View Full Version : Pettit Super Charger Owners
marsredr100 08-22-2008, 04:46 PM What you are seeing, are people paying GOOD money for this kit and then having to invest thousands more in water/meth, MAF tube fabrications, engine managment, a new heat exchanger etc.
Then, to make matters worse...I have not seen one official pettit car do anything with this kit other than fly down the street with a christmas tree of dash lights.
What???
Anything I added to my Pettit SC kit was solely done out of my own will and pursuing personal improvements to my RX8. That goes with the suspension, intercooler, engine cooling system, drive train, looks and bling-bling. The SC kit if just fine out of the box and that included free upgrades like the Pettit MAF tube, free advice from the shop owner (not just on his SC kit but many other issues), open door policy every time I go visit Pettit (a four hour drive) and honest feedback calls from Cam himself about his product. The meth kit is optional and last time I checked it cost less than $600 including extra optional components, shipping and boost juice.
I’m not an official Pettit car but just in case you haven’t seen the many other previously posted videos of my Pettit Racing Super Charged RX8 grab a cold one and a couple of ding dongs sit back and enjoy. :eyetwitch

Bastage 08-22-2008, 04:49 PM FL must be boring. Within maybe 50 miles of me, there are at least 10 greddy turbos, 1 or 2 pettit SC, 2 Esmeril turbo cars, 1 (soon to be 2 but he might not be within 50 miles) Mazsport turbo cars, and a couple customs. These are cars I know of. The number for FI 8s in the area is like 3 to 4 times that. I've been getting people yelling at me on the highway about how their other car is a turbo/SC 8 or they are looking at XYZ kit.
That's pretty awesome. I wonder what avg incomes are like in Arizona. Based on those numbers I would guess it's much higher than here. Most people I know with RX-8s (with the exception of 1) that want FI and don't already have it, are being held back by financial committments.
mysql 08-22-2008, 04:51 PM I actually quit going to local RX-8 meets because no one had anything modified besides rims or body kits.
The biggest Rx-8 meet I've been to was at the WC Mazda dealership, and the only other modified car there was BluMonster's.
maxxdamigz 08-22-2008, 04:55 PM I don't know if I'd say that Rx-8 modifications are more common up hear because people make more money. A lot of the heavily modified 8 owners I know of (like myself) just tend to spend every penny on the car rather than anything else. Of course, there are some owners with some nice bankrolls to work with. The Tuesday night near me is small - 10ish 8s and 6 of them would be body kitted and maybe 2 turbo'ed. If I go to the Flemington meet, there are 8ish 8s with 2 turbo, 1 sc and half kitted.
Bastage 08-22-2008, 05:01 PM I actually quit going to local RX-8 meets because no one had anything modified besides rims or body kits.
The biggest Rx-8 meet I've been to was at the WC Mazda dealership, and the only other modified car there was BluMonster's.
I would have been there but I had other committments, plus that place is almost a 3 hour drive for me. Juan saw a turboed 8 show up at a dyno meet in Tampa once, but they didn't run their car. They're out there, they're just few and far between.
That rotary event in Kissimmee earlier this month is a good example. 6 RX-8s showed up, about ten times as many RX-7s showed up. There were more 3-Rotor RX-7s (4) there than FIed RX-8s (only 3, all Pettit). I think BluMonstr really wanted to show up to that one but he had to work, and his car was at Mazsport.
Central Florida needs more FIed 8s.
olddragger 08-22-2008, 07:31 PM are you kidding? where has there ever been a "complete kit". people who invest this amount of money and time on their cars never leave them alone! Therefore it is never complete.
use the cars---ouuuuuu hmmm were is that vid of me on the track at roebling--the one where i was catching that Roar car.
See thT IS HOW IT IS-- people(probably good people ) say things without really knowing.

