Just curious to see what the highest gear is that you have hit the limiter with.
Personally, I have hit it with 1st, 2nd and 3rd so far.

View Full Version : Which gears have you hit the red line with? Driver8 10-18-2003, 08:51 PM Just curious to see what the highest gear is that you have hit the limiter with. It was violent enuf in 2nd, what does it feel like in the higher gears? Driver8 10-18-2003, 09:51 PM Would it be possible to hit the limiter in reverse? I think its cool that the digital speedometer reports speed in reverse unlike analog speedometers. Anyone willing to try? JSG 10-19-2003, 02:09 AM There was a thread on the s2k website about hitting the limiter in reverse - it sounds very scary! Rear wheel steering! lefuton 10-19-2003, 02:41 AM dammit, this forum doesn't have a bs flag. though, i guess technically i could hit redline in 6th too if my car was on jackstands. eccles 10-19-2003, 06:01 PM Originally posted by lefuton dammit, this forum doesn't have a bs flag.Yeah, redline in 6th would be somewhere around 180mph. We have at least two respondents who are severely delusional. lefuton 10-19-2003, 10:03 PM heh 3 now =p i guess the other possibility would be drafting behind a gas turbine peterbuilt on the bonneville salt flats...who knows, may be able to redline in 6th there too Texagi95 10-19-2003, 10:05 PM I believe those who hit 6th gear rev. limiter, must of had the clutch in................ sferrett 10-20-2003, 01:36 AM Originally posted by 8_wannabe ok, who the heck hit redline in 6th? And how about fuel cutout? It was violent enuf in 2nd, what does it feel like in the higher gears? I bounced off the rev-limiter the other day in 2nd and I was actually surprised by how un-harsh it was. I definately noticed it since I stopped going faster, but it wasn't a super harsh cutoff. I hit rev-cut in my jeep once in second gear (somewhere around 5500 or so - 4.0L inline 6) and it felt like I ran into a brick wall. I've also hit the fuel cut in the FD and it's also very abrupt, although that was in first gear so I would expect it to be harsher. Simon. Reeko 10-20-2003, 11:20 AM I hit Redline in 4th. Pretty cool cause redline in 4th is slightly over 100MPH. Too bad I needed to slow down for a turn. (No good roads to go real fast around here, they all have cops on them. So I go fast on the back country roads, more fun anyway). Jhouse 10-20-2003, 11:36 AM 1-3rd hear. i just turned over 1k miles this weekend. we have plenty of long perfect straights here to open the car all the way even in 6th so i am looking forward to it. P.S. damn that 6th gear 150 mph gov. its going to piss off a lot of people. eccles 10-20-2003, 12:02 PM Quite apart from the limiter, I believe that the gearing in 6th is too tall for maximum speed - you can actually eke out more top end in 5th. zoom44 10-22-2003, 11:50 AM count me in 3rd gear as i did this mornign on my way to work. had to wait for this 5 series to move over a lane and then i had a nice clear road:D i wasn't watching the speedo closely just the road and waiting for the chime but i think it's about 88mph? hehe still 3 gears left!!!!!;) matt 10-22-2003, 12:47 PM Originally posted by lefuton dammit, this forum doesn't have a bs flag. though, i guess technically i could hit redline in 6th too if my car was on jackstands. |
