View Full Version : Forums to move to new hardware in the near future
IB Admin 11-05-2007, 02:21 PM You might have noticed a few issues with the forums lately (database errors, timeouts, etc.) These are due to problems we've had with the servers that run the forums. We've been at work acquiring new hardware to run the forums, and we are just about ready to move them.
Tuesday, November 6, at 10:30AM, we will transfer the database & files to the new hardware. Because of the size of the database, it will take several hours to complete the transfer, and the forums will be unavailable during this time. The downtime is scheduled to last until 4PM the same day, although it will probably not take quite that long.

nycgps 11-05-2007, 05:51 PM Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron ?
I use nothing but AMD Opteron for my servers, Cuz of its hypertransport bus. Intel still gotta share everything with FSB. Maybe you guys should consider getting a AMD Opteron, web server needs more memory bandwidth. AMD is your friend.
I dont care what morons out there say, AMD never failed me, and the dude who owns the rack next to mine, always wonder why the server that I managed never had any problems. He had like 14 Xeno dead the last 3 years. in all kinds of cores. Im still using the same Opteron rack 3 years ago, never had a single failure.
My home use nothing but AMD as well, my personal comp has Dual AMD FX-70, and 2 GB ram (Shame, going to 8 gb soon) and raptor in raid 0.

tajabaho1 11-06-2007, 10:04 PM noticeable improvement, did you decide to turbocharge (very fast forum, periodic breakdown) Supercharge (faster page load, significantly improved posting, not so much breakdown) or Nitrous (uber fast, but is down once a week for maintainance) ?
chetrickerman 11-07-2007, 08:11 AM haha, thats funny
alnielsen 11-07-2007, 08:32 AM If I ping rx8club.com I get an address of 67.201.16.97. When I enter that into the browser, RX7Club comes up. Does anyone have the new direct link to RX8Club?

Does anyone have the new direct link to RX8Club?The servers we are using host RX7Club, RX8Club, and Mazda3Club. When you go to one of those sites by name, your browser actually says to the web server, "Gimme RX8Club.com," and the web server figures out where to go from there. If you browse directly to the IP, the browser won't be sending a site name and the web server will just give it the first one in the list (in this case RX7Club.)