zenrx8 08-24-2008, 10:43 AM . ...My engine failure mainly due to poor engineering by Mazda. ..
You can't disagree with that. I think we've all found plenty of things on these cars that have left us scratching our heads or picking up the pieces.
zenrx8 08-24-2008, 10:52 AM If you guys are so weary of making MM/Jeff a focal point of conversation why don't you just ignore him?
Face it; we humans are magnets for drama and the controversy is giving many of us something by which we may be entertained/humored.
As far as our money ending up in the pockets of people for whom we have no respect; I guess we all better start interviewing every person who works for the companies with which we do business so we can make sure that every employee they have is somebody we agree with or, at least, can tolerate. Lest we provide sustenance for yet another "asshole".:lol2:

zenrx8 08-24-2008, 11:01 AM In the interest of trying to bring something useful to everyone, I just bought this BOV from an eBay vendor:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Universal-Blow-Off-Valve-Kits-Audi-1-8T-VW-Golf-GTI_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ46100QQihZ011QQitem Z320283216934QQtcZphoto
The vendor has hi volume and good feedback on parts; I'll post my impression of it when I get it. FYI, I used the "Make Offer" option, started lowball, and kept iincreasing $5 at a time until I hit at $50 plus shipping; the one I bid on, however, was priced at $59.95 for "Buy It Now", the new batch is "$64.95.

Bastage 08-24-2008, 01:06 PM I'm sure Cam would get a kick out of it. Next Sunday there are going to be 4 or 5 Pettit RX-8s at Champions Motorsports in Orlando. If Roland and Moon can make it over, 6 or 7 :)
Moon Assad 08-24-2008, 02:11 PM Cant make it by next weekend, not with my car atleast. Buy the way, Cam has some slick BOVs for sale. They have a oring seat and are piston type.

Nothing to figure out, Charles. You've just repeated every thing I've said about you. Keep your eye on the ball, it ain't about you; your character was never in question. You're what we altruists call "a good guy".
Moon Assad 08-24-2008, 11:52 PM Yeh, you should see these new piston type BOVs we got in, there just like the ones that seat aluminum on alumnum but instead they put an O ring in at a 45% angle to seat so no metal shavings have a chance to form. We dont have them up on the site yet but call Cam, he will kick you one for $100.

Ha, Ha! That was funny.
BTW…I just forwarded your comment to the Atlanta airport BAO team along with your previously posted video.
Based on their reply I highly recommend arriving at the airport a day or two before your next flight. Expect 100% carryon/checked baggage search, an interrogation session by the Behavior Detection Officer (BDO), FBI/ICE team evaluation, K9 officer search, guarantee sick/crying child next to your newly assigned airplane seat and most likely loss of luggage upon arrival at destination. All courtesy of the Atlanta BAO team.
Sorry…that’s how we roll. :eyetwitch

marsredr100 08-27-2008, 09:37 PM Sorry guys I didn’t mean to get your juices going. I, as an employee of the Department of Homeland Security, will always do my best to not let another 9/11 tragedy happen again. We don’t make the laws we just enforce them. Same as I did while serving this great country for over 20 years while in the US Army. Feel free to contact your Congressmen and voice your concerns and grievances. Also, take a look at the news video link and wonder if we could it done a better job then. No security system is perfect and I’m sure the powers above will be glad to hear suggestions for a better mousetrap. It just happened that I was less than a half a mile from the Pentagon on 9/11 and was one of the many soldiers helping right after a bunch of radical individuals decided to take the lives of many other innocent people mostly because of hate towards this great nation. :eyetwitch

Moon Assad 08-28-2008, 09:59 PM Ok, good news, we at Pettit have been working on ways to cool the RX-8 down in 90 plus ambiant temps. Well, with the help of Denny a while back we figured out how to cool these puppys way down. Were still working on some presentation and an easy way to do some ducting. Heres a few pics of what weve come up with.
Moon Assad 08-28-2008, 10:05 PM Yes, its the same cores as the heat exchangers. We figured if Cam uses 2 to cool down his 400cc rotory kart and acualy keeps those temps lower then the factory raidiator for that kart engine it should do the job and it did.
That's a great idea,
You don't think the plastic undertray will derform from the heat?

