There was an SCCA RallyX today, no I didn't run, but it was good to come out and see some familiar locals. It's held just South of Las Vegas on a dry lake bed.
Yes, the lake beds are awesome a few days after rain, and you can usually do top speed runs no problem at all!
Well, it was a bit choppy, so I just did some mad donuts.
Here's an idea of a short shot of the lake bed when the rally did their parade lap (like walking an autox course)

Hope you have a new air filter handy. Hey ....what tires are you running....those dont look stock. I like the tread pattern.
syntrix 10-19-2003, 01:12 AM Falken FK451's

Decent street tire for the track, but they heat up pretty fast and become a bit slick, just all falken tires.
I'm doing some research as a few new tires are just hitting the market, trying to find something better.
Why can't they make the yoko intermediates anymore, that was a sweet tire!
Congrats on having the world's dirtiest 8... for now :)

CAR WASH TIME
RX-GR8 10-20-2003, 08:21 PM i could never do that to my 8. :)
VelocityRedRX8 10-20-2003, 08:35 PM Wow, now that is dirty (and here I thought this was an 'adult' post. :) ). Looks like you'll need a really thorough wash to get all that salt out of the nooks and crannys (sic).
syntrix 10-20-2003, 08:37 PM no salt, just fine powdered desert dust ;)
Been there in my wrx before, you can get there right off the main roads.
She cleaned up just fine, but I think I ate a few lbs of airborne dust.
RallyX was cool!
ws_rx8 10-20-2003, 09:00 PM post some before and after pictures

Yours is almost as dirty now?
rotarynews.com 10-23-2003, 10:43 PM Holy Crap Lee! You told me it was dirty... but wow.
I took my FD out the the lake bed last year, and it looked the same... I'm still finding that dust in places.
syntrix 10-23-2003, 10:59 PM Yeah, you gotta break a car in with at least one trip to the many lake beds out here.
After a good rain and when it firms up again, I'm going back to play.
She's clean, but there's still some hidden dirty areas ;)
RX-Nut 10-24-2003, 05:02 PM daang.. isnt that hell on the car? I mean engine and such? not to mention a washing nightmare.
syntrix 10-27-2003, 10:15 AM It just increases your service interval.
Car is just peachy clean now.
After a run like that, take out your filter and clean it with compressed air. Done.
BTW, the roads out there are all very smooth, so not much except for a few tiny kicked up rocks.
Now if I were doing some crazy donuts all day long, then I might have some issues ;)
mikeb 10-27-2003, 08:32 PM my car looks like that after all these fires in CA
syntrix 10-27-2003, 08:57 PM Ugh, that sucks! One guy at work has family x2 that are close to the fires close to SD.
