Hello peeps, My 8's starter went out on me at 1700+ miles. Not to mention my previous threads about how hard it was from 1st to 2nd when shifting. Guess what? I had it checked and it was the clutch that was burned out. The springs were loose and it caused the clutch to wear 5 times faster than normal. I have been babying this car since I got it. Always pressed full clutch, but it seems these were the defects I encountered. If your having problems with your shifting I suggest you have it taken in for a check up, it was worth it for me. As for the starter it just went south on Saturday morning in my garage. I will have pics soon. I'm picking her up 2 days from now

i'm still used to the shifting pattern of my last car an eclipse GSX turbo. i got out of first very quickly because it would start to whine at about 20 MPH then stayed in 2nd the power gear for awhile then 3rd and so on. with the 8 you can stay in 1st a lot longer i guess running it all the way up until redline and repeat for each gear if you had enough road for that kind of thing.

Could you describe what you mean by 'went south'? I thought I lost the starter in my 7 once, but it was a really badly flooded engine. Engine turned, but there was zero compression - very scary sound.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your car. My clutch failed too and I had it replaced a couple of weeks ago. Let's hope that it is not a design defect and that the replacement clutches last a reasonable length of time.

1st gear was easy to get in, at about 3500rpm shifting to 2nd would take a hard push to get it in. Same goes for the reverse.

The starter made a high pitch sound and I had my brother look at it while I was attempting to start it, nothing turned in the engine to start the car. Normally I think some of the belts start to spin, but nothing happened to mine. I only heard a squeeling sound, the same sound is made when you turn the key to start the car on an already running engine.
