Hi all,,

Just had to comment on this one.. because I'd hate to have to start actively monitoring and kicking people off my FTP server.

The server shares my personal bandwidth, and I have had to resolve a stability issue with the cable companies equipment in order that I can continue (ab)using it to bring you all what comes my way...

This evening I saw 1 person with 5 open FTP sessions all downloading the same file.... they were infact trying to download 200 megs of a 35meg file...

If you were:-

adsl-80-158-234.btr.bellsouth.net

then shame on you!

I killed off all but the session which had transferred the most... hope you got the file, but believe me, if you download 5 copies at a time... you get it 5 times slower.... even slower if I ban your IP.

You've probably done it already without realising... as I've only posted links to individual files before now.

Point your favourite client to ftp.fsck.co.uk and login with the username/password or rx8/mazda.

I don't guarantee it'll be up all the time, but hopefully theres somthing you'll find interesting...

First one got banned...

pool-141-154-228-124.bos.east.verizon.net

Downloading 5 copies of racing.mpg at 130Megs each....

I banned their IP not for being daft and downloading the file multiple times (concurrently)... but for reconnecting and continuing the other 4 when I cancelled them...

Thinking about it, earlier, when one person had loads of connections... that would have meant that noone else could get in either... not to mention the fact that the bandwidth was shot!

Well, now theres a 1 session per host restriction in place... Some people might have to use a decent client that doesn't require 4 connections to work... but that's better than the alternative.

(Previous bans lifted)
