i hate the Bankees too but it looks like they bought another championship.

I hate the yankees. I wish the red sox would have won last night...broke my heart to see pedro give up the lead. He's awesome, but man he should have stepped down. Argh. I'm going for the marlins just because the yankees beat the red sox.

the sox manager blew it. he had 2 relievers waiting to come in who had given up something like 1 earned run in 23 innings.

Darn......I am in Chicago area......downer about the Cubbies. Well, certainly don't want the Marlins.....anyone else is fine! Go Yanks I guess.

Living In the Miami area, we are all "shocked" and delirious with the events the last few weeks.. I LOVE it !!! I have been able to go to a few of the playoff games at Pro Player and it is amazing the unity this team has.. Every game someone comes through.. I love that we are playing the "evil empire". It is the have, vs the have nots. I went to graduate school at NYU so I am aware of the Yankee mystique. To that i say "these marlins will not be intimidated, and will somehow find a way to win" Those young guys are amazing!! So. my vote :::::: GO MARLINS in 7. (pray)

I'm rooting for the Marlins by default I guess (even though the Yanks will probably sweep them :().

TO Cueball 1029 :::::::::::::: I really think the Yankee fans can keep their "brooms" at home.. I don't know if the marlins will win. ( I HOPE SO) but I do not think it will be a sweep....

The Marlins are a good team and I hope they can avoid a sweep or even manage a win, but I am just very pesimistic about everything now that the soxs are out.

I think the whole world wanted the Cubs/Red Sox...

Marlins, not that I like either of them, but simply because they are the clear underdog, and their payroll is so much less.

I'm a huge Orioles fan, so I am obligated to hate the Yankees. The fact that they spend such extreme amounts to get their way and squeeze out the competition just seals the deal for me...

Having been a diehard Sox fan since the days of Yaz (and a Bostonian for 20+ years), last night was a bummer. But as Royko has said about the Cubs, it wouldn't have been the Sox if they had won. They'll always break your heart. You can count on it.

I also heard an amusing remark a few days ago to the effect that if it had been a World Series between the Cubs and the Sox, it would have been the first Series in which no one won. There would be a plague of locusts or something that ended it before either team could be a winner.

Weird to say it, but I guess if have to go with the Yankees. On a higher level, I don't think I could ever root for the National League (althought I *definitely* would have rooted for the Cubs against the Yankees! So I'm a bit schizo about this one).

As a loyal Met fan, I must root for ANY team to beat the Yankees. The Yankees are the one of the biggest culprits for destroying baseball so that just amplifies my hatred.

free agency killed baseball then the Bank-ees dug the whole deeper.

Don't forget the huge tv deals with individual teams (should be with Major League Baseball like other sports).

The MLB really needs a salary cap if it doesn't want to go down the tubes.

as does the NFL and NBA. is it any wonder that teams 2 or 3-peat at will now in the NBA?

I think even if I didn't grow in Miami, I would still be rooting for the Marlins. They just play with so much heart, and they seem to be a likeable bunch of young guys.

IMHO, a a couple of great players can make a team win it all in basketball. To be a great baseball team, you need A LOT of great players. There have been some championship and near championship small market teams in the NBA in recent years (San Antonio, Utah, Sacromento, etc.).

Its really shame that a team like the Pittsburgh Pirates will likely never go to a World Series in the current baseball environment. If in the rare chance they were highly competitive, they'd likely lose their top players (who would likely be young) when they first reached free agency.

thats exactly what happened to the marlins back in 97. they won the series and the next year lost alot of their players and had a bad record.

to put things in perspective, in the NBA no team had 2 peated since 1968 until the 1987 lakers. since then EVERY team has at least 2 peated except the spurs although even they have won 2 championships albeit not consecutively.

That's a can of worms you opened there. Some can say the trend towards individual players (i.e. one on one match-ups) or more teams (i.e. dilution of talent and the few talented players dominate more) has led to that trend. But there are probobly so many factors that its fruitless to explore them all.

Its funny because that Marlin team was loaded with free agents they just acquired and they dumped them as soon as they won.

I will change my sig to "marlins are chumps" with a shot of that goofy a** pitcher if they don't win at least one game. BTW, my dealer says the car comes mid-nov.....but mazda says end of NOV....I know I should walk, but I've heard it said that patience is rewarded. And yes, I could get my reward 100 miles away TODAY, but I choose to wait for the "ordered" car.

i'll side with the marlins, but i pretty much won't be following the Series as closely as I did with the LCS's.
