Hey all. I just wanted to share my story.

I was curious to see how the salesperson at the Nissan dealer near my house reacted to my 8. (nothing special btw, just the gt package). Anyways I was curious so I drove it in the lot, hee hee, got out and went right in to check the new 2004 Z convertible (nice car guys). I parked my 8 right infront of the glass so that EVERYONE was able to see it from the inside.

While I was admiring the Z, the salesman came up to me and asked " thinking of trading in ur 8?" Then I looked at him and asked " do you sell z's because you compare it to other sports cars? That's pretty sad pal."

His face just dropped, turned red, and walked away! Then a few minutes later another salesman approached me and asked how i was, asked me if i was looking for another sports car with different needs, ect....

So I got into a converstaion about the performance and styling, (not once did i do the mistake to compare with the 8, because i didn't go in there to compare). I told him I was just stopping in to check out the Z 'cause I liked it and thought about buying one maybe next year.

Anyways, as I was checking some engine parts, I caught his eye focused on my 8. In that moment I felt like bursting a smile from ear to ear. I felt so good about being an 8 owner. I know it's just a car, but that type of memories last forever!

I walked out after and thanked them for there time. As I got into my car they ALL TURNED and looked at the 8. As it backed up (ever so slowly), turned it's wheels,(ever so slowly, hee hee) and then took off into the night (again....ever so slowly!) AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

I love my 8! Cheers!

Nice story, a similar thing happened to me at Nissan dealer as well.

But the best was at Honda, I pull up and a salesman came running out "That's my DREAM car!" Then he goes back to his desk and comes back with the brochure and says "see here's proof I wasn't joking!"

He spent about 15 minutes looking at the car even though he was with another customer!

I was in asking about the S2k it was pretty funny.

The Nissan dealer that wouldn't even talk to me before let me test drive the Z when I drove up with the RX8.

Now that the 8 is gone, it's going to be hard to test drive anything :(

When I was comparing other cars to the '8, I stopped by the Infiniti dealer to eyeball the G35 Coupe 6-speed. The dealer had only one, and it was stuffed full of options and marked up to about $36,000. Plus, it was on the showroom floor and the salesman made it clear that I couldn't test-drive it. The guy was a classic blowhard salesman, redfaced and arrogant. I made the mistake of mentioning the '8, and it was clear to me he had no idea what I was talking about. Still, his knee-jerk response was to say, "Oh, the G35 would drive rings around it." I bit back my response, which would have included the recent Car & Driver comparo that had the '8 coming in ahead of the G35, and instead just replied meekly, damning with faint praise, "Yeah, it does have more torque." It shut him up.

The same thing happen to me! I too was told that I couldn't drive the G35 Coupe. That turned me off from Inifiniti's forever. How can you sell a car without letting people drive it? Who would buy a car without driving it first? I'm so glad I went with Mazda, within 5 minutes of being at the Mazda dealer, I was behind the wheel of my RX-8!

This happens all the time with motorcycles. When you go look at bikes at least for sport bikes they don't like you test riding them. That really sucks because bikes are so hit or miss.

you'll be surprised how much nissan/infiniti sales step on the 8 to sell their car.

while i was shopping for the 8, 350 and g35c, every single dealer of nissan and infiniti said, so you're trying to decide between these three cars eh? well the 8 is really bad, they are recalling all of them. Blah blah blah

didn't stop me from buying one tho :)

I shared my story already of the Nissan dealer when I went to drive an 350Z Touring and drove in with the 8 (during the buyback re-shop I did - keeping my 8) Four sales people looked at my car and even got in it!

No matter what any of them say, it is a great looking car. We ALL KNOW THAT.

I average 3 people a week that either come over while I'm fueling or yell over thru their window to ask me about the car. The gawkers aren't even possible to keep count of.

Well this is my 1st post, I just so happened to join when the server was moved and had a hard time getting registered. Anyway same thing happened to me, went by infinity, went by Nissan, went by Honda, before and after. Wouldn't let me drive the infinity, Nissan didn't think I could afford the Z so they blew me off. The S2k was just too small for my 6'4" body, yes 6 foot four and the 8 still is sooo comfy. Anyway, got the 8 went to see my friend at Honda, and every salesman was gawking and coming out to look at the 8. Not to mention when the police stopped me just to look at the car because "we've never seen one of those" Also since this is my 1st post and I've read most of the posts on these forums, I'll get this out of the way, 30 y/o, Nashville, TN/ 20 or so MPG AVG, gas is cheap here but they only have 87, 89, and 93, no 91, I use 93 because I am reminded everytime I take off the gas cap, "Premium Recommended", about $1.60 USD, Love my car, love my leather, black/black, like the red but I wanted my today, so I got it off the lot, actually they had to get mine out of Rivergate mall, it was on display, couldn't be happier, purchased 9/5/03 would like to get the rear spoiler, front air dam looks great, however in Nashville, every business has huge bumps coming off the street, I'm afraid it wouldn't clear.

i had a similar experience i went with a friend who is looking for a new car to Acura. the dealer was more interested in the 8 then selling a car to my friend.

The dealer said he was thinking between the RX-8 and the S2K, but after seeing the RX in person he cant compare to the S2K nemore.

My friend wanted to Test Drive the TL and TSX, his was not impressed by either, and ended up pre-ordering a 2004 IS300.

Funny thing. I hate to sound like an echo, but i did shop the 350 Z before buying my 8. I even test drove the the Roadster 350. I have to give the engine its due it was awesome. The only problem is it went all down hill from there. Of the 2 roadsters and 1 coupe i drove all had cracks in the bottom door sills sp? and numerous fit and finish defects. Not to mention the suspension beat you to death on Louisiana roads. " What? did you say something I cant hear you over the road noise!"--by the saleswoman.

And after all that i thought I'd see if they would deal much on the price of the roadster. Not one penny of the list. I did my best "you gotta be nuts" look and walked out. Bought my * the next day. Few days later the dealership calls and says they might be willing to deal "a liiiiiiitle bit" Please . I think i should drive by in my 8 to give them my answer!
