Talking Soon-to-be RX8 Owner!

Hey guys,

I've been saving up for a while and I'm just about ready to buy my new (used) RX8. I found the forum a few days ago and I've been reading it on and off in my spare time--seems to be a lot of good info! I was wondering what kind of problems I should be looking for while shopping for my RX8 (I'm sure there have been many posts about this but I thought I'd post just to introduce myself so might as well ask). I'm looking for a higher mileage (read: 50,000+) with limited options (low cost). I'm in Pittsburgh if you need someone to take a car off your hands

Right now I'm a sophomore in college so my plan is to autocross in B Stock for a year and then maybe move up to STU if I have enough money to upgrade (I have about half a season's worth of experience in STS). Afterwards (when I hopefully have a nice $$$ flow), I want to get a nice DD and make this my weekend/toy so the RX8 seemed like a good choice

Anyways, just wanted to say hi and I'm looking forward to joining the club!

I think the consensus is to purchase as new as possible or if you get an 04-05 to make sure all TSBs have been completed on your vehicle.

As long as you're going MT you should be ok. Like Ninjanick said - make sure all recalls are done. Check carfax and any other info you can find.

Welcome, and happy hunting!

If you can barely afford the car then it's going to be hard to bear the costs to be comeptitive in STU, much less BS. Most B-stock people around here buy about 3 sets of tires a season at a cost of $3,000 not to mentinon wheels to put the tires on or any other consumables. I could easily afford my RX-8 new and still trying to stomach the cost to co-drive a BS RX-8 next season, I think it came out to around $15-20 bucks PER RUN. You'll enjoy the car though, it's a great autocross car and very capable.
