was it waxed at the dealership? if not then of course wax it. if it was and you want to use your own wax, etc then wash it with some dawn soap to strip the old wax off and wax it. not a bad idea either way.

Hi:

To get the best results, do "Dawn" your 8 a few times to remove any old wax. Then I highly recommend claying your 8 before waxing. For those who have never clayed before, it's worth the time and effort. You think your "new" car feels smooth? Try claying the car before waxing it. You'd be totally amazed as I was when I first clayed. Claying a car removes all the dirt in the clearcoat so everything is clean and smooth to apply wax too. A little more work, but highly recommened. I plan on claying up my 8 sometime soon and then waxing her before the winter. :D

I've heard that you should wait a couple of months before the first wax job. The reason given was to give the paint a chance to "harden". I don't think there is any need to wax the car so soon; so I'd probably leave it alone. 'course this could all be crap and/or based on paint characteristics of 50 years ago...

I Zaino'd mine the day after taking ownership.

Remember, after your RX-8 was born, it sat at the Japan port, then it had the transit time, then sat at that port, then was trucked to your possession point.

Plenty of time to let any paint 'harden'.

Even if the car was painted just last week, you can zaino now. Sal Zaino told me the catalysts they add to the paint almost cure it immediately. He also said, if you had to wait for modern day paint to cure, it would never cure.
