechanical problem is this? Is it an easy fix, or might I need to consider pushing for a whole new door?
Thanks!

The same thing happened to my wife's X5. They fixed it the same day. No biggie I guess. I was complaining about BMW's quality control, but I guess I'll have to shut up now. Besides, the warranty covers that, but it is a pain to take the car in.
Make sure you don't have the "locked windows" switch on. It freezes everything, even driver side operation of the passenger window.
You just need a new window regulator. No need to push for a new door. A window regulator can be either hard or easy to replace depending on the design, but either way it isn't your problem, so with a new regulator installed all should be good as new (or better than new in this case). Don't sweat it.

Yay, everything's fine!
After driving w/o power windows for 10 years, it just didn't occur to me that the windows were just locked. What really threw me was that it was down when I got there this morning. I'm always careful to keep the windows up when I park, so when I saw it down I immediately thought "problem."
I must have accidentally leaned on the buttons when unloading some stuff from the other side of the car last night. Silly me :)
Anyway, thanks for the quick responses, everyone!

I did the same thing one night. You would think you would be able to control the passenger side window, even if it is locked. Weird.

Happened to my ex's Nissan 240sx as well. I remember it was rather pricey (out of warranty time)
