Started the RX up and the engine light was on.The book said it could be the gas cap yep it was loose so i put it on the right way and the light is still on.The coolent is ok to.The car still runs good and everything seems fine.Do i have to reset anything to get the light to go off? This is kinda scary 700 miles and i get a engine lite! Of course its going back to the dealer but i was just wondering if there was something i should do to reset it .

The light will go off on its own after a few starts. It could take a day or two. If it bothers you, you can disconnect the battery for a little while to reset the ECU.

Dealership told me that the light will not go out after a few starts. It has to be reset. He said that he doesn't know why they didn't have it on a timeout or reset. :(

I had to bring mine to the dealer to be reset. The said there was a know issue and that Mazda would be releasing and updated version of the ECU software.

They downloaded the revised software into mine last week. The tech downloaded it from their support site (I watched him). Download into the car took 5 minutes.

I had been having repeated CEL's for thermostat problems (one of the known issues), and the thermostat always tested fine.

Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes WILL reset your light - I have done it several times now. The code is kept in memory and can still be found by the dealer later.

Hope this helps.

If you do disconnect, then the dsc will flash at you.

It might take two starts with movement for the lights to go off.

Just an FYI!

Sorry if this question is dumb......but, Has there been an "Official" TSB on the RX8 as of yet.
My dealer Tech dept claims thay have no knowledge of ANY issues as of yet.

I mentioned things like Oil Pan redesign, New software from Mazda to fix bugs like phantom CEL's.

They look at me like I have 2 heads. If there is a new software version available from Mazda...I want it. God knows what else was changed after Mazda Japan found some bugs.

Also...I dont think anyone in the service dept has worked on a rotary before, damned if mine is the first.:o
