The thing I like about GIMPS is that it hands out work according to the power of your CPU, so grunt boxes do the bulk of the work while little old Pentiums and 486's can still make a valuable contribution by doing the less-intensive double-checking and verification tasks. I believe it was last year (or the year before when we had the great Anthrax scare ), a lot of people pulled together and completed the Cure for Anthrax project and the result was sent to the labs to help develop a better cure for anthrax. I've been running my computers for the Cure for Cancer as I recently had lost someone close to me to Cancer. If you are interested, please sign up and help us out ! PS: I was on SETI as well, got up to 5,000+ units. Then I figure I'll dedicate my computing power to solve the problem that we have on this planet first ....
