Wouldn't it be funny if this whole time they were using all those cpu cycles to develop some sort of super weapon to conquer the world?

The thing I like about GIMPS is that it hands out work according to the power of your CPU, so grunt boxes do the bulk of the work while little old Pentiums and 486's can still make a valuable contribution by doing the less-intensive double-checking and verification tasks. My 2.6GHz Athlon workstation, 1.2GHz Athlon and 600MHz PII servers, and a handful of miscellaneous Pentium boxes and laptops, are all chugging away each doing whatever best suits their capabilities.

No use wasting your unused CPU cycles. I use my three computers for cancer research. Makes more sense than SETI.

Since we are on the subject on running these distributed computing projects, I have to bring to your attention to this: http://www.grid.org/projects/

These guys are really putting the power of distributed to good use, they have projects from searching for the cure for cancer to finding cure for bio weapon like anthrax. I believe it was last year (or the year before when we had the great Anthrax scare ), a lot of people pulled together and completed the Cure for Anthrax project and the result was sent to the labs to help develop a better cure for anthrax.

I've been running my computers for the Cure for Cancer as I recently had lost someone close to me to Cancer. If you are interested, please sign up and help us out !

PS: I was on SETI as well, got up to 5,000+ units. Then I figure I'll dedicate my computing power to solve the problem that we have on this planet first .... I'll worry about those little green men, after we have found a cure for Cancer. :D

ebay says the name of this car is diablo. After seeing it from the front I would call it snaggletooth.
