ZX3 to RX8

Hey guys. I am just trying to get as much input as possible here. I have an excellent deal lined up on an rx8. The car is mint... it's an 04 6MT, grand touring package.
I WANT TO KNOW if this car could potentially have so many engine problems that it wouldn't even be worth buying, or not. I've been doing my homework, and when I searched for recalls, I read about a ton of people getting new engines and a bunch of other problems as well. I don't have the CARFAX yet, and have not run the VIN through mazda, but ideally, what problems might unfold? What recalls are out there?
Oh, and if it matters, the car has about 50,000 miles on it, and so it is out of warranty.
Thanks a lot.

Sounds like you are scared not to buy it. If so, then logic says you must buy it, after which you will then be scared AFTER buying it, but you will not be scared TO buy it because you just bought the damn car and it's damn done deal.
If and when you buy the car, please start a new thread titled "Scared AFTER buying," and I will assist you in further logic from that point on.

There are plenty of potential problems & sounds like you've done your research & know them. If you like the car, buy a warranty when you purchase it.
run the VIN through carfax before you start negotiations. for the miles you will definitely have the upperhand on getting a good price-range. the motor now is built to last .. it has less moving parts than piston engines so the life of it is technically supposed to be longer if you stay N/A.
go to the mazda dealership and check all the recall notes .. your year has the issue with the engine that extends the warranty more than likely .. so your warranty should be extended for another 60k miles if the guy was the first owner he should have the paperwork in hand for the extended powertrain warranty.
also, don't buy an extended warranty from any other warranty company besides the warranty that mazda provides .. these fly-by-night warranty companies will declare bankruptcy faster than you can blink. i've had a bad experience and wasted 1600$ on an extended warranty for the supra .. 8 months later, tried using it and they were gone with the wind.

The link to Rosenthal in the thread that Swoope provided no longer works. Use this one for the full list of recalls and TSBs:

most dealerships are simply the middleman for an aftermarket warranty company. So you'd pay more since the dealership only adds to the price.
