Howdy fellow RX8'ers..

I have a rather strange problem with my RX8's Radio - four times so far the FM frequency band has changed up a frequency by .1, for example I'm listening to FM 106.5 then suddenly, without any hands or wands (or feet even!), the radio goes all static and has changed to FM 106.6!

This has happened 4 times so far, twice during rapid acceleration and twice more when the car is stationary in traffic.

The steering mounted controls seek to the next up/down preset station so my fat fingers shouldn't be doing too much harm! As far as I know, the only way to go up in small frequency increments is to use the Seek button on the radio headunit - and I'm nowhere near that when it changes.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to why its happening. Maybe its my RX8's way of telling me it hates the station I listen to!:)

Let me know if you've experienced this bizzare issue.

All I can offer here is to say that it's not happening to me and I think you should complain to the service department about it. Being the radio, they won't try and repair it, they'll just replace it and hopefully your problem will go away.

Does't it do it when the signal seems to become weak or anything? - not that I believe it's go any smarts in it..

I've seen a similar problem posted before, weeks ago though but despite searching I can't find it. It was an American who was getting frequency changes mostly when moving his steering wheel a lot. Some people thought it was a bad switch on the wheel but I never saw a resolution. Can anyone else find that thread please?

I think you would know if you were fat-fingering the wheel controls, but incidentally you CAN seek the "radio dial" from the wheel. You press and hold the up/down button, and it will seek to the next active signal. Perhaps there is a short in your wheel.

Sounds to me like there's something wrong with the manual tune knob on the dash. There's probably something slightly loose inside it, which is moving just enough to trigger a single pluse.

Thanks everyone, appreciate your comments - I suspect something is probably shorting the radio controls and hence changing the frequency. It seems to be occuring more often now so I'm hoping to be able to showcase this to the dealer next week during my 1st service.

Mikeb - neglected to comment on my AM reception, it's lousy! I don't listen much to AM so I'm not too concerned about it.

Hmmmm... I was thinking that radio stations (here in the US at least) only use the odd tenths. That is... 106.1, 106.3, 106.5, 106.7, 106.9... If you're getting bumped to 106.6:confused:, then I'd venture a guess that there's a problem with your tuner, unless things are that different on your continent. (?)


Okay, okay, yes I know "things" are very different there, like no Kangaroos here, or walkabouts, or towns called "Porpoise Spit", or big lavender busses cruising throught the dessert with giant silver shoes on top of them...

Here in U.S., stations are assigned the odd .2 MHz increments, but in many other countries, they use a .05 MHz increment.

I believe the same applies in Australia - actually never really thought much about it but our stations do use the odd tenths. So with the exception of the great Aussie Icons you mention above, we are very similar!:) Haven't taken my car into the dealer as yet, but will let y'all know the outcome when I do.

Just an update regarding this issue - had my first service but didn't mention this issue to the dealer as it seems to have dissappeared (so far anyway!).

What I did was "fiddle/turn" the "Tune/Auto-M" control and presto - the problem has gone. Anyway, I didn't want the dealer stuffing around with the radio if I couldn't reproduce the problem, but so far it's been a few weeks and the selected frequencies have been stable.

Great. It was probably a bit of dirt in the contacts.
