God I missed this Forum!!!

So, I had a interesting time during the down time.

I had already posted this part... One dealer said:
"their allocation order was in March. They would call me in March and would NOT take a down payment for MSRP guaranty because it was not their policy to charge over MSRP."

I then got this from another dealer:
"I will begin ordering next month (Dec.) for the first 8 to arrive in March or April- really no time away. I'll be happy to accept your deposit, I don't think there's any question that demand will exceed supply- it's already starting. You will be the first though with "cash on the barrell head", and thusly will have the first shot at the ordered 8 of your choosing~ very nice!

A deposit of $500 via check or credit card will secure your purchase of the RX-8 for only $1,000 over MSRP, through our Internet Department. This will certainly show itself to be a strong opportunity."

So, I went back to the first dealer and told him the other dealer was taking deposits and left out he information about the $1000 over MSRP ;)

The first dealer has now taken a $500 deposit from me and put in writting that I will not pay over MSRP and I will get to pick from the first cars they get if they cannot get exactly what I want. If I do not like anything, I will wait until there next shipment.

The Mazda show room has been so dead everytime I go in, I do not think this guys have clue what is going to hit them when the RX-8 media frenzie happens. Most were not around when the Miata craziness happened.

So, this is all the information I have.... I plan to go to the first dealer today and ask about the time frames of orders and cars the second (more aggressive) dealer stated.

Later,

The dealer I put a deposit with doesn't know when he's getting the cars, and I rather like that fact.

My general idea that I already know is that the cars are going to be out in the summer. However, when dealers say they know when the car is coming out, and the details they are not supposed to know, they are full of it. I'd avoid them like the plague.

Yea,

This guy was to agressive and the dates were totally out of wack with what I heard on this forum and from the other dealer.

I really wanted to post this on the forum and get feeback, but it was down :(

I am very glad the conservative dealer finally agreed to my deposit and MSRP in writting:D

Stopped at a local dealership last week, because I saw they had the 6 (in fact, they had 20 of them). I talked to the salesman for over an hour about rotaries, and said I was interested in putting down a deposit if I could get a guarantee of MSRP or less. He said there was no way the manager would go for that - if demand exceeded supply, they would go through their list to offer first refusal at whatever price they set. I got on the list (about 8 ahead of me), but was disappointed not to get a guarantee. This was supposedly south texas' largest dealer, BTW. Anyway, the guy said they were only expecting 3 6's, and they got two truckloads of them. If the same thing happens with the 8, he didn't think there'd be a problem getting one at MSRP. I still worry - the 7 is giving me some troubles and I'm afraid it won't last until the feeding frenzy on the 8 is over.

I emailed three dealer in my area and proposed a deposit.

I got three different answers. When I showed the dealer that would not take by deposit for MSRP that another dealer would, he caved...

The truth is that we know more than almost everyone at the dealership and they do not what to sign up for something they now very little about...

Just my opinion.