Rotr8 08-28-2008, 11:33 PM very nice Moon, has it been through some alternate weather, us up here in the north have horrible road salt in the winter...
Moon Assad 08-28-2008, 11:37 PM Good call, could just have 2 belly pans, you have to disconect the heat anyway to loop them into the system.
Rotr8 08-28-2008, 11:43 PM or some heavily louvred panels that could bolt up in the winter since high temps arent so much a concern
Moon Assad 08-28-2008, 11:48 PM you might not be able to reach operating temp and your heater core wont work
Rotr8 08-28-2008, 11:50 PM hmmm your right,,,, Im sure you guys will come up with a solution and great final package,,, as for my time to get some z's so I can go up to Jersey and watch the SpeedSource boys kick some Porsche ass...
Moon Assad 08-28-2008, 11:52 PM O, and BMWs, yes.
morkusyambo 08-29-2008, 12:32 AM Moon, what kind of drop in temps have you seen with that setup??
Phil's 8 08-29-2008, 08:11 AM I noticed that you said it was set up for the 90s and I can understand why. Out here the pavement can get up to 135 degrees F when in the direct sun (that is just what I found, it could go higher?). The heat radiating up from the road surface could not help this cool very well. I've been trying to work in my mind the variables that would allow something like this to work here. If you change the pan to metal then the heat transfer would be even worse, with out directional louvers the road surface heat would keep it from being effective. Maybe with fans and directional louvers??? Is there enough room for fans? At least you've got me thinking.
Sure is a shame that Mazda leaves it to us to engineer their car.
Rotr8 08-29-2008, 09:58 AM yeah Im thinkin something like the 91-98 MR2 engine lid with fan assembly might work, might be too heavy, but of course im not building it and dont have that much experience with heat exchangers...
Moon Assad 08-29-2008, 12:13 PM It was a major drop in temps, we couldnt get them to go over 184 when the temps youd be seeing on those days would be near 200. Were scooping the cool air in through the nose and out through the bottom. Im showing a 20 degree drop from one side cores to the other without driving sitting in the sunny parkinglot, if thats standing still you could imagine moving air down and through while moving. Electric fans might be also of benifit but we havent tried them yet. Weve only had 2 hot days to test these but im pretty sure we have a winner. The idea was to put the heat exchangers away from anything thats hot wether it be your radiator or engine.
Moon Assad 08-29-2008, 12:17 PM Yeh phil, im thinking you might need 4.

Rotr8 08-29-2008, 01:09 PM Hey guys anyone know where I can get Autometer guages(Boost/Vac and AFR) that will match my RB guages that are black and illuminate red. I checked thier site and its either a discontinued product line or RB had them custom ordered so it would match the illumination of the 8s interior... Im looking for the same setup I dont really want the christmas tree look with all different colored gauges...any help would be appreciated
EDIT - nevermind found them.....
morkusyambo 08-29-2008, 01:28 PM For future reference, Charles R. Hill(BHR) can get you anything that is Autometer for a great price.

nice work moon that really looks good and neat--dont be running over any gators! The real kind i mean.
Kinda sucks that we really havent had but one or 2 days where the temps were over 95.
Please advise folks to get the upgraded water pump before you do this. you have to have enough flow to keep the coolant properly agitated.

Razz1 08-29-2008, 08:04 PM Ok, good news, we at Pettit have been working on ways to cool the RX-8 down in 90 plus ambiant temps. Well, with the help of Denny a while back we figured out how to cool these puppys way down. Were still working on some presentation and an easy way to do some ducting. Heres a few pics of what weve come up with.

GummyGrip sell an excellent aluminum under panel by Beatrush. It will not interfere with the OEM or Greddy oil pan. No cutting or welding required, just four bolts to hold it in place. Contact Matt and mention the rx8club forum and my name (Juan) and I’m sure he’ll cut you a deal. :eyetwitch

I got 2nd place overall on the sprint track final course, behind a sprint prepared Lotus Elise, with semi slick tires, driven by a sprint guy who had done the track loads before. I only had 3 runs before the day ended, (and on one of those I went the wrong way! Whoops!)
I beat a TVR Tuscan, a variety of other Lotus Elises etc, a Porsche 911, a Nissan 350z and 300ZX, and other things I cant remember.

