God that road is actually dangerous as all hell. Small little one lane road with no divider but still a 2 way street. Lots of blind corners and sometimes hard to see ahead. Lucky for me i did it at about dawn so the traffic was slim to none. Was fun as hell tho got to get ready for speed trials in december.

Has anyone else done this road before then gone down the switchbacks down to glendora again? the switchbacks were fun but after all the turns you can get a little queesy. I like the fact that there is a double yellow tho to separate oncomming traffic. I could just be a wuss tho too lol.

Our car handles the turns so well its just sickining. I was handling the switchbacks almost effortlessly. I was doing when i could see ahead enough at speeds ranging from 39 to 50 some miles an hour and was still in full control easily.

I slowed down after a good hour or so and i just appreciated the scenery and the occasional sport bikes as they hugged the curves in groups of 6 or so.

We all did so well on our purchases god id never take anything else save the new lotus (Beautiful!).

Anyone else know any other roads for a good cruise that are fairly empty and have dividing lines for oncomming traffic?

Yeah.

Skyline drive / blueridge parkway. It goes on for days!

http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/

Southern end starts at the Smokie Mountains National Park entrance on the NC side. Blueridge Parkway I think goes to I-64 in Virginia, then Skyline Drive goes further north.

Fantastic twisties, unfettered by truck traffic! No trucks & no bad road surfaces as a result! Scenery is simply beautiful. Especially this time of year!!!

Glendora Ridge is a blast. It is pretty out of the way so traffic is usually pretty light. I took a passenger and ran it East to West so I was on the outside. I had the passenger watch out for traffic several turns ahead while I concentrated on the one we were on. Did the whole run in 2nd gear, don't think I shifted once. I took most of the turns at 35 to 40 mph which doesn't sound that fast but the turns are VERY tight. The turns are right on top of each other so there is no real time to build up any speed. By the time we got to the road down to Glendora we were both a little green LOL. I was very mellow driving down to Glendora as the police were out in force. (Saw 4 cops, 2 of them writing tickets)

I found an interesting one...

http://www.gadzikowski.com/worlorn/openroad.html

You talking about that one? :D

If not... could you lead me to it somehow? "The dragon" is awfully vague for doing a web search, as you might imagine...

edit: OK, never mind, I think. I'm finding things about it now...

"If you don't know what it is, it is on the 11 mile stretch known as The Dragon. It is supposedly the curviest road in the US per length with 318 curves. The road is a true test of you and your car's driving abilities."

And another website...

"The tree is decorated, if you could call it that, with broken pieces of motorcycle fairings: A burgundy ZX-11 tailpiece. A jagged red-and-white CBR600 side panel. A shattered blue GSX-R lower.

The sign above the adornments identifies it all as “Dragon Trash.”

Growing in a motel parking lot a few miles northwest of Tapoco, North Carolina, the trash tree is a not-so-subtle warning to those who ride U.S. 129.

Threading through Deals Gap on the mountainous North Carolina-Tennessee border, Route 129 has a reputation as the best asphalt thrill ride in the East. More than 300 curves in 11 miles. At least, that’s what they claim. That’s why they call it the Dragon. "

Haven't found a map yet, but I think I will now... Thanks!

edit again: Found a map...

The drive up Palomar Mountain (Near Escondido, CA) on the south grade is about as good as it gets.

I see the mapquest.com link was dynamic and doesn't show the correct place anymore. Here's a screenie. If memory serves, it is about 4500-5000 ft elevation gain from the bottom of south grade. Between that and the switcbacks it's a blast. The observatory is cool too, and some campgrounds and trails.

I'd have to second that one - the blast up and down palomar is quite a fun one indeed. Sunrise highway is also good but there can be a lot of bike/hike traffic which you must be careful for.
