Sexy Rexy 10-13-2003, 09:12 AM Rob, I am honestly telling the truth. I rang up the help line because my car is still not showing up on the dealer database, the lady said she will look in to it and ring me back + we will receive a letter by this Friday. Trust me on this one. RobDickinson 10-13-2003, 09:23 AM lol, that 'hotline' has lied to me on more than one occasion before. Titanium Grey 10-13-2003, 09:42 AM Yep I know, but think you might just get to know your delivery date before Brian gets back of holiday. :) Bet my letter arrives on Thursday! ;) Edo 10-13-2003, 09:58 AM I can see the letter now; Dear Mr Owen, We are pleased to inform you that delivery will almost definately be in November. It will be after the 1st, and before the 31st. We are carefuly matching orders to cars as we speak. We are still waiting for the 200 monkies to import the orders into our spreadsheet. Once the 286 has printed out new orders, we will be copying them, and posting them to the dealer. The dealer will then manually enter them onto their system. Dealers will be preping the cars and giving them out in no particular order at all. We thank you for your patience, and hope your faith has been restored that yes, we can get worse, not better. We will shortly be writing to you again to tell you absoloutely nothing. Ha, we lied. No we wont - speak to your dealer, who knows less than we do. c170673 10-13-2003, 10:15 AM I donl't want to question you precognition of your letter but there are only 30 days in November. :D If a letter comes saying your delivery date is the 31st November you are never getting it. Ed obviously works for their customer service dept!!:p Edo 10-13-2003, 10:20 AM Ok, so I can never remember the ryhme for how many days hath November etc. If I worked for Mazda UK, I'd have not had access to a pc for starters! Murphy 10-13-2003, 03:21 PM So much cynicism.. and yet so justified! bugbear 10-13-2003, 04:36 PM i spoke to my dealer today - t w whites - they are getting a new 'software release' for their ordering system from mazda next week. i was told that once that was installed then the following week i would be told my delivery date, that's the 27th October. i dont know why a new software release should really be stopping them knowing when my order is coming through though. what about the telephone? cw007 10-14-2003, 04:05 AM I am informed that Mazda use IBM kit..... says it all dont it :) ahh holding breath for letter this week............. ARG!!!!! ive just suffocated. thud!!!! PaulC 10-14-2003, 06:21 AM I got my delivery date yesterday - 16th November ...... a Sunday :-( Titanium Grey 10-14-2003, 07:29 AM Paul is that, 'Date to Dealer', or 'Date to you'? RobDickinson 10-14-2003, 07:33 AM I think the 9/11/16 dates are dates the cars are in uk/at dealers from ro-ro. It'll be at least dealer PDI before then, and prehaps transport from kent? (ro-ro from holland). AndyPearce 10-14-2003, 09:09 AM Originally posted by Titanium Grey Paul is that, 'Date to Dealer', or 'Date to you'? I think it's 'Date in the country' :( My dealer is convinced that this is the date that the cars will arrive in port in the UK. Looking at the evidence of how many people have had the 16th as the date I think it makes more sense that a big shipment is arriving from Rotterdam at that date. You then have to factor in the time to get them all on a transporter and PDI'd. I would have expected to see some slight variation in dates if the cars were arriving in the UK earlier than that date because I find it unlikely that all of the car transporters will be loaded and on the road to all arrive on the same day at various locations around the country. I find it even more unlikely that Mazda have done the logisitcs of this exercise to give the dealers a specific date for arrival at the dealership rather than in the country - I just about give them credit for the ability to predict when a couple of ships are arriving from Holland! cw007 10-14-2003, 09:29 AM well i guess this is down to the dealers interpetation of the facts presented to them. From what i can fathom out my dealership is upbeat that they will get the car on the 16th when i get it is some 7-10 days later. My dealership appears to have 8 cars allocated with VIN numbers . Edo 10-14-2003, 09:48 AM If dealers arent getting cars till the 16th, I rekon they will struggle to achieve delivery for everyone in November - or am I a sceptic? Ed RX-Late 10-14-2003, 09:58 AM My dealer believes that the date on the system is the date they will arrive at the dealership. Can't wait. Anyone get this today? Sexy Rexy 10-17-2003, 07:08 AM NO - they are just full of sh*t at Mazda, no point complaining though - we have not got very far with the