after 3 and half years of driving my 2004, I may have just experienced my first engine flooding. I couldn't start my car. My last drive before that was starting the car to move the car from the drive way in to the garage. I have done this many many times in the past, so I didn't even think twice before doing it. Anyhow, I got the car towed to the dealer to have it looked at. So, if it is flooded, does the warranty cover the cost? Just wondering ...

I am within the 4 years and 50K.

then YES, it should be covered under warranty. Call Mazda Roadside Assitance @ 800-866-1998, have them dispatch a flat bed tow truck, take it to the dealership, and have them unfloord.

OR

You can use the DIY on the Tech section to do it yourself. If you've never had the starter / battery TSB recall done, then I might opt for the longer route of having your car taken in.

Not actually a recall. Just a TSB, which Jedi has pointed to. You would normally not hear about it unless you had the problem and the dealer diagnosed it correctly.

Cool! Thanks. Just talked to my dealer. He said everything is taken care of by warranty, but he said I would have to pay like pro-rated $20 bucks for the battery. My car is at 47K and 4 years and 9 months, so I guess I was close.

However, he said that my front brake pads are almost worn out and I have to replace. He also said that he will replace the rotors under the warranty so he recommended that I do it. Does that sound right? Thanks, again.

My dealer is Rosenthal at Tysons corner. They guy I go see there is pretty good. I've had bad ones at the same dealer, but so far so good with this guy.

$240 or $260 for the brake job. Is that a lot? I know meineke or midas do for a lot less, but I am not sure about that.

Can't say I've ever heard it, but it sounds reasonable. Expecting a brand new battery at no charge when the original has 47k on it is asking alot. It sounds like they're being pretty good about it.

Dealership prices are always higher, but that's not too bad for brakes.

brake jobs have one of the highest mark ups of any service you can do to your car.
Are you mechanically inclined? You could always do it yourself in about an hour if you want. (getting the rotors turned would require some work though)
If you're getting a free pair of rotors out of it, might not be too bad to just have them do it.

Sounds fair enough to me. Dealer work on the brakes isn't cheap, but IMHO getting free new rotors makes it a good deal. Battery deal is also good...you'll be starting with a better battery and a fresh warranty.

Good to hear Rosenthal is treating you well. That's where I bought my 8, and I've been very pleased with how they treat me on service. I've been seeing Rob of the Purple Team, and he's really great.

Well, the work is completed and the rotors seem new. Nice and thick. But can't be sure because I never really paid closer attention to my rotors.
