While I really like the auto-dimming mirror, i've found that i'm not being protected all the time. There are times when I've got very bright headlights behind me and the mirror does not dim them. I started paying attention and it looks like the majority of the time it's not dimming there's a shadow from the spoiler covering the sensor.

Anybody know how to either increase the sensitivity, increase the amount of dimming, or some other fix I can't think of right now. I've also got a gripe about headlights in other lanes, but it's not as bad.

If it's shaded by the spoiler, I don't imagine amount of sensitivty adjustment would help.

I personally don't like spoilers, especially on the 8s.

while the auto-dimming is a cool feature, i wouldn't mind if i could just turn it on max dim all the time and be done with it. if i can't do that, then much greater sensitivity might be just as good. especially if it were possible to extend the dwell time.

please don't post and tell me to remove the damn spoiler. i wasn't sure about it, i've debated the theoretical value or lack there of, and after all that, it's on there and i'm not going to remove it and leave 4 holes in my trunk lid.

besides, my wife likes it and my car looks different than 99% of them out there right now and i kind of like that.

maybe you can adjust the mirror so that it sits higher...I seem to recall that the mirror was on 2 pivots, so you can push the mirror higher so that the sensor can be hit more directly, try that, it might help.

I have the spoiler as well and have the mirror jammed as high as it will go. I haven't noticed the mirror not dimming when I needed it. Seems to work PERFECT for me. Give it a try.

The spoiler looks great on this car. When I see one without it something just doesn't look right...to me.

i actually had not noticed that it's on a double pivot. i'll take a look at it tomorrow. i sit pretty tall so that would help with the forward vis as well.

thanks,

I too had that issue with the spoiler "shadow"... I adjusted the mirror up all the way last week, and I haven't noticed the issue since. In fact, now I get the shadow blocking the headlights from hitting my eyes and the mirror dimming at the same time. Nice :)

well, that should go in the FAQ!

i can't believe i didn't notice it. i've just been so used to having the rear view mirror right at eye level (causes a huge forward blind spot) that i didn't even think to look.

rgonzal3 you just increased my happiness with my 8 a WHOLE bunch! thanks! now i can see way better forward, and get better dimming out the back!
