Iv seen cars with lcd screens that display the cars performance such as egt, oil pressure, fuel consumption, etc.... all on the monitor in guage form. I assume that whatever device there using gets hardwired into the ecu harness and then transforms those signals into video.
So question is.. Is there a universal device that can do that or would it have to be specific to the rx8. Either way, whats this device called and where can it be purchased? Thanx in advance.

You're thinking of something like the scangage: www.scangage.com. Or, for a bigger display, an OBD scanner that plugs into a PDA or laptop. The only thing special (besides getting something with a display you like) is that the RX-8 has a CAN bus - which will soon be standard for all cars in the US.

It does not get hard wired: just plugs into the OBD port under the dash. If you search the forum for "scanner" you'll find threads with everyone's favorite.
