For a NE to SW US trip, got any suggestions about scenic routes to take along the way? e.g. coastal highways?

If you're planning a winter trip, get south as quick as possible then come across on route 10 or 20. For summer trip, across the north US then down is nice. Do you have nav in ur '8? and how much time are you alloting for the trip. You can have it plan quickest route or scenic route by using/avoiding hiways. I took 3 weeks once in the fall coming from San Diego, to Orlando, up to Atlanta to see my brother then on up to Newport RI. It was wonderful with lots of side trips, but if you don't have that much time you'll have to go more direct. Saw grand canyon, outer banks, disneyworld, and lotsa other cool stuff on the way. Magnesium 10-18-2003, 10:49 PM I am actually departing on NW to SE trip in the morning. Gonna cruise across WA up through Spokane, then crosss over through Montana, South Dakota, then MN. Take a sharp turn south and end up in Mississippi for a few days. Not sure of my return trip route at this time. I am thinking maybe across AR, OK, TX, NM, AZ, NV, CA, then OR. When all said and done, close to 6000 miles in the next 2.5 weeks. I will let you know how she holds up. starbucks 10-18-2003, 10:52 PM Originally posted by Magnesium I am actually departing on NW to SE trip in the morning. You don't mention your endpoints. If you're very, very NE then Maine and New Hampshire are great. If it was me I'd start heading west before Massachusets(sp?). Busy, and in my experience Boston drivers are the rudest I've seen. The Pacific Coast Highway is very nice anywhere north of Santa Barbara. Get a copy of "Blue Highways" Magnesium 10-28-2003, 08:57 AM Half way through my trip now. Be expecting to stop alot for gas, and I do mean ALOT! My average gas mileage doing about 9 mph over speed limit was around 21 or so. Lowest was 18.5 and highest was 23.7. Best mileage was achieved going through Idaho when speed limits were at 55 and 65. Oil consumption was about 3/4 of a quart for 3100 miles. Nothing else to report of good or bad nature. I guess you could say that is good news. |