Its not really that hot at this time. Id say we need to wait till next hot season to give you any real input. I need a rad so I might just put it on my car. At the rate my car is going together and the cost of gas im not sure if im going to put the car back on the road anytime soon. Im thinking of building it into a balls to the wall track car and going another route with FI, and no, im not going to use a turbo. I might go all out and build a 350+ hp4 port/ 4speed, why not, the tranny is strong enough. Did you now its the one Mazda uses on the box trucks.

olddragger 09-02-2008, 11:44 AM ok---i have thought and thought--dangerous thing for me to do. but, I cannot think of any other way to get ambient air into the engine bay(i wont use the rb cai thing, cant anyway with my set up) without some bodywork.
My reasoning here is that since we are an MAF driven system, the maf needs cool air and not the engine bay hot ass, roast peanuts with, air. I know the map is scaled to the iat so my a/f's are as expected BUT I think my performance is off a little.
So I am planning on getting a recessed scoop installed in front of the airway hole in the frame. It would be nice if there was a pre formed scoop already available.
I dont like doing bodywork and if anyone has any other suggestions please throw them out.

marsredr100 09-02-2008, 02:46 PM Hey guys and gal. What is your idle vacuum reading? Mine stays @16.
15.5 on mine :eyetwitch
MazdaManiac 09-02-2008, 03:00 PM 15.5 on mine :eyetwitch
The S/C loads the motor like the A/C compressor - even at idle - so it is normal for it to pull about 1" or more vacuum from the nominal reading.
california style 09-02-2008, 03:37 PM 15.5 psi?
MazdaManiac 09-02-2008, 03:51 PM 15.5 inches of mercury.
maxxdamigz 09-02-2008, 05:01 PM What's stock vacuum supposed to be (no a/c, no blower)? I would have said mine idled at 19", but maybe 17 is more usual (16 with the S/C) and my MAP is off.... or maybe I just read it incorrectly. My boost gauge is more of a warning system.
MazdaManiac 09-02-2008, 05:03 PM 16" - 20" at sea level.
maxxdamigz 09-02-2008, 05:09 PM Alrighty - I'll stick with my 19" then!

MazdaManiac 09-02-2008, 08:41 PM Yes, but you have an S/C, which loads the engine at idle.
N/A and turbo don't have that.
marsredr100 09-02-2008, 08:50 PM Denny,
I took my car for a test drive today after removing the RB ram air scoop. My air temps where the same as before 4~6 degrees higher than the ambient temperature (ambient temp was 92 degrees). Look at the picture and notice where I set the temperature probe. Keep in mind that I made a heat shield box around the air filter/intake tube and a RB front bumper (bigger grille).
Also, here are the engine bay temps I got while at idle: 142 degrees AC OFF
147 degrees AC ON
Once the car start it rolling the temps dropped to 4~6 degrees above ambient temp right at the 25 mph point. They stayed the same from 25 mph to 85 mph. :eyetwitch
marsredr100 09-02-2008, 09:07 PM Denny,
Be careful making or adding an enclosed CAI to your setup. I did a while back experimenting with a four inch PVC pipe from the intake to the RB scoop (I had to heat bend the pipe in order to molded in the shape of an oval in order to fit the scoop). Anyway, my A/F ratio jumped to 15~16 at full throttle. Thank goodness for my car meth addiction or goodbye apex. :eyetwitch
marsredr100 09-02-2008, 09:27 PM My engine temps are down…way down since I remove the RB ram air scoop. I also changed my OEM water pump for a high flow Mazmart water pump and did the OD 160 degrees thermostat mod.
Oops! I almost forgot. I also added a 24-inch coolant radiator (rail style) to the bottom front in series with one of the leftover Pettit heat exchanger I had (located behind the aluminum intercooler heat exchanger and 10 inch electric fan). See pixs below.
At 92 degrees ambient temp and 80 mph the engine temp was 194 degrees with the AC at full blast. Once I lower the engine load and at short idle my engine temp hovered around the 180 degrees mark. Notice the drop in engine temperature soon after I let off the throttle. :eyetwitch
Moon Assad 09-02-2008, 10:56 PM Just rember to keep your temps below 210, a cool engine is a happy engine, they tend to live longer that way. :) Under 200 is even better.

