I was driving to work last monday when a box truck decided to merge into the side of me. Tore off the driver's side mirror, bent up the fender, scratched the front driver's side rim, and scraped both passenger's side rims on the curb. No personal damage other than my broken heart. Estimate was just under $4000.

Replace fender, 3 rims, door handle and possibly front panel as well.

Repaint the entire driver's side, hood, and front panel.

Very sad. Even worse, the truck driver didn't want to accept responsibility, but I eventually got that sorted out.

Brighter side? I get a deal on debadging and it looks like I am the owner of 3 'gently used' rims. Besides a few asthetic scratches (as if you banged the curb parallel parking) they are in fine shape. Its amazing how malleable they are though. I'm going to keep one as a spare and put it at my parents house (since most flats are close to home and it would save me a lot of roadside troubles). I'm going to offer the other 2 up for whoever is interested in a spare once I get them back (PM). I think the car should be good as new and back in my hands in 2 weeks time.

Very sad indeed. I miss my baby.

That's rough, man. Sounds like there's reason to be optimistic about the eventual outcome, however, even though you'll have to wait two weeks.

What kind of a lame excuse could the truck driver possibly come up with to justify why he wasn't at fault?

I am so sad for you. At least it can all be brought back to its original beauty. I had the same thing almost happen today when a SUV almost sideswiped me. It took me more than an hour to get over my desire to strangle the driver! I hope you are feeling better.

sorry man. it will all work out though. i had some guy almost change lanes right into me the other day but saw me at the last second. i flew by him and he put his hand up to say sorry. i also think cell phones are a big problem with drivers. very distracting. everybody i see on the road has one jammed up their ear.

He said we were sitting stationary in traffic and that I tried to "squeeze by him on the shoulder"

So I sent his insurance company this picture of the scene of the accident (the impact was right at the bottom of the picture about 15 after the driveway) and said "if I could 'squeeze by' a truck of this size with that little shoulder to work with, I think I still deserve for you to pay to fix my car, cause I would be a magician for being able to fit it in that space." She caught my drift and realized her driver told an erroneous tale.

Pictures are worth 1000 words.

I am really impressed with the build of the 8 so far. It seemed sketchy putting on some of the aftermarket pieces seeing that all the body paneling is held on with tabs and screws, but it really is well built from what I can tell. Hopefully I won't test that any further than this past mishap.

mazda made this car, bullet proff as in built structure, the body is so rigid, and strong. I just hope the engine is bullet proof... as in age wise.

its good nothing happend in the engine department.. or else it would take so long to fix.

I had a gravel truck back into me one time in my Ranger. I was lucky and did minimal damage.
