Finally saw one of these on the road yesterday.

I think it's a real sharp looking car. It's not quite as powerful as the new M3, but I would choose the Audi on looks. Too bad I don't have $50,000 sitting around right now :tear:

it looks awfully similar to the new 3 series - the lines down the side and the taillights specifically. wonder if they'll have an rs5 in the line-up too.

RS5 is in the works...not sure how you saw an S5, these are not even on the road yet becasue they are not even for sale yet. I would deffintly buy this over over the 3 series. maybe my next car (it has a better chance of me owning this then a GTR)

A5 (265 hp) = 3 series (230 hp)
S5 (354 hp) = ?
RS5 (lots of hp) = M3 (420 hp)
except that Audi has all wheel drive (i guess that adds weights as well though)
rough numbers

The S5 is definately for sale. I saw it at my local audi dealer. I thought it would look a lot better though. =(

Yep, and I get to drive one at Sears Point this Friday:)
got signed up for the Audi Driving Experience thingy. however from what I was told by others who've done it, the on-track stuff is only lead-follow, not unsupervised.
but, the auto-X course portion is pretty much at-speed:icon_tup:

Yup I did it when they were at the homestead speedway.

My favorite was the RS4 did you get a chance to drive the RS4 and R8?

I wouldn't trade my RX8 for an S5.

If I was stock yeah but not with my mods.

Saw one on our way to the inlaws on Thanksgiving. Highway was packed, only saw the rear and side. Looked very nice in white. Looks much better in person than in photos.

A5 (265 hp) = 3 series (230 hp) (328i)
S5 (354 hp) = 3 series (300 hp) (335i)
RS5 (lots of hp) = M3 (420 hp)
except that Audi has all wheel drive (i guess that adds weights as well though)
rough numbers

S5 (325 lb ft) = 335i (300 lb ft) -- although you reach max torque about 2000 rpms sooner on the 335i

S5 0-60 4.9 = 335i 0-60 4.9-5.3 (depends on magazine)

S5 (3593 lbs) = 335i (3571 lbs)

S5 (14mpg/21mpg) = 335i (19mpg/28mpg)

S5 (starts $50,500) = 335i (starts $40,800) -- although the S5 is better equipped at the starting price, i've never seen a 335i for under $47,000, but that's still cheaper than the S5, plus 4 yr free maintenance!

you can get the 3 series, coupe or sedan (NOT the M3 though) in all wheel drive for 2 grand.

anyway, just thought i'd add some more info!

you know (being an 8 owner) that the horsepower rating of a car is not necessarily the same as the performance rating. Saying that the audi's have more HP pound for pound says absolutely nothing about the car's abilities at all.

i agree msferas. i like the looks of the s5, but i'd take the 335 over it any day. and the fuel economy difference!!

fuel economy lol, the way ive been driving a 335 ive been doing about the same as the rx8 (actually a little better about 19). Love them turbos :)

true - but point being if you would going on a long trip, you COULD get good gas mileage if you WANTED too with the 3, not even if you tried with the s5 :wiggle:

have not seen it, i'll have to look around. but sounds like i'd be very willing to own a wagon if that's the case!

Just got back from Sears Point! what a beautiful day. No I only signed up for the free program, not the $500 one, so I didn't get to drive the RS4 or R8 :-(
but I did drive the TT, A8, & A6 on the auto-X/car control courses, and of course the S5 on the racetrack.
the S5 is fantastic, but is it 2x better than the Rx8 (commensurate w/ price)?? Nope. although it's got great torque out of the corners and nice road manners, still not quite the same visceral 'feel' as the '8...and yes I've had my '8 on the Sears Pt. track as well (see sig heheh). The TT is a bit more in line with the '8 as far as having that feeling of tossablility and direct input.
I agree w/ the other poster who said they'd take a 335ci over an S5 if it came down to plunking your own hard-earned money. but if you handed me the keys to either, I wouldn't complain a bit!

i think that was me who said that - but now it's me agreeing with you -- i'd TAKE either one too! nice you got to drive those cars. i used to work for bmw and got to drive the 335 a while back and it was ridiculously fun! i'd love to try out an audi though on a track.

i was dreaming of this from the day the B6's hit the street years ago. it's a reality now. Audi has finally taken things to another level. the only new car that i love more than this right now is the R8. i must have one someday.

What a beautiful car. Knowing Audi interiors I betcha it'll be one of those cars that you'll love to be in, that pampers you. But having disasterous experiences with my last gen Pissat, not sure I'd want an Audi/VW product again.

are you smoking crack? audi interiors suck. i bet it's comfy, but i bet it's also boring as hell and just thinking about that blinding red backlit interior is enough make my eyes hurt :Eyecrazy:

Buddy, it's not like I'm the only one with the revelation that Audi generally makes the best interiors - red lights aside.

who says "buddy?" didn't intend to offend you, must be a touchy subject for you.

anyway, i'd imagine MOST people agree that german interiors are boring, period. it might be the best ... of the germans ... but i personally would struggle to find many people that would agree with you that on the whole they make some of the best interiors...

oh, for the record, i'm not, nor did i earlier, say the interiors were shotty quality, i said they were boring. i guess "best" can have varied meanings ... in terms of style, layout, and design, audi certainly is no where near the "best", at least in my personal opinion, sir.

i have to agree with you on that the Audi interiors looks so much better then BMW Especially in the odler models but it holds true for the new models as well.