Do you mean water coolant temp at Fahrenheit?
Cos my regular runs (with no frenetic driving) have the coolant temp at 195-210. And thats in the clearly not hot UK....
Brettus 09-03-2008, 04:34 AM how can 210 be bad - the factory fans aren't even switched to full before then ?

also : what oil temps are you guys seeing when your water is up around 210 and what is considered too hot for oil ?
The factory fan settings are not designed for anything close to a hot climate. By the time the secondary fans come on full blast you've passed 215 degrees coolant temp and well on your way to a heat soaked cooling system.
Mazda considers 210 degrees to be normal but honestly 210 is 10 to 15 degrees too hot to be normal. Now what's "normal" for you car will depend on mods and clearly an FI application will run warmer.
As for oil...beyond 220 degrees you start to degrade your oil faster than normal if you run for extended periods of time.
At 230 degrees you better start taking notice of what your doing and decide whether to keep pushing your motor.
230 - 255 is a danger zone...at 260ish degrees you're taking the bus.
marsredr100 09-03-2008, 07:06 AM at 260ish degrees you're taking the bus.

also : what oil temps are you guys seeing when your water is up around 210 and what is considered too hot for oil ?
As long as I am moving my oil temp stays @180-190, depending on the weather and my right foot. Idling is a different story. The temps slowly rise while sitting still. It took @7min, but one time the temp went up @230. I don't believe that is bad since oil doesn't start to break down untill much higher temps, but I still didn't like it since it was higher than what I'm used to seeing.
BTW, I'm using 10w40 synthetic. I also have higher OMP rates and the synthetic burns just as well as the regular stuff.

Well your not alone in Phoenix. We have the same problem. The two big desert populations are Phoenix (Metro) and Vegas. There are very few in ether place that are still on the original engine.
Nothing to touch - its the desert.

Until next year - this is going to be annual problem. I would hate to park this car for the summer but that may be the only way I can keep it under 230 degrees.
Moon Assad 09-03-2008, 02:36 PM Yeh, you gotta rember that it dosnt get that hot in Japan, Mazda wasnt planning ahead for such high temps. FI dosnt help the situation. If you want your engine to live longer you need to figure out how to cool it down in those areas especialy. How much does Mazda charge to replace your motor off of warrenty?? Even if you still have a warrenty its weeks that you dont have your car. Id think it be cheaper to get a beater for those days were your gona see any engine temps over 210, 220 and higher or get AAA. Im sure most people would rather not have to replace there engine every other year warrenty or not. If you can figure out how not to see the high temps im sure it would make RX-8 more appealing to more people especialy with FI.
MazdaManiac 09-03-2008, 02:52 PM Well, replacing my engine is cheap and takes a day, but I see your point.
However, Mazda operates a testing facility right here in Arizona and they allegedly beat the crap out of the M2 here for several months before the final model was stamped for go.
I've got pictures of it romping around in the desert.
Likely what happened was they tested and got it all buttoned up and then the accountants got hold of it and the final focus group and they decided that the nose was ugly, the rad was too expensive and the A/C wasn't powerful enough.
Jedi54 09-03-2008, 03:46 PM ^^ funny, sad, most likely true. :(
Phil's 8 09-03-2008, 06:09 PM Well I'm hoping that with the engine rebuild, Ray's radiator, Mazmat water pump and a few other mods, that it will run cooler next year. We are almost out of the really hot weather now it's down to 104 and talking about lower temps next week (100 degrees or so)

Rotr8 09-03-2008, 06:18 PM At the Rolex Grand Am race this weekend the 70 suffered a puncture to its passenger side oil cooler. Oil was all over the car, when it pitted about 40 mins into the race they looped the oil line and ran 2hrs straight with one oil cooler. After the race Nick Ham was kind enough to brief us on what happened, he said they were running well over 250 oil temps when he called Sylvain over, Sylvain said it was 285 for 2 straight with one oil cooler at race pace....

