View Full Version : Just finished Portal eug 10-15-2007, 11:57 PM I haven't had a game make me laugh that hard in a long time. It was awesome. Now I need more... ½mv² 10-16-2007, 07:33 AM I think I've beaten it about 3 times over already. The puzzles are awesome, and the script is hysterical. "Remember - Bring your daughter to work day is a good time to have her tested." toxin440 10-16-2007, 07:39 AM yeah portal was awesome, it only took me about 3 hours to beat it all... im aching for more puzzles now! Finished all the challenges except for the bronze silver and gold ones. they are HARD! Awesome game! FastRX8 10-17-2007, 01:00 PM I haven't had a game make me laugh that hard in a long time. It was awesome. Now I need more...I haven't played the xbox version yet, but there is a simple flash version. There are 40 levels. I just finished it. http://www.armorgames.com/games/portaltheflashversion_game.html I'm really curious about the xbox version now, I'm sure it a 1000x's better. Socket7 10-17-2007, 01:51 PM I've got the cupcake, I've yet to get the fruitcake. or the super vanilla cake. eug 10-17-2007, 02:07 PM the cake is a lie! c0ldf1ame 10-17-2007, 03:14 PM i laughed when the turrets said "i dont hate you" ½mv² 10-17-2007, 05:21 PM I actually said "awwwww" when I used one turret as cover from another turret's fire and it screamed "Ouch! Hey - Stop shooting! It's me!!" Those things are by far the most adorable enemy in any game I've ever played. I got the Super Vanilla Cake or whatever it's called within an hour of beating the game lol. I couldn't stop playing and welcomed the more difficult levels :) As for the advanced challenges, I got golds on all the timed ones - another challenge that I gladly welcomed - but the limited portal and limited step puzzles are no longer fun after the Bronze level. First of all, their step counting system is fucking retarded and robs the game of it's fun by replacing the need for skill with the need for luck. You can do the puzzle the same way 9 or 10 times and add or subtract as many as 10 "steps". The limited portal ones are fun up to the silver levels, but for gold medals you have to spend 45 minutes knocking energy balls around with the metal boxes until you get lucky enough to have one ricochet into a holder. Once again, I find no entertainment in a "test your skills" challenge that's 75% chance and 10% luck! Frynge 10-18-2007, 10:42 AM the enrichment center would like to remind you that the weighted partner cube will not threaten to stab you, and in fact, cannot speak. ^_^ ...I think I have a crush on GLaDOS. maybe it's because she's got the whole insane scientist type AI thing going on. XD eug 10-18-2007, 05:38 PM It would be cool if they worked in the Portal events and characters into episode 3. I'm sure Freeman could come up with all sorts of uses for the portal gun. Luftwaffle 10-18-2007, 05:52 PM This was a triumph. Socket7 10-18-2007, 06:48 PM I'm making a note here. HUGE SUCCESS! mgh 10-18-2007, 10:54 PM We do what we must because we can. Remember that time when you were about to go into the fire pit and I said "Goodbye" and you were like "No way!" and then I was all "we pretended we were going to murder you". Wasn't that great? I'm telling everyone I know to play this game. I'm debating buying it on a new steam account and passing out the account info to all my friends. ½mv² 10-22-2007, 08:14 AM I'm looking forward to people creating mods for portal. I would love to watch a pile of dead combine ragdolls get flung around :D VASasha 10-22-2007, 10:46 AM I just beat the flash version at work. Fun puzzle/arcade game the style of which I haven't seen in a while. Frynge 10-23-2007, 10:57 AM Aperture Science WILL be playing a role in episode 3, but we're not entirely sure to what extent. Gordon will be investigating a ship they lost, the Borealis, in a portal testing accident. (shade of the philadelphia experiment?) ½mv² 10-23-2007, 02:56 PM Is anyone here familiar with C++ and/or the Valve world editor? I'd like to try to put the Portal libraries in with the standard Source SDK and see if I could get the ASHPD to work on Worldcraft/Hammer entities that aren't strictly ENT_PHYS objects. I definately have the know-how, I just don't have the patience to tackle every last obstacle along the way completely on my own (and fuck the teenage dickwads in the steam community). Anyone here wanna give it a stab with me? ScudRunner 10-24-2007, 04:10 PM Picking it up soon myself. My new favorite game reviewer was also a big fan: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2541-Zero-Punctuation-The-Orange-Box FastRX8 04-11-2008, 02:51 PM Anyone who has Rockband, you can download the song Still Alive by GLaDOS for free. I played it at a friend's house, but they didn't understand why it was funny. They haven't played the game yet. Kari 04-11-2008, 03:13 PM ^ Will look for it! dshiznit1489 04-11-2008, 03:15 PM There is no cake. N rider89 04-11-2008, 03:20 PM http://members.arstechnica.com/x/asgard/the%20cake%20is%20a%20lie.jpg |
