yeah i remember this was brought up before.. but we really need to find a cool "unique" way to greet each other while in the road, so while whatching hot road, they were talking about the "amrican muscle" and how the "road runner" car had its own horn... we should find a different horn "unique" and say HI ..

ya cha think? or what other methods, i currently exchange thumbs up with other folks in nice car, IE lambo, viper, custom hot roads besically anything that turns your head as our cars do..

The trick is to convey a rotary impression with one hand. I suggest with index finger extended ("pointing" finger, not middle finger :( ) twirl it around in a rotary fashion. Like a swizzle stick, but held horizontally, not vertically.

As long as you flash it to the right RX8 owner. Sound like a good way to get shot in LA! LOL!!

I say the official RX-8 "hey, how're ya doing" sign on the road should be to put the car into a 360 spin, all the while keeping the forward momentum, and then pulling back into straight driving mode after one rotation.

We had a similar debate on the Euro forum and one of my colleagues suggested the following: make a circle with finger and thumb, to represent the circular rotor chamber. Move up and down to represent the eccentric movement of the shaft.

What about flashing 8 fingers, like the Van Buren Boys? Probably not a great idea on the twisties.

10-14-2003, 09:52 PM
This may be oversimplified but how about just two fingers in a peace sign or "V".

Similar to a rotor shape and also can't be misinterpreted negatively. There wouldn't be much time to do anything more elaborate during the average pass on the street...

how about we all just get a triangle tatooed on the back of our hand and hold it up as we pass? beats doing contortions with our fingers. :D

How about ASL (American Sign Language) for the number 8? Simple enough to do.

http://www.masterstech-home.com/The_Library/ASL_Dictionary_Project/ASL_Tables/Numbers.html

looks a lot easier and faster to do than spelling out R X 8.

:D

I think we have a winner. Fairly simple and definitely unique.

How's about putting your hands at 10 & 2, then raising your 8 fingers while keeping your thumbs locked under the wheel........

Kuf
10-15-2003, 08:44 AM
You can make a rotary symbol with your two hands using your index fingers and your thumbs while still holding the top of the steering wheel. Of course, the other driver has to be looking inside your car to see it.

Or we can just give a shaka like they do in Hawaii.

Lets all write messages in the colour of our cars. Grey isnt on the list but with a bit of editing you can do it!- and it doesn't look as bright as the red!

i like the idea of the 8 in sign language.. its simple and you can streach out your hand if another owner has not spot you, for then to see you.. how do we make it official? should we do a poll with some options and see?

I thought that was Ludacris? He had one in one of his music videos.

This would be the best way but on the road and in the car, using two hands to salute is not too feasible :)

How about just a quick hand gesture where you open and close your hand like it's talking.....you know.... you men do it to women when we are nagging alot.......notice that the thumb and all your fingers almost look like the rotary shape...a skinny one. Or we could do the Mork and Mindy Nanu Nanu!

"Thumps up"? is that some sort of fisticuffs?

Stop the cars, land one on the chin, then both drive off. You'd be sure that you'd been seen (by everyone). It gets my vote.

Someone in a black RX8 in Cincinnati gave me the "V" sign when we passed each other. I just waved.

I think I may give the "V" sign from now on since it describe the shape of the rotary pretty well.
