I'm curious to know how much you guys paid for lojack. I paid $695 here in california.

Any of you guys actually have had to use it? Any success stories? Getting mine installed on my rx8 in a few minutes. I had it on my other car that i traded in, and thankfully i never had to use it.

I got it at spectrum federal credit union for $499.

1st time buyer and luckily have not had to use it so far..

lojack came and left today, they said that my garage in my apartment complex is too low for him to get his van in. I explained to him that there is room for him to get through and that i've had lojack with the same exact van come in for my other car. He wouldn't even get down to check. Getting a different technician to come in tomorrow hopefully he gets to do it.

Why didn't you take your car out on the street or park it somewhere where he can do his work?

Shocka

mikeb
10-21-2003, 05:32 PM
ya
my dealer told me early warning had monthly fees and would be 700 so I said no
Once I got the car home I called lojack and the guy came to my house and installed it for 400 and no monthly fee

hmm... so i guess i could have saved money by going through the dealer. if lojack still refuses to get in my garage i might just try to get a refund. i'm curious to know the percentage of people that bought an rx8 also got lojack.

are they even tranferable if you sell/give you car to someone else?

that's their policy they said they have to do it where public can't see them.

I have thought about getting lojack, my concern is that after its installed, you can be tracked everywhere you go. But then again, I am paranoid.

They won't install it in public because the device is supposed to be "hidden". Also, it may be against your state or local laws to perform work on a car in the street.

mikeb
10-23-2003, 02:56 PM
this is true
when the lojack guy came I wanted to watch the install because I'm like that and he asked me nicely to not watch the install

The guy installed mine on the street, granted it wasn't a major street. He just didn't want me watching him as he did his work.

I've always wondered exactly how effective lojack really is...as in, how many times a car has been recovered via a lojack signal but has already been stripped, damaged, vandalized, etc?

The early warning system sounds functional, but for over $1000 total, doesn't seem like that good of a value compared to alarm systems with pager units that I thought were hundreds of dollars less.

IMO lojack is good
but you are paying for the name also
my last car was stolen so I wanted the best and I didn't even think twice about it.

I wonder how long (on average) it takes for them to locate a car with a lojack....

if its more than 2 hours, forget about it. Especially here in LA. Car will be stripped down to nothing in an hour or two.

mikeb

thats why they call you as soon as 15 minutes if your car moves with early warning lojack

meeh

i talked to the dude that installed my lojack they said they can even program it so that you can get it earlier that 15minutes. thanks according to him.

I had lojack installed and I live in an apartment and park in an open parking lot. They installed it for me right there in the parking lot with no problems. I was also given the option of having them install it while I was at work, which also would have been out in the public.

All you with the early warning system, have any of you had any problems. I had mine installed a month ago and I keep getting notified, even when I have the remote. Already had them look at it, and they are scheduled to look at it again. I just want to see of others had any problems.

$595 for std + $150 for EWS through the dealer

My LoJack was installed in the street because I have no driveway.

Insurance companies will give you a discount, so it pays for itself eventually. Not to mention its usefulness in recovering a stolen vehicle.

depends on the area. When I first got my Probe GT I had it done becuase somome I know in Miami got thier stolen 3 times and got it back each time with Lojack. That being said, here in NYC, cops hve told me Lojack is useless because they find so many signals they can;t find yours.

I remember watching a news report last year in Philly where Channel 29 "stole" a car with Lojack. They then had Philly PD look for the car, but they couldn't find it.

The officer doing the search said it was because it was rush hour and because he was getting a lot of false positives.

I checked out the website but I don't think they offer the LoJack in my area :( . Spokane actually has a problem with auto theft (not quite as bad as some other areas). Still I would like to protect my 8 anyway I can.

mikeb
03-09-2004, 05:29 PM
I have early warning and have had no false calls or problems

having it on my 8 gives me some piece of mind

thanks for the affirmation mikeb. Hopefully they can fix mine soon.

As for insurance - the combination anti-theft and LoJack saved me $50/year. Of course the insurance company reclassed the car and the $50 magically went poof.

In the end, I gained peace of mind.

lojack wont install on the street, i asked

This is crap. They did it in our Mazda 6 on the street. They did it at my wifes work infront of an appartment complex office. Maybe just in Colorado? Or maybe your installer is just being a jerk....

Anyone know if you can install the EWS after you have installed the standard LoJack? No one offered this to us when we got it.

Damn! $400??? That is a lot...maybe when i get my 8. :) So does that give you the keyfob that you have to have to start your car then?

dag
03-10-2004, 07:01 PM
Call your dealer. I ordered my EWS after I ordered the LoJack and they only charged me $150. If you go through LoJack it is $400.

dag

mikeb
03-10-2004, 07:32 PM
the ews does give you the keyfob
and I did check with the dealer back in july of 2003 and they said their was a monthly fee, when I called lojack they said no monthly fee so I used them

dag
03-10-2004, 09:48 PM
Lojack eliminated the monthly fee sometime during the 2nd half of last year. There was no mention of a monthly fee during my purchase from the dealer, but the LoJack documentation stated they no longer charge the monthly fee.

I purchased the Lojack with Early Warning through the dealer for $750 and they had the installer perform the work at the dealership before I picked it up. No false warnings so far. I really prefer the peace of mind. Also no monthly fee. The paperwork I received indicated a monthly fee and I almost lost it! When I contacted the website they indicated that the fee was repealed.
