View Full Version : why are 04 RX-8's faster than any other RX8's?
callee 11-28-2007, 08:03 PM We did a little test because I didn’t believe at first but after 10 runs between a 04 rx8 w/ 42k miles and a 06 rx8 w/ 13k miles... the 04 rx8 wins it!!
Both stocks!
Any ideas????

Ohhhhhhh....I think I'll just let this one slide right on by without making any comments! :banghead:
///aldo 11-28-2007, 08:05 PM by how much.. who was the better driver? ect ect
abbid 11-28-2007, 08:08 PM HOw many passengers in each car?
what are the weights of each driver?
was the 06 auto?
were you street racing?
04's weigh less. ^ 0-25mph street racing?
Soravia 11-28-2007, 08:10 PM Maybe it was a Sport Vs GT and there's difference in weight? Maybe someone is driving better? Maybe one car has better engine management?
Mazurfer 11-28-2007, 08:14 PM Still missing a few possibilities guys....C'mon :uhh: :)
rowteree 11-28-2007, 08:20 PM rumor has it as rotaries age, they become faster since they are already fully broken in
///aldo 11-28-2007, 08:24 PM chuck norris was driving the 04
rowteree 11-28-2007, 08:28 PM chuck norris was driving the 04
i heard when chuck norris does push ups he doesnt push himself up, he pushes down the earth
thecow135 11-28-2007, 09:24 PM so mike huckabee says
callee 11-28-2007, 09:28 PM we both traded cars!! 5 times each!!
and
NO ... to street racing!
we did it indoors at my grandfather's old factory! (its big)
but
Seriously guys....
Why are the 04's faster!???
Its wins by a few inches
tajabaho1 11-28-2007, 09:40 PM it has more miles, which means older, older rotaries = faster (if they don't loose compression)
jones75254 11-28-2007, 09:49 PM Making a pretty bold generalization arent you? Because this ONE 04 is quicker than this ONE 06, that makes 04's the fastest? :uhh:
....mind you i own an 04, so i would like for this to be the case, but lets get real here. We would need a much larger sample base to be able to make such a claim.

06's engine isnt broken in yet, as rotaries get older they get faster! As mentioned above
alnielsen 11-28-2007, 11:36 PM 06's engine isnt broken in yet, as rotaries get older they get faster! As mentioned aboveYep, It's true. The engine will be it's fastest just before it pukes its guts out (i.e. blows up).

I have had seven rotary cars and it is true that they do get stronger after you put a few thousand miles on them. The car has less frictions after the surface's smooth out and open up ever so slightly. We call it the engine has loosened up.
N rider89 11-29-2007, 12:17 AM they get better with age, then die.
SkyLee 11-29-2007, 12:34 AM gets faster in age
eviltwinkie 11-29-2007, 03:02 AM Yep, It's true. The engine will be it's fastest just before it pukes its guts out (i.e. blows up).
Uhhh...most engines are at their "fastest" when they puke their guts out...that's generally one of the most common contributing causes of failure...
heh

you talking about engines or your date?
TrochoidMagic 11-29-2007, 03:27 AM though rotaries get faster with a few miles on it, it may be true. the carbon buid-up raises compression giving it better performance, but consequently at its oldest in age with so much buid-up it'll eventually blow the motor. but the truth behind this isn't exclusive to rotaries, such car's as NSX has been said to have the most horses after 45k.
racers have said the rotary is at its strongest before breathing its last breath...sad to say.
enforcer 11-30-2007, 03:39 AM Callee to put it nicely, without some validity of the experimental findings it....

my beautiful 04
never!
valpac 12-02-2007, 06:10 AM a win by inches? well within the margin of error. hell, wind speed and direction could be the answer. you cannot claim a victor based only on your limited test.
Bunique 12-02-2007, 06:45 AM Even the amount of gas in each car throws of your results. Too many unknown variables.
Spin9k 12-02-2007, 07:08 AM How 'bout ECU differences. The '04 ECUs are unique I think, then they changed them. The '04s started out with ~250HP before they detuned them, so the potential for motor+ECU matchup to produce high power due to manufacturing tolereance was possible. The later ECUs they likely designed any chance of improved power out of them.
Or..if you don't like that idea...I like the idea of smooth housing reducing internal friction after being honed to a nice finish by a well used '04 rotor.

Why cant it be that the 04s are really faster??, make us owners happier; i mean you guys have the better key we have the better faster engine etc, etc.
