Might want to adjust the lower bound - can legally drive at 17 here. Good luck finding someone to insure an RX-8 at that age though. :)

I hit 30 on Monday (13/10)! Ohhh my creaking bones...

50 and getting younger .

Growing old is mandatory , growing up is optional.

A man is only as old as the women he feels , and i am feeling young .

Youth is wasted on the young and money is wasted on the old.

Just being a littly nit-picky here, but you're polling owners' ages not "average age", unless you plan to do the math.

yea, my insurance company didn't know what the hell an RX8 was either... I think they looked at an 3rd gen RX7 (because the name sounded the same), then a Miata (because thats a sports car), and figured something between them :p

I pay $1800 for a full year, but I had 2 claims in the past 3 years and I got 2 moving violation tickets this year.

I have the high $100,000 / $300,000 / $50,000 coverage with $500 deductible from AAA.

AAA rates the RX-8 as a "sedan" :-)
Needless to say, I'm happy.

24 here, pay $1283 for 2 cars every 6mo.

RX8 is $851 of that (includes discount from having LoJack) so $1700 a year with 100/300k Bodily Injury, 100k Property Damage, 5k Medical 100/300k Uninsured Motorist..

not bad considering I totaled a car less than a year ago (my poor Z :()

Geico wanted ~1600 every 6/mo just for the RX8 and a ton for my Eclipse which had libility only with them (i totaled the Z with them) so i moved to 21st Century Insurance and now have full coverage at the amounts above + 5k of additional equiptment insurance on the eclipse for the $1283/6mo

I guess Geico just doesn't like RX8's...they overcharged me as well, so I switched. Geico originally quoted me at $1600 every 6 mos for the RX8 as well, but then later told me it'd be $2400. Those bastards!

Anyways, i forgot to mention that i also have a house, boat,Honda prelude,01 dakota all insured through Geico. I'm guessing that i am getting a killer discount because of this.
from what i have learned it pays to put everything under the same insurance carrier.

Yes, definitely getting a killer discount...wow that must be nice. The more vehicles you carry under one insurance provider the less you pay, typically, because you can't drive all of the vehicles at the same time =P. That's my theory anyways. If you're in the boat...the RX8, prelude are safe...if you're in the rx8, the boat, house, prelude are safe, etc etc.

I was expecting to see RX-8 owners mostly in their 20's at SevenStock this year but the majority were in their 40's and some in the 50 range.

Yet based on the replies here, the owners are mostly in their 20's.

I think it might be possible that most 40-50 range owners do not spend any or much time surfing here.

Anyway, I am 43 and pay about $1,200/year for insurance in California for the RX-8.

SpacerX
10-19-2003, 02:20 PM
That's an interesting observation, RP, and a reasonable correlation between surfing and 40-somethings.

I suggested in another thread (very complimentary to this one, BTW -- Owner, Know Thyself (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12023)) that, IMO, the RX-8 seems more geared toward "Gen-X" drivers (ages from late twenties to early forties, probably), as opposed to "Gen-Y" drivers (teens and early twenties), for which cars like the Neon SRT4, Evo VIII, and WRX/STi will be more appealing, generally speaking. Of course, individual tastes will vary...

It would be interesting to learn what sorts of demographic and market assumptions went into Mazda's calculus for the final design...

I really don't mind if the majority of RX-8 drivers are 18 or 55. I have always enjoyed cars for what they are, demographics are unimportant.

This is a great car and if an 18 year old can enjoy it as much as me (43 years old), hey that tell me Mazda engineers made a cool car for everyone.

Jhouse
10-20-2003, 03:45 PM
oosik, i'm affraid you wont know the meaning of wrong until you get your first insurance bill. Since you are only 15 you are going to be a prime target for the insurance companies.

Lets put it this way. You are going to be sort of like those guys that own the Ferrari or Lambo or even a Viper and your insurance payment is more than your car payment.

Something you might want to consider is having your mom be noted as the primary driver. I am not trying to knock on you but seriously @15 you are going to be getting nailed on insurance.

P.S. But obciously if you are 15 nad can actually afford this car then you must have the income to pay for the insurance.

Jhouse
10-21-2003, 09:54 AM
Have any of you with multiple cars ever considered telling your insurance company that you only drive the thing on occassion like maybe a few thousand miles per year. this really helps your rate go down. Also if you are married put your wife as the primary occasional driver. FEMALES still get the best damn rates.

Elara
10-21-2003, 10:34 AM
Also helps if you raise your deductible. I raised ours from $200 to $500, and it dropped our insurance from $1,800 for my husband & myself on a '93 325i and the 8, to $1480 a year.

Jhouse
10-21-2003, 10:45 AM

How old are 8 owners?
I base this question off of a thread I read a while back about KILL postings. It was noted that 8 owners are generally more level-headed, etc. This leads me to believe that they are also older than 18-24. Just want to see where 8 owners are in their lives.

I am 33

Not all of us are like that. I want to be able to say that the cool car I own, is mine. I could prolly get my dad to help me out via helping me with money, but the only help i'm asking from his is for getting the discount he gets from ford owned car companys. IMO, a lot (not all) of people that their parents buy their car, don't respect it as much. They know if something happens, the parents will fix it. I know someone that's had 3 cars, that are between $25k and $35k, within 3 years because he didn't like the first two cars as much as the 3rd one.

Well, if I could explain why women act like they do, I'd be one wealthy woman as a result of all the books and talk-show appearances I would be doing! Some women need alot of space, usually as a result of past mistakes or what they've seen their friends go through. Some are afraid of serious commitment because they believe in the sanctity of monogamous relationships. All I can tell you to do is ease off without whining or outwardly showing your disappointment. Be sweet and attentive this weekend without smothering her, and after the weekend is over, become a little less "available". Do things with your friends, don't call her as often, think more about Feras and less about whats-her-name. If she senses the change, one of two things will happen: she'll either take the out and move on, or start showing more interest. Kind of a tough love situation, but the only solution I see. Good luck, Feras, and I hope the weekend goes well.

I think it's a great thing that RX-8fan01 runs his own two business. Good for him .
The taste in his vehicle is his own, and he could whatever he likes with his body and car.
I don't think he meant to come across as bragging.

Best of luck RX-8fan01 !

Well I can say, at-any-rate, on his behalf; he handled the criticism quite well and maturely! :) In order to prove that you have all this cash flow though, I will need him to lace a large money order to me in the mail.;)

It's sad that you're so full of yourself and have no problem bragging but fail to realize that all the money in the world isn't going to make you educated.

This thread was about how old people are. Not how much $ you make. Way to go, winner!

I swear...having khtm on my side now will never get old. :D we work much better as a team than against each other. haha

Looks like the average value is really hovering just over 30. My running count is at 30.376 right now, but I might have mistakenly included one of ViceGrip's posts as an age, before I realized he was doing the same thing!

30 sounds about exactly what Mazda is targeting, old enough to look beyond sheer performance, yet still young enough to enjoy a fun car :D

I think it's more marketing to the kid in us, the "Zoom, Zoom, every kid knows it." thing Mazda puts out. So, I'd agree, 30 is about right, which justifies the pricing also, IMO. Just look at the little things thread, people (me included) are talking about the car like we just got a brand new set of Legos or a Red Rider BB Gun. :)

BTW, when I get in the car, I do feel younger, right around 30. :)

Being 32 when I purchased the car I have to say they did their marketing well.

The trouble is, does the poll reflect the age of the drivers? Or just the ages of RX-8ers that use this forum?
