View Full Version : Don't you just HATE IT when......
asparapani 10-16-2003, 06:50 AM Hey all,
I'm starting this thread because this happened this morning on the way to work.
I was drving peacefully listening to 99.9 the BUZZ from Plattsburg (awesome rock station), and this F****** punk drives up to me with a modified honda civic thinking that he was in those new " Honda nation " commercials, and he was trying to cut me off and get me to race with him! ARRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! I hate these punks that take a vehicule that was DESIGNED for feul economy, and thnk with a few k in mod's is the fastest thing next to a ferrari.
Anyways I blew him off and continued with drive to work in my 8. AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
Share some stories please!
Elara 10-16-2003, 07:32 AM I get these fruitcakes all the time. They stare and rev engines- I ignore them. Idiots. I'm just *so* intimidated by them.
(no streetracing replies, guys!!! Just a reminder!!!)
Fab 8 10-16-2003, 08:10 AM I have had wierder encounters...MPVs, old Toyota Camry and Honda Accords tailgating me along the highways to get me to race!
RX-GR8 10-16-2003, 09:57 AM i just ignore them.
zoom44 10-16-2003, 11:53 AM i had a guy in a porshe last night running up my ass and then zipping around as we got to the top of the on ramp. then he got back in front of me. a little ways later when we were in seperate lanes his lane slowed down so i ended up in front of him. he did some crazy downshifting and pasing for the next half a mile just so he could cram back in front of me in my lane. talk about inferiority complex. it was raining to.
The other day for about 2km I had an annoying rattle that was happening every time I'd speed and slow down - rearly strange. It took me those 2km to realise that a ute with rattling ladders and bits was pacing me on my rear quarter so the guys in side could look at my car...
Most of the Honda guys in my area avoid WRXs and fast cars in general like the plague, though they like to rev on me and then dash into a turn lane. The funniest thing about it is they will stop or slow down in front of my house and rev at my car... I will never understand that one.

jtimbck2 10-16-2003, 01:19 PM I followed an Acura RSX-S in to work this morning. The way in is a very curvy road (as are most of the roads around here), and the driver was really pushing it, I guess he was trying to impress me or something.
Problem is, there's one section of this road which is residential, with houses built right next to the road, no sidewalks, and people often do walk up and down the sides of the road (and it's a narrow road to begin with). It really isn't safe at any time, day or night. The speed limit is 25, and this idiot didn't slow down at all; I'd guess he was going 45-50 through this area. I slowed down to a max of 30 there.
After all that, he beat me to work by just 30 seconds, but he could easily have killed a pedestrian in the process.

Tee hee. For some reason that reminds me of the thing dogs have about lampposts.
mikeb 10-16-2003, 01:32 PM You should take it as a compliment
I had one of those hooked up hondas and it was stolen in July hence my rx8
When I saw a nice car and I was in my civic I would always pull up next to them and make sure they saw me
I didn't rev or cut them off though
Its a hobby people, I bought a regular and common car "the civic" and made it my own personal ride----------

Agreed. No need to be a Saab snob.
B-Nez 10-16-2003, 06:14 PM What really gets me are the haters, and I know you all know what I mean. During my drive home Friday on a divided 4-lane this guy in a Lumina or something was in the left lane blocking at like 2 mph over the posted limit. I was really patient for a long time - like 5-7 minutes, but it was getting really rude. Finally, I gave him a quick flash of my headlights, and kept my distance. After another few minutes with no response, I flashed my lights a few times quickly. He suddenly floors it, and begins to creep ahead. After opening up a 2-car length window, I downshifted into 3rd and punched it. As soon as I did that, the jerk slammed on his brakes. No big deal, since I just popped over to the now empty right lane. As we flew past, my wife informed me that the passenger flipped us off violently. How disgusting...

