Ok, the Security Light Indicator is flashing continuesly after engine is turned off and key is removed. The only time it's not flashing is when the enine is running. I had this car for two weeks now, it wasn't doing this before. Is this normal?

That is the correct operation of the security light - it blinks as a deterrent, to indicate that the immobilizer is enabled. Either you didn't notice it previously, or it was broken but has miraculously fixed itself! :)

ok lets think about this. it's flashing when the key isn't in the ignition. makes sense right? it's saying the security is armed. when the engine is running the key is in the ignition and the flashing stops. why would it be flashing then?

RTFM :)

Immobilizer System

Arming
The system is armed when the ignition switch is turned from the ON to the ACC position.
The security indicator light in the instrument panel flashes every 2 seconds until the system is disarmed.

Disarming
The system is disarmed when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position with the correct ignition key.
The security indicator light illuminates for about 3 seconds and goes out.

If the engine doesn’t start with the correct ignition key, and the security indicator light keeps illuminating or flashing, the
system may have a malfunction. Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer.

You should read your owner's manual cover to cover before you get back behind the wheel. It's all in there.:D

OK, thanks for the info guys. My paranoias came from 3.5 years ownership of a VW. My last car was a 2000 GTi VR6, it's a fun car and love the design. But it had lots problems, every few months some parts would stop working. Anyway, whatever you do, stay away from VW or Audi.

My friend's 5 DAYS old A4 transmission broke. Audi won't replace the car for her, they told her "we'll fix it for you or you can sue us for a new car" Nice customer service!! I encountered similar service from VW.

Mazda was a totally different story. I picked out an 8 from Galpin Mazda's storage lot. After I signed all the paper, they discovered someone has keyed the car (about 6" long and deep to the metal) on right rear fender. Galpin offered to fix it, but I hold them I want another one. Without hesitation, they spent 4 days to track down an exact same car from another dealer and trade cars with them. What a service, I highly recommended Galphin Mazda!!
