So we're leaving for work this morning and as I walk to the car I see my wife place a stack of stuff in a plastic bag on the hood. So I casualy ask her not to put things on the hood since it might leave a scratch on the car...and she gets all defensive on me saying how I'm too careful with the car! At least she didn't say I love the car more than her (which isn't true). Anyway thought I'd vent here...

I'm not a psychiatrist or anything, but I see her response as an indicator of some other underlying problem. I won't meddle too deeply in your affairs, just pointing out an observation. To see what I'm saying, ask yourself why she responded the way she did rather than the typical response of "Oh, sorry about that, I wasn't thinking"

You could also have explained to her that the hood is made of aluminum and will dent very easily.

My wife did a similar thing a few weeks back by placing her purse on the truck lid.

I very quickly removed it without saying a word, but she could tell by my actions it should not be done again.

Physcobabble aside, she just does not take care of her things the same as I do mine. That is quite evident when you compare the inside of her vehicle to mine.

This all reminds me of Tyler Durden's quote from the movie Fight Club: "The things you own, end up owning you." haha, I totally agree with that. I'm sure all of us RX8 owners can relate.

Thx rx8er but my wife is a total clean freak so it's a little differnt situation.

Actualy W_Blue's point is well taken. I'm still new at this marriage thang. Thanks for adding some perpective Blue. Part of the answer to why she reacted the way she did is she doesn't put that much value to cars in general. Part because she probably wanted me to help her carry the stuff that she had which she put on the hood (I was grabbing my coffee while she went out to the car). Part uh well that's private ;)

Still wish she didn't put stuff on the hood so as not to scratch the clear coat. Even if there was a minor scratch of such a nature she wouldn't notice. Most people wouldn't either unless you point it out to them. However I'd always see it when I wash the car. So in a way she has a point. Damn I sound like I've already been broken in. It's only been a month...

I feel like an a$$ when i tell people not to lean on the ride, but damn, i would feel more of an a$$ if i had to ask them for money to fix the scratch/dent that they might put on it...

My husband lets people EAT in my car (I don't let anything be consumed in it but water)- that's why he isn't allowed to drive it much. I let him take it up to DC and when he came back, my baby was full of paper scraps he had written directions and other stuff on. So it's not just wives, it's husbands too. Luckily, he accidently set a load of laundry on the trunk of his car and scratched it, so he's careful not to set anything on his or mine now.

How about husbands who open their car doors and put five, yes five small dinks on your car door in the garage!!! I was furious!! He said it's just a car! well, I made it clear(I hope) that he better be way more careful with the RX 8. He just feels cars are just things to get you from here to there.....boy, we disagree big time! I love cars and take pride in keeping mine in great condition! Ok......wonder if I will get my car next week. Due 3rd week of October.........Please come soon baby RX 8!!! Momma's waiting!;]

My wife knows I am anally-retentive when it comes to cars. She just does "NOT get it". What is so important to us, is a silly thing to her.. Dust on the dash, finger prints on the windows, everything in its place, etc...etc....etc :) Maybe I need to go to a marriage car councelor??? I grew up around cars, with my dad having a dealership.. I trade, and change cars frequently -- which also drives her nuts... Ohh well..hey..I don't smoke ..so my vices are good. right?

All of my wife's cars have ended up completely coated with makeup. You could find makeup crud EVERYWHERE - on the turn signal stalks, on the shift lever (auto, of course), all over the stero buttons. I make her wash her hands before getting into the RX-8 after putting on her makeup. The 1st time we went somewhere, I had cream fingerprints all over the passenger side.

My wife is pretty cool...she closes the door by pushing the door handle, and the trunk lid by pulling it down with the inner handle. If it doesn't close, she pushes the Mazda logo. :)

I have owned my RX-8 for 3 months now, and every Saturday morning it gets a hand wash.

This Saturday was no exception, even though it sat most of the week at the airport while I was in Houston on business. When I told her I was going out to wash the RX-8, she asked me if it was dirty?

She just does not understand....

my friends say that to me all the time
why are you washing it when it's not even dirty
and I say there is a reason it's not dirty

I keep cleaning it

Same here. I get that ALL the time! But, 8 coats of Zaino (just finished the 8th a few minutes ago) helps keep it clean between washes. NOTHING sticks to that stuff.

I always tell the people that "don't get it" that I appreciate the car's beauty and design. I see the car as a testament to engineering ingenuity. Just like people appreciate art, I appreciate my car. I wouldn't want to wipe my a$$ with the Mona Lisa, not because the materials (such as paint, fabric, etc) are expensive, but because it is a fine piece of art! If they still don't get it, they're just slobs =)

I have the greatest girlfriend.. she not only knows how much I love my car, everytime we go out and come back to the car, she often gives the car a quick inspection for anything unusual.

When she enter the car, she always inspects her shoes for any dirt/leaves/grass/etc...

She did get a little jealous of "the bitch" though... she's always been my onstar (as I call her)... but now she really likes "the bitch" becuase it has saved us alot of time a few times.

is she marriage material??
