tire pressure sensor

hey all. the tires i have show to hold max 51 lbs per tire. got the low at 25 or so and put in about 45 per and still have the light.
think that the range for the sensor is about 26-36 or so. what should i do?
just lower the pressure to get the light to go off?
later

Why are you running such high pressures? I don't even run that high when I autocross.

Mazda recommended is 32. Try that and see if the light goes out. If it does, try increasing the pressure by small increments over a couple of weeks.

I got the same issue. I'm running 32-35 in each one. My light only beeps in the mornings when I first drive it then turns off the rest of the day. (I figure it's the colder weather) Does it compare all 4 sensors to each other and when one falls out of a certain range of the other ones the light will come on?

i think that it can light with just one tire low. had it go off before with just one low tire.
I guess i am just gonna reduce the tire pressure to 35lbs or so and just hope that it don't eat up the tires as it will be at about 15lbs under tire reccomended pressures.

please read your owners manual.. the tire pressure section..

51 psi is what the tire maker says the tire can hold. has nothing to do with how much air should be in the tire..

the tpms will go off it the tires are under 26psi. or over 49.

if the tpms turns on and you drive it and it goes off. you have a low tire that warmed up and expanded to produce 27 psi..

btw, you own two bikes and dont know this stuff????

whoa thats crazy high tire pressure. generally the number listed on the side of the tire is the MAX rated pressure, not what you should run.

theres a thread somewhere that talks about the sensitivity of the TPMS and IIRC its based around the Mazda reccomended 32psi. ex.: light comes on at 7lbs over or 11lbs under or something like that

Thank you for saying this before I had to. I was about to ask if this was their first car ever. Max PSI and what you run, are totally different.

Do you have chrome caps? I heard it can effect your TPMS if you are not using rubber/plastic caps. The metal does something to it. I'm sure that info is on here somewhere.

nah they're the stock plastic ones. I'll have to measure the psi early in the morning when it's cold (that's when it usually comes on). When I checked it last week it was mid-day.

So what does the car recommended tire pressure have to do with what the tire says?
Didn't think mazda made tires.

Like people that have harleys and think they have to have harley tires and use harley oil. Last time i looked harley didn't make either of those things.

I do understand now about what the range is for the tire scensor, why i asked to make sure. I also know that when i run either of my bikes at about 5lbs or more under maximim tire pressures it reduces tire tread life, again why i asked as i went by what it says on the side of the tires.

ok,

where do you get your bike tire pressures from?? the tire?

have you ever read an owners manual? have you looked at a door jamb and read the placard there?

i will give you a start.

http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp

but really all the info is in the owners manual. how hard is that?

what tire pressures are you running on your ford truck?

beers

now read that again.. do you really think harley makes oil or tires????

i do know the owners manual for harley does have the recommended tire pressure in it..

do you have a zuke tire and use zuke oil? i dont..

i am not trying to be a dick.. if you do not have an owners manual. you can download one at mazdausa.com..

lots of cool stuff in it...

btw, you can pm me.. i will help with more links..

WTF??? If you run your tires at 51, they'll be gone in 10,000 miles or less -- if you live that long. For God's sake read your car manual!

Wow. Just wow.

Don't you think that Mazda (and nearly ALL other manufacturers) did just a little bit of R&D to see what pressures yielded a good compromise between handling, treadlife, even wear and comfort?

To respond to your specific statement in kind: How does the tire manufacturer know the mass or dynamics of the car that their tires will be mounted on?

There's more to tire pressures than just max carrying capacity at max tire pressure (which is usually what is listed on the sidewall).

The tire says MAX for a reason. There is an entire range of pressure that is safe for the tire itself before immediate physical damage may occur. Any one point in that range is okay for the tire, but not necessarily best for handling, wear, economy, etc. If tire manufactures started printing the minimum pressure (presumably zero) on the tire along with the maximum, what would you do?

Just lower the pressure to the recommended 32psi before you confuse yourself anymore.

You are checking the pressure before doing any driving on them, correct?

so what a few people have suggested is then that these tires are only made for one brand of car then?
So again i ask at what psi is the tire considered under-inflated?

For the RX-8, less than 32 psi is under inflated and more than 32 psi is over. There's a couple of psi reasonable tolerance, and for special situations (like racing) you might use something else. The TPMS will light when the pressure is off enough to damage the tire or cause unsafe handling. I think the TPMS thresholds have already been posted.

The max pressure on the sidewall is a limit beyond which the tire will be damaged even without driving on it. Tire installers will often inflate a tire to a high pressure to seat the bead, then drop the pressure to that recommended by the auto maker. The sidwall number is really there for the installer.

The correct tire pressure for any given car is printed on a sticker that's either in the glove box or on the doorjam.

Ok let ME elaborate on what I said. I will type slow so u can keep up.
Was told that the mazdas owners manual said to inflate tires on this mazda to 32lbs, or there about.
Got that. Also understand about the scensor range on the mazda also.
But what if these exact same tires are on a completly differant car type/brand/ make of car? do ALL owners manuals on any car that CAN have these same tires, say to inflate the tires to 32lbs? i don't think so. i also understand that differant weights of any one car will will dictate tire psi.
My POINT is that these same tires can go on many differant cars and will bet that they all will not say the exact same tire pressure recomendations.
Not everyone is a genius as u think u seem to be. I asked a simple question, and when I questioned the reasoning behind the answer i am called a dumbass.
Some people might take what u say as law and leave it at that but i like to try and understand the reasoning behind something instead of just doing what i am told.
Forgive me for questioning your greatness.
Michael

dude, im not trying to be an ***, and i dont think anyone else is either, but youve got serious mental problems if you think any car would need 51 psi in the tires. please let some air out before the tires explode, killing everyone within 500 yards.
