Question Acquired a turbo but is it Suitable???

As title stated found this turbo(Don't ask don't tell) and was wondering if it would be suitable for the renny?

I have reason to believe that this was originally for a diesel engine:Idunno: anyway

It's a Garret turbo
The compreesor reads A/R.60 AiResearch T04

The turbines inlet measures 1.15 and outlet's ID is 2.55 in...
hope this helps

Here are some pics

TIA for all the info!!!

Get a flow map.

Some better experts may know of the top of their head, but I would go get a flow map and see how it breaths. For my Turbo land Cruiser - the one I had laying around if for a diesel boat and it breaths in a very narrow part of the power band - but I don't really care for my purposes; for an RX8 you need one with a wide CFM efficiency range.

I am calling BS; simply because I found a map (granted in Swedish) if a Triple K Volvo Penta turbo... it just took me a long time..... maybe try some more?

If not; I would slap it on a beater! For the Renny boosting at 10 lb/min of air or less all the way to 40-50 lb/min is the ideal; and not many turbo's do that.

Just of the top of my head, the size look OK. .60 AR on the compressor is what I'll be doing on my new system, when I get to it. (Damn, becoming a free man sure does offer a lot of distractions) What AR is the turbine?

Oh, should say on the turbine does it not?
Loks like in the .80 ish, by the size of it relative to the compressor.

What's the size of the compressor wheel, and the turbine wheel for that matter?

The compressor wheel is roughly 2.13 in and the turbine wheel is 2.52in

No A/R listed on the turbine

OK, so it's exactly the same sized turbo as what I am thinking of using. My turbine housing looks much bigger though.
So it won't give you a real quick spool. But on the other hand the turbo will be very unrestrictive. It all depends on what you goals are.

It would work, but it's not going to be exactly "peppy", but you will be able to make some decent power with it.

Not sure about your manufacturer specifically, but you can easily find a T04B turbo generic maps. Just Google it.

but yeah I still have alot more reading and research to do in the process right now of trying to source someone to machine me a turbo mani with slot for external wastegate...

Any ideas on what would be the ideal placement for this turbo in the engine bay?

Have you been over to the Esmeril Turbo Thread? That looks to be the easiest to fabricate for besides the Greddy and like sized ones.

^^^ Yup and I have even pm'd chris about fabbing up a custom mani for my needs just awaiting a reply..and this project will be go...My only concern with the placement of their turbo is it being right next to the PCM...

whether I'll be using a interceptor or stand alone has yet to be determined though...

I can make it strong - just not pretty (nature of underwater welding training).

We only had scrap pipe to use to we had to improvise - plus our rules are no money and no measuring LOL

Ok, I will stop hijacking.