yea i know the feeling. they're in the left lane going 10 MPH under the speed limit. you finally have a chane to pass them and more often than not they have a cell phone in their hand chatting away. those things should be banned from cars except in the case of an emergency. most people cant drive and talk on the phone at the same time. some people just love the left lane and will not leave it no matter what even if the sign says keep rigjt except to pass.
mikeb 10-16-2003, 06:42 PM that is called road rage
SpacerX 10-16-2003, 08:27 PM Idiots with nothing better to do than inconvenience and/or harass others... no doubt due to some feelings of inadequacy...
CruelNewb 10-17-2003, 01:28 AM We'll I was very patient in the first 1500 on my 8. Then on a freeway junction a BM 500 class i believe (the 4 door ones) reved me in the U curve junction. So I took up his challenge knowing my 8 was designed for curves I hit 90 on the curve and he almost lost it about 1 car length behind me. When we merged the freeway he floored it but I knew I already beat him, so i slowed down to speed limits lol.
Yeh, for speeding in a straight line go the Saturn 5 (rocket) :)
RX8 ... "The car designed to drive you round the bend!" :D :D :D
asparapani 10-17-2003, 06:33 AM LEFT LANES ARE FOR FAST CARS!!!!! I hate people that don't know how to use the lanes! There is a system to respect!
Someone tell that to ONTARIO! AHAHAHAHHAHA!;)
RotaryStalker 10-17-2003, 07:59 AM I don't play road games anymore. My last beast was a Porsche 928-S4... People wanted to play all the time.
My favorite thing to do with the retards that get on my ass is to lightly lay off the gas without hitting the breaks... Usually they get enough brain matter working to realize they'll have to give 100% attention to avoid bumping me and back off.

most honda's...most meaning civic's, accords right? About them revving I get that all the time, and their not just honda's.
mikeb 10-18-2003, 04:37 AM news flash
some crx's, accords,civics, integra's, preludes are faster than WRX's, mustang's, camaros, bmw's, etc,etc
some of these "ricers" dont just buy big wings and ground effects
they also buy engine swaps, turbos, nos, supercharges
I've seen crx's beat 5.0 mustangs
Ive seen integras beat corvettes
graves 10-19-2003, 02:21 PM As a female, I get a real kick to see pimped out honda redneck idiots nearly kill themselves to get up next to me on the highway wanting to race. As soon as they see it's a female driving, they look crushed and move on.....trust me, there are tons of rednecks in TN. hehe.
I won't even acknowledge that I see them...Total snub...hehe.
khoney 10-19-2003, 03:00 PM When I'm in the left lane in rush hour traffic (no place to go in front of me), I really hate it when I get a tailgater about 5ft off my bumper. Like they'll have someplace to go if I move over. WHen that happens, I allow twice the normal space in front of me to allow for my stopping distance plus the jerkoff behind me. That really infuriates them. Maybe Mattel should start making Big Wheels sized for adults - they don't have the maturity to drive anything beyond that.
lurcher 10-19-2003, 03:15 PM khoney, I feel your pain. I always allow good stopping distance, and if some idiot decides to tailgate me in the fast lane, I make a habit of flashing my rear fog lights. To people not thinking too hard they look like brake lights, and make em back off...
(This is in an MX-5/Miata currently though, although from what I can gather the RX-8 rear lights are very similar).

Another reason why they should be an option in America.
Omicron 10-20-2003, 11:04 AM I think I have one of the first RX-8s north of Denver, and have seen several near accidents caused by people racing to catch up with me so they can get a look at the car. Dangerous driving to catch up with me is bad, but I gotta admit that all the attention is cool!
And I won't comment on racing as there is a policy against it here...
graphicguy 10-20-2003, 12:37 PM Happens all the time with the Honda/Corolla/Saturn winged crowd. I usually give them a dust off once. Sometimes when I'm feeling fiesty I'll dust them twice just so they don't crawl up my ass again.
Then there's whole Mitsu 3000 crowd....usually well worn ones. I give them about a couple of car legnths and then down shift to 3rd, bow by them by 100 yards, let them catch up and do it again for as many times as they want to be embarrased. Most of them don't seem to get the message.
I don't even acknowledge most of those trying to race because I know I've got a turn up ahead or need to exit in a mile or so. They can rev all they want to. I'm not wasting my gas on them.
Alright the best I've had was when I was heading home from work late one night. It was dark and I was in my 968, and this sedan kept trying to keep up with me on this twisty road leading to the highway I needed to get on. So anyway I started pushing harder and harder and to my amazement this "sedan" was pretty much keeping up with me. It was really starting to hack me off because I could tell it wasn't a sportscar, but he was being very aggressive and doing a good job of hanging on......anyway once we got to the highway I hit the entrance ramp and he came up right w/ me, then pulled into the next lane to pass me. At this point I wanted to just let him go. So when he passes me he hits his lights and siren.....it was a City of San Antonio cop jackin w/ me. He shut his lights and siren off as he went by, gave me a thumbs up and headed off. Actually a pretty cool cop who just wanted to see what that ol' cruiser could do.

also, caprice headlights suck
better safe than sorry though
Astor 10-20-2003, 05:19 PM That's a funny story, and I agree with the female rx-8 driver about TN, (I've only seen one in Nashville, although I'm sure there are more) there are a lot of rednecks here, they usually just do body kits, I haven't seen anyone with anything very fast. And by the way, the left lane is for passing, not fast cars.