morkusyambo 09-04-2008, 04:29 PM Hey guys and gal. I suppose I could find it if I looked, but i'm feeling lazy. Anyone know the part# of the belt we're using for the kit??
Bco007 09-04-2008, 05:10 PM How many of you have installed the racepipe from racing beat? does it make a big difference? Also i just got news from racing beat regarding the long waited headers... anyway when i ordered the racepipe from them i received a phone call from someone over there saying that the racepipe was back ordered. Anyway, i asked about the headers and i showed a great interest. Well the sales person told me that the headers would be out mid September and if i wanted to order them. I immediatly told him yes making me the 1st person(according to him) to place an order. Price is around 550-600 he said but he didn't sound to sure. so everyone get ready the long awaited headers are coming out!!
Moon Assad 09-04-2008, 07:50 PM Well, replacing my engine is cheap and takes a day, but I see your point.
Well, once again I guess Mazdas leaving it up to us to figure out how to keep our engines alive.
Moon Assad 09-04-2008, 08:07 PM Since your still seeing high temps were all you desert guys live does anyone want to do some testing of our cooling setup. To include NA and blower kit and turbo kit RX-8 owners. You must have a way to see your exact temps, not the stock dashmount setups. Im sure its going to make a difference in your temps. Im also looking into the option of 4 coolers stacked 2 high in the higher temps you might see next year. At this time were using the heater line output but theres also the option of Ting into the radiator lines without any difficulty.
olddragger 09-04-2008, 08:29 PM Phil maybe?
Dude if you get a midpipe get a resonated one--do the search ! Also on the headers--any headers. See if it is worth it to ya.

More like 7 whp with the SC plus your engine will spool a whole lot faster. Shaved 2 seconds to spool the engine up to the preset engine cutoff point. :eyetwitch

It sounds great. With my engine rebuild I am reluctant to add another mod until such time that the engine is proven "bullet proof". There are some internal changes being made that may effect the cooling along with other mods that were added just before we discovered the loss of compression.
I have a friend here locally that would be perfect for testing of this item. He is n/a and has a very bad overheating problem (his compression is acceptable). He tried the Koyo with terrible results (as have I) and is looking for alternatives. What type of temp gauges would you want installed? If your serious I will bring it up to him and help him.

Hasn't somebody already done something quite similar?
marsredr100 09-05-2008, 12:32 PM Take a look at my latest project thanks to Rote8. We all know that the alternator is a major heat source under the hood. For example the surface temperature of my alternator reached 180 degrees this morning while idling with the hood open with 78 degrees ambient temperature. Notice what the heat from the alternator did to the adjacent insulation foam area covering the intercooler return 5/8th diameter hose. I decided to reroute the intercooler return hose away from the alternator by running it along the firewall, right fender, front of battery and back to the reservoir. I also took the opportunity to insulate some of the alternator radiating heat from the blower/intercooler and upper intake manifold by installing two pieces of starter heat shield material.
Will it help keeping the alternator heat away from the upper intake/blower/intercooler? :dunno:
Will it bring the intake temperatures down while driving? :dunno:
I’ll take the car for a drive tomorrow or Sunday and post the result afterward. :eyetwitch

munche187 09-05-2008, 02:20 PM its weeks that you dont have your car..
lol I guess it's not just with Mazda What's the update with my Car?
olddragger 09-05-2008, 02:54 PM i had not thought about shielding the sc unit from the alternator--hmm thats may be something. Cam took his return line and then placed his coolant tank over by the ww tank. then ran the hose forward-- i am thinking about modifing that entire up front unit(tank, hose, heat shielding for the intake(no more scoop in mind!!). I am also asking Summit racing if their alternator fan will fit on our car--it may.
Last yr at Road Atlanta my alternator got so hot it melted the edges of the belt--ambiet was 105F--i was not s.c. at that time.
I also am noticing that my interior a/c-heat fan will have "surges" faster then slower then faster and it is not dependant on anything. The filter is clean. ?????
I am wondering about the voltage regulation.
why does our alternator get so damn hot? other cars it doesnt.

snap!
OD, i talked to Ohio Gen on the phone a few times about alternators.... its rpm mostly.... there are other cars that spin up as well so there are other factors, but mostly its rpm.. the guy i was taling to told me the RX cars were notoriously hard to 'upgrade' the alternator cause they'd just cook or blow up lol.

