View Full Version : Cool car
kooldude 10-18-2003, 06:00 PM Hey, i saw the RX8 today at Mazda, way cool. Did anyone notice between the two doors is missing that bar that goes up and down between them, like the 2 doors both open and there's this big empty space? Awesome! is there anything else kool about the car i should no about?
RussellP 10-18-2003, 06:14 PM no pistons in the engine
zoom44 10-18-2003, 06:20 PM 9k redline in the hi-power. headlights that shine on the whole road from off the shoulder on the left to off the shoulder to the right. you can take any curve well over the speed limit. not that i suggest speeding is a good thing-obey your local traffic laws!

ummm.. yeah... he's serious... no pistons...
zoom44 10-18-2003, 06:26 PM i'm not sure if you didn't believe him or if you meant that you knew it was a rotary engine. 'cause you see rotaries don't have pistons that go up and down. they have rotors that go round and round read this link to learn more (http://www.rotaryengineillustrated.com/) :)

I think kooldude is pulling our legs
8_wannabe 10-18-2003, 07:14 PM That, or he's just a little slow.
RussellP 10-18-2003, 07:21 PM most people who see this car and havent done any research wont know its a rotary engine.
B-Nez 10-18-2003, 08:33 PM While sitting at grid during AutoX today, I talked briefly with a fella who had never heard of a rotary (bit knew what an RX-7 was) before, and was pretty dumbfounded.
most people dont even know how an internal combustion engine works, let alone a rotary.
j1mb0x99 10-21-2003, 10:06 AM About exactly a year ago I had no idea the rotary existed let alone what it was. Now I can say I've been enlightened with all the wonders or the wankel.

graphicguy 10-21-2003, 10:25 AM Don't laugh...when I called my insurance agent to tell him to add the RX8 to my policy the conversation went something like this:
Insrance Agent (IA): So, graphic, what did you buy?
me: A Mazda RX8
IA: Never heard of it...what's the safety equipment?
me: Dual front airbags, side aribags and side air curtains, ABS, DSC
IA: 2-door coupe or 4 door sedan?
me: actually neither...it's a 4-door coupe
IA: Impossible!
me: no, really...it's a 4-door coupe
IA: OK, whatever you say, but it can't be a coupe if it has 4-doors?
me: yes, it is a coupe and, yes it does have 4-doors.
IA: Whatever.....4 cyl, 6cyl or V8 and how many HP does it have?
me: no cylinders....it's a rotary...don't really know how many HP it has
IA: Yeah, but how many cylinders does it have? How many HP does the MSRP sticker say it has?
me: None, it has two rotors. The MSRP sticker says it has 247HP but it's wrong.
IA: So it's a 2 cylinder? And you say the sticker is wrong about the HP?
me: no, 2 rotors and yes, the sticker states the wrong HP according to Mazda
IA: so, is it one of those electric cars or a hybrid car?
me: no, it runs on gasoline only
IA: (being sarcastic) does it fly, too (chuckle)? I can't give you a quote unless I know the HP rating.
me: (being sarcastic) and I'm sending you money to insure me? You can go ask Mazda but I'd use 238HP for the insurance quote.
Chuck Clifford 10-21-2003, 10:53 AM Mr. Wankel was sent here many years ago from another solar system to inpart on us a little device that people on his planet thought might get our planets creative juices flowing again. They had been monitoring us and saw that we had become quite passive and predictable. This device reasserted that anything is possible if you are willing to think outside the box. Hence, the design revolution over the last half of the last century. Throughout time they have dropped us little hints to remotivate our minds. A few letters scribbled on a paper to Einstein. A couple ideas in a dream to Jules Verne. Rumor has it that magic carpets in ancient times were, you guessed it, rotary powered.
Throw away your cubic inches, your litres, your horse power, and your torque readings. This rotary engine is magic, pure and simple.
Did Ciderella ask the fairy how she did what she did. Hell no, She went to the ball and had a great time.
Those who have a Rotary powered cars for the most part are enjoying them, those who don't have one, can't understand what all the hoopla is about. They question everything as if that will detract from the one prevailing fact, this car is a blast for more reasons than we can properly relate. But then again, we're living it, convincing or relating our enjoyment to others is not on the top of our list of things to do.
Its real kool and fun. Believe it or not. Your not altering or detracting from my perception whether you do or not.