other promises they have broken. I am just gonna sit tight, until they day my dealer rings me and says my car is ready for collection - even though it may be some time this centuary. I know one thing, I will never ever be purchasing anything from Mazda again after the 8. cw007 10-17-2003, 07:18 AM Rexy, Mazda cars are very reliable and good. The experience we all share with regards to the 8 is nothing to do with the car its the administration that warrants looking into. Yes Mazda UK could have handled the PR side of things better we all and Mazda do as well acknowledge that they cocked up on that front. I felt the same way but i was informed that when the SLK came out for Mercedes some years ago the experience was 10 times worse than us. My wife drives a 323 Mazda which she bought when i put deposit down on the 8. Can see the whole experience was easy simple and very efficent. The problem here is that the car and the marketing was outside the control of the Mazda UK. They could have informed us better but it wouldnt ultimately made any difference. I would describe the analogy of the "ostreich with its head in the sand" would describe Mazda UK PR department, hoping it would go away. All i can say is that is not been a pleasant experience and hope they learn from it in the future. Edo 10-17-2003, 08:18 AM I only hope the experience my girlfriend has just had selling her 323 doesn thappen to the 8.. One year old 323 gxi which she paid about 11.5k for, after 10,000 miles and 12 months, has only gone for 6.1k in trade in.pathetic Edo 10-17-2003, 08:21 AM PS. Compare that with my 2 year old TT which I just sold for 81% of it's original price (30k on the clock). mikegwyer 10-17-2003, 08:30 AM Originally posted by Jon H Anyone get this today? Not making excuses for Mazda, but wasn't there another 24 hour postal strike of some sort in London yesterday ? I thought that was why Anil's reply from Jeremy Thompson wasn't expected till the weekend... AnilS 10-17-2003, 08:42 AM Mike thats correct. Lets see what tomorrow brings. Technically I should receive 2 letters, but whats the chances that they'll contridict each other. On another note. If Mazda knew in, say, June that the 8s would not be ready until November, I'd have cancelled. I only hope Mazda are man enough and learn from this (self-inflicted) PR nightmare. AnilS. RobDickinson 10-17-2003, 08:47 AM Honesly I would have loved the car for the summer, I'm realy hating driving my focus round now (I test drove a few cars and would have bought an MX-5 for the summer had I known of the delays). Only real condition me and my wife mentaly placed on the deal is we have to have the car before christmas. Looks like early/mid nov. Were kinda busy then but will fit it in :) Mazda are lucky there isnt anything directly comparable for the money otherwise they would have lost at least one sale. Edo 10-17-2003, 08:50 AM Rob, thats exactly waht I told Mazda Uk and my dealer. RX-Late 10-17-2003, 08:58 AM Over a Barrel? First things first. A "barrel" is (as the Oxford English Dictionary puts it) "A cylindrical wooden vessel, generally bulging in the middle and of greater length than breadth, formed of curved staves bound together by hoops, and having flat ends or heads; a cask." Our English word "barrel" is rooted in the 12th century Old French word "baril," but since no one knows where "baril" came from, we'll have to consider this another case of our old pal "origin unknown." To "have someone over a barrel" means to have someone in your complete control, to hold them in a helpless position (as in "The draconian policies of the HMO had my family over a barrel"). Oddly enough, "over a barrel" comes from a far more benevolent context than its current use would suggest. Before better methods for resuscitation were developed, drowning victims were laid over a barrel, which was then rolled back and forth to dislodge the water in their lungs. "Over a barrel" had appeared in the U.S. by the 1930s, and the first recorded usage of the phrase was actually a pun. In "The Big Sleep" (1939), Raymond Chandler wrote, "We keep a file on unidentified bullets nowadays. Some day you might use that gun again. Then you'd be over a barrel." (The use of "barrel" to mean the cylindrical part of a gun through which the bullet travels dates back to 1648.) oilman 10-17-2003, 10:41 AM Thanks for the English lesson RX8Late.;) Cheers Oilman RX-Late 10-17-2003, 01:44 PM Originally posted by oilman Thanks for the English lesson RX8Late.;) Cheers Oilman Just seemed so apt. mr_digital_uk 10-17-2003, 02:05 PM And I thought having someone over a barrel meant one of the participants was "being screwed"!?!?! Quite apt, but obviously not historically correct. |