You need a bat suit to drive that car. :)
olddragger 09-06-2008, 08:24 PM well i have found one thing. the space between the radiator and the air hole in the body needs shielding, closes the gap in front of the tray we use for the coils and pump etc, and I also am moving the return a/w hose away from the alternator.

marsredr100 09-07-2008, 09:40 PM Here is the logged data after my reroute/shielding job per posts 3195 and 3196 of this thread.
This afternoon at 95 degrees ambient temperature my intake temperature after the blower were in between 114 and 122 degrees depending on how hard I drove the car. AC was at full blast and not spraying methanol at all.
I just got back from driving this evening at 84 degrees ambient temperature. My intake temperatures after the blower were in between 109 and 111 degrees depending on how hard I drove the car. AC was on and after spraying methanol I got the temps down to 94 degrees.
I’m not sure what it will do to other SC cars but in my case it brought my intake temperatures 10~20 degrees lower than before. I also noticed that compared to other SCs my engine runs a bit hotter and I think is due in part to my MSD ignition coils and NGK 10.5 leading/11.5 trailing spark plugs.
I’m waiting for my new oil temperature sensor gauge so I can start monitoring my oil temperatures as well.
The attached logs are from this evening run. :eyetwitch
olddragger 09-08-2008, 11:27 AM you can get the temps down a little more Juan if you like too--pm Dr Cool:)
You will find that the oil temps will be very close to the coolant temp. Until you track her--then they will be a little higher.

Moon Assad 09-12-2008, 05:01 PM Belive it that the driver and passenger survived. The clutch pedal looks like it tagged the guys nuts. The front steel housing on the engine was broken and the tranny was broken in half. Not sure exactly what the details of the accident were though. From the looks of it, it seems they had to cut off the roof to get them out. Got to learn alot about how everything was put together though. There must be 10 miles of wire in our cars.

Not much going on with mine. My meth controller craped out two weekends ago while auto crossing. Today Snow Performance confirmed that the controller box was faulty and they are going to ship me a new one tomorrow. I parked the car since then and will be back on the road once the controller arrives home.
Also, I’ll be installing a heat reflector material between the blower and the engine on Monday. I’ll post pictures later on.
BTW, a state trooper decided to chit chat with me this morning on I-4 and gave me a $204 conference call bill. Anyway, first speeding ticket in over 10 years (85mph on a 70 mph zone) and over 100k miles of highway driving since then. Not bad, I guess, plus not to mention that five minutes earlier I was doing 140+ mph on my Hayabusa. :eyetwitch

Damn, sounds like my story. My previous ticket was in the Fall of 1997, but I got one this past April coming back from Raleigh, NC (80 in a 65). North Carolina doesn't rape their speeders as much, ticket was for $105 + $25 court costs. I ended up spending about the same as you though since I paid a lawyer to brag about my awesome driving record and get the points dropped.

olddragger 09-26-2008, 11:16 AM yea i have been running 20w/50 without a problem--but with the slightly longer warm up now and the fall ambient temps(Sorry Jeff highs in the 80"s here!) i was thinking a 10w 40 may be a good move.
i also made a blower heat shield with aluminum sheet and the motor armor gold tape. I havent installed yet as the engine bay temps are very cool now and i am not sure if it will be of any real affect.
what we need is the heat isolation intake gasket like the honda guys use and shielding from the exhaust for that lower intake. :) i have done some of that!!
we can you buy the phenolic material to cut your own?

marsredr100 09-29-2008, 10:29 PM Just added some heat shield to the blower and waiting for my new Snow Performance (due to arrive on Wednesday) meth controller so I can take the car for a test drive. The shield is from DEI and is rated for up to 500 degrees plus I added some of the starter heat shield leftover to the bottom of the blower.
