View Full Version : I need some help
rx-7~rx-8 10-21-2003, 10:22 PM First of all... i will be getting a new car
RX-8 or 350Z
i really love the rx-8, looks really nice
i like the 350z also, looks good
the only thing i am concerned about is RELIABILITY.
i dont give a shyt about .5 seconds less to 60.
i am only 16 years old, and i dont want the rx-8 to be in the dealership or shop alot. 2 or 3 people had there engines replaced which is really scary.
350Z is reliable...
rx-8 is also, but i heard 1 of 1000 people had to get there engines replaced, check engines light and stuff.
last thing, i will drive it to school everyday.. 15 minutes freeway.
Daily driven, and i drive alot.

No, what's really scary is a 16-year-old in an RX-8. You want reliable? Get a used Honda Accord, and some driving experience to go with it. The Z and the 8 will get you into trouble. Heck, I'm 40, and I have a hard time restraining myself in the 8.
Donning Flame Suit...
rx-7~rx-8 10-21-2003, 11:02 PM mt current car is a volvo c70, which i have been drving since 15..
i am working for 350z or rx-8... can you guys just help me make my decison.
RX8Lover 10-21-2003, 11:05 PM rx-8
mikeb 10-22-2003, 03:00 AM driving since 15
how does that work
get the 8
Both are great choices, I think the Zs insurance will be a little more and it will feel a little faster but also heavier. If you can afford the insurance I like the torque of the Nissan engine, but if you prefer a lighter nimbler feel in a car and need a backseat the 8 is a better choice.

lurcher 10-22-2003, 03:40 AM Yup but I'm not sure those back seats are ideal for a teenager's needs...

hahah, i don't think the 8 itself is ideal for a teenager's needs.
i would say go to consumerreports.org to find out reliability issues since they are really adamant about a car being reliable before they can recommend it, however, there obviously is not enough data for the 8 to be recommended reliable since it just came out
the choice is yours to decide, but i think if i was in your shoes and still a 16 yr old, i would definitely opt for the 8 rather than the Z. i dunno, to me having a Z at that age feels so wrong/weird
but like someone else recommended, if you want a reliable car, get a Honda first or even a toyota. I seriously recommend saving that money and investing it into something that earns more money rather than "buying a lifestyle" at your age
choose wisely
cruzdreamer 10-22-2003, 08:18 AM More utility out of the RX8 with back seat, decent trunk size....you can bring all your friends along.....350z is nice but Rx 8 gives you the whole package and then some. Any newer car there will be kinks to work out. I have had a Mazda Protege 5 now for 2 1/2 years approx. and I have had no problems thus far. (37,700 miles on it)
I am a Mazda fan after this car...it's a blast, has people turning their heads, and is reliable. Go for thr RX 8!!!!
rx-7~rx-8 10-22-2003, 06:15 PM thanks.. i appreciate it. my condifence in buying a rx-8 is high, tahknx alot.
rx-7~rx-8 10-22-2003, 09:27 PM One more thing, does anyone have any clue or info. on 2005 rx-8, and if they will create a high-power automatic tranny.

Keep the Volvo, drive another 5 years, get some experience.........what am I thinking, you can't tell teenagers anything.
rx-7~rx-8 10-23-2003, 10:33 PM i know where your comming from, i understand what your saying, its just not like im going to get the car in a week or two, in a couple of months. 4-5 maybe more.
RotorBalls 10-23-2003, 11:31 PM how bout waiting 4-5 years when you've matured
pelucidor 10-24-2003, 12:20 AM Try to drive them both - one will just click with you more than the other. I will say that having 4 seats and some luggage capacity can be really useful sometimes. I remember at your age driving everywhere on my bicycle (10MT!) - times have changed.
Dugless 10-24-2003, 12:34 AM can we please put this topic to rest.
Get the Z if you like it,
Get the 8 if you like it.
When I was 16, I made the wrong choice and got a 911 instead of a Vette.

Omicron 10-24-2003, 08:26 AM Go for the RX-8.
One reason is that it actually *is* more reliable than the 350Z, or the G35 for that matter, in case you've been considering that. (I know I was!) For a good picture on reliability, go to www.edmunds.com, and hunt around till you find the forums. Consumerreports.org is useless unless you subscribe to that organization, and a subscription to the magazine won't help you on their website. Edmunds, on the other hand, rocks!
Second reason is that the 8 is much more practical. I know when I was 16 I appreciated having a back seat, for a variety of reasons. ;) Also used the trunk a lot too.
Finally, the RX-8 has more "sex appeal" than the 350Z does now. The Z's been on the market for a bit, and some of the WOW! factor has worn off. The 8 is still unique and draws an amazing amount of attention. If I wasn't an old married fart, I'm sure it would be a real babe magnet, even more so than the Z.
Hope this helps.
(Damn, I wish *I* could have afforded either one of these cars when I was 16!!!!)
Drive around your city and pay close attetion to what's driving next to you....Were I live there's tons of rustangs and camaros...and now I'm seeing more and more 350 ZZZ's..But only two Rx8's....Do you want to be original or like the crowd???Go for the 8 it'll give you everything you need...Power, Performance, Eye apeal and originality...oh and of course a back seat....!!!
Get both if you like them. Then if you have a reliability problem with one - drive the other.
Keep the volvo too, just in ase the z and the 8 both stop working.
bon911 10-24-2003, 04:06 PM at 16, volvo, Z, and 8... must be nice.

Why not race it???
I'd much rather see someone spend money destroying and expensive car and enjoying it, than destroying their lives and the lives around them with drugs. (As long as they own the car)
Have as much fun as you can afford to without endangering or upsetting others!
rx-7~rx-8 10-24-2003, 10:10 PM Well, some of you thanks for actually helping, and some of you just cant deal with me drving a nice car around, wait til like 4o to buy it, RYTE... i rather buy a suv, when im forty.
Anywyz, thnks for your help.
by the way, i do see alot Z's on the road, i do see alot of 8' on thew road, like a give a shyt.

Nope, not ideal for a 30 something year old either.... but the driver's seat reclines back to almost flat. Still ended up at a motel though... didn't want anything to soil the interior.
starbucks 10-26-2003, 10:59 AM Is that a picture of your 8 somewhere in the Nashville area? What's that building behind your car? It looks familiar for some reason. I have a friend I've visited in Nashville and was just trying to place it. It may just be the architecture that's looks familiar to me. Has a newer construction Nashville look...maybe Memphis.

LOL...give him a break. Most kids email in that language nowadays.
khoney 10-26-2003, 12:47 PM Get the one that'll protect you better when you total it...
djmano 10-26-2003, 02:15 PM i guess most of you guys are against him getting the either car huh. its true, they are very fast/sporty cars for a 16 year old, but it all depends on the maturity of whoever is behind the wheel. i know some 16 year olds who drive better than alot of 30-40 year olds i know.......and vice versa.
if you can afford one and you want one, then buy it. i believe that you should drive as many nice cars as you can when you are young if you have the chance, even if you are spoiled rotten, because there will never be a chance for you to be 16 again driving a nice new Z or 8.
rx-7~rx-8 10-26-2003, 09:23 PM Damn... most of you on this forum are nice n dont blow up n shyt at teenagers. I have fun by taking my car to the track, not at signal lights, by reving the shyt out of it, then slamming the brake, to slow down. I like the rx-8 more, overall, but i cant get manual. So i hope they make a automatic tranny that can hanle more Hp.
