Hey guys. recently i purchased the HKS racing suction intake and HKS hi power exhaust from lazi. Because im a bit of a noob at modding...it took my friend and I a tad over 5 hours for both installs. with the intake...just alot of little screws with littttle tiny pictures for intructions. but with the exhaust we had a terrible time getting the spring loaded bolts back into place.

although it was tough, we did it with about 5 vice grips =P

so anyhoo the good part...pictures!

My reviews on the 2 parts:

the intake:

I had the intake on for about a week before the exhaust just because of time restraints so i got a great feel for each individual part. This thing is a beast! It sounds absolutely amazing...it has a much throatier, deep tone to it. but the sound only kicks in when your go 50% or more throttle. Definitely a great mod. Didn't see a huge increase in power, but it was there for sure.

The exhaust:

I had no idea how loud the exhaust would be, i was hoping that it would be like the intake. 50% or more throttle and then the sound would kick in. I was a bit wrong on this. In the low rpms it seems like it is really deep and throaty, it almost reverberates in your ears. This I did not like, what you have to do is learn to drive with it to help eliminate the sound as best as possible. The 1 thing i did love was the sound it made when floored, when you WANT it to be loud. It has an awesome sound in the high RPM range. I would describe it as almost a deep indy car sound from the outside of the vehicle. from the inside, its much deeper. As for performance upgrade? kinda but nothing too impressive

Overall with both mods...i feel my car is much stronger, and sounds alot better.

sorry for the long post =P

Nice! Definitely quality parts that you bought there... There is obviously no expected power increase, so that really doesnt matter. I like the Ti tips though, I wish I went that route. Good lookin 8, but where is your lid on top of the intake? You just took that off for the pics right? Im hoping...lol

So the nut stayed on the stud. I was in the same boat. PITA.
Like the installs. The only thing I didn't like was that the exhaust tip is screwed on.

I think that he bought it directly from Lazi though, used? or did he end up selling the exhaust with the car? who knows...

the parts were 100% brand new. the exhaust has about 40-50 miles on it so far.

total..i believe it was $873. although pricey. its a fair price.

looks nice! got any shots of the exhaust from underneath? wonder how much that exhaust ways? wonder how much louder mine is with no muffler? still can't see spending that much for no real power increase.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ1ZgIGeE_c&feature=related

do you get the pops during decel like that?

ivory8
11-19-2007, 10:21 PM
yep it does sound just like that. and yes it does pop when u let go of the gas at around 6k rpm.

im thinking that the pop is some kind of ignition of the exhaust??? maybe if i rev it up enough in pure darkness id see some flames??? i still have the cat on so maybe flames are impossible?

WRXtoRX8

cool sounds almost like my open exhaust does. yeah figure the pop is the unspent gas in the cat or something. I doubt with the stock cat you will get the flame, but you might try it at night and see :)

Good combo... Is a mid-pipe in your future?..

ivory8
11-20-2007, 04:40 PM
eh i dont think ill be getting a midpipe any time soon. sound and emissions are the problem, its as loud as i could ever want it now. any louder and id be unhappy

never say that, you could be wrong in a few months...lol. the pop is backpressure btw

ivory8
11-20-2007, 05:46 PM
because the pop is backpressure...does that mean that the new exhaust i bought has more backpressure than the stock exhaust, because the stock intake didn't make that pop.
