View Full Version : Lowest Price for RX8
alphapenguin 10-12-2003, 07:09 PM What's the lowest price and out the door price they have been able to get? I know in ohio they are willing to easily give $500 off the MSRP, but they're being pricks about n e thing more.
My dad never has paid MSRP for a car yet. He usually gets it for invoice or under. Except our CLK. My brother's '93 TT RX7 he got a hell of a deal back in the day.
I'm just curious as to what the fair price these days are. Thanks.
Magnesium 10-12-2003, 07:16 PM A good price is determined by how you feel after the purchase.
Texagi95 10-12-2003, 10:17 PM I got my 8 for 1500 under sticker. It was a raining Saturday, and the dealership only sold 2 cars all day. Showed up around 6:00PM and told them what I wanted. They initially was 500 under, when I turned and walked away, the sales manager said, "I'm going to sell you a car today!!" and 15 min. later, it was $1500 under sticker. I think I got a great deal.

Especially after you compare notes with all your buds over on the RX-8 forum. :D
alphapenguin 10-13-2003, 04:31 PM Where did you get your 8? here in ohio, the dealers seem a bit too proud to let the car go for too much below MSRP. 1500$ is definitely not bad at all. What specs do you have on the car? Thanks a bunch. Depending on what dealer give the best deal, we may either end up with a Z4 or an RX8. Lets hope the mazda dealer is willing to budge. THANKS
mikeb 10-13-2003, 07:35 PM wow 1500 under
good job
Texagi95 10-13-2003, 10:34 PM Thanks, I think I got a great deal. I'm here in Houston TX. I don't know about the dealerships in Ohio........
Here is my RX-8 Purchase story:
I showed up the Friday before, (it was raining then) right before the dealership closed. Around 8:50pm. Gave the sales person my name and phone number and told them I'd be in first thing Saturday morning.
Woke up Saturday, and let the sales person call me. He called me 4 times. 3 times was a hang-up, and the 4th he left a message (around 2:30pm). Never called him back.
Showed up at the Dealership around 6:30pm. (drizzling bad!!!) and pulled my "Sorry so late, been real busy today (yea watching college football) So are you ready to deal??" routine.
I said so how much are you willing to let it go for, he said $500 under sticker. I replied with "Thats all the discount you are going to give me?? I'd thought you wanted to sell me a car today, well thanks for wasting my time, and started walking." routine.
He stopped me and of course, asked the magic question "If the deal is right, would you buy today???" I said ""wouldn't be here if I wasn't going to buy, I don't play games" And he said "We've only sold 2 cars all day, and I'm going to sell you that car today!!!!!"
He came back and before he told me what the numbers were he said, "the number I'm going to give you is NON-Negotiable, If we can't see eye to eye, we can't do business." He wrote something down on a piece of paper and slid it to me. BINGO $1,500 off sticker. I said SOLD....
The rest is history.........:D :D :D
alphapenguin 10-13-2003, 10:48 PM thanks! I dunno if I can pull off that routine, but $1500 off is the way to go. I hate talkin to the dealers, because I dont want to be rude to them. I mean they're kinda like people too haha.
Once I get rid of my current car, we'll see what I can do on the 8.
THanks for the info!

This is a great deal, but I have a question. What else did he charge you for? I have seen add ons that are way overpriced, dealer inspections, discount books etc that can add up to an extra $1,000.
I even saw a $295 tire inspection fee at an Acura dealer the other day!!
Texagi95 10-14-2003, 06:31 PM It was directly off of the sticker price. There were no dealer add-on's.

wahoo 10-14-2003, 10:59 PM I did a similar thing when I bought my last car. After two test drives, I returned to the dealership to deal. It was the end of month on a weekday, and it was raining. I told them that I was ready to "buy today", and the price I wanted. I added that any other offer might be a good offer, but that I would need time to think about it.
They made a good "final offer", but not close to my price. I politely said thank you and started to leave. In about 5mins they matched my price with no add-ons or other closing problems.
I was fully expecting to go home without a new car that day, which helped me tremendously. You gotta be prepared to walk. Sometimes, they will let you walk, but if they can make a profit on your offer, expect a call in a few days.
I don't consider myself a good dealer, but if you stick to the basics it can work. Know what their invoice cost is, deal on a slow night/week/month, and be prepared to leave.

mikeb 10-16-2003, 02:31 PM congrats
that deal seems pretty good
enjoy the car
alphapenguin 10-18-2003, 03:57 PM I just got my RX8 a few hrs ago in Ohio from Ricart Mazda. Got $500 over invoice. If you live around the area, they are actually having a sale for $750 over invoice on any RX8.
Specs: GT, NAv, spare tire kit (didnt really want it), Cargo Tray (didnt want that either).
Sunlight Silver
Red and Black interior
6 CD changer (didnt really need that either)
this was the only one that had a GT Silver, Black and red int, with nav, but hell, only 500 over invoice.
I forsee if I waited till nov or Dec, i bet we can get these cars for invoice and under. THe Ricart dealership here is having the sale, cause they are getting another truck load of them in, and they need to get rid of them. Supply and demand! Good luck to you who havent gotten them yet, and I hope you get an awesome deal.
I am gonna go drive around now.
supa-gee 10-25-2003, 07:12 PM I purchase mine for $600 over invoice... just start at cars.com and get quotes from dealers in all areas you are willing to drive to save a few bucks. I emailed dealers from CT to NC and got at least 5 "offers of 500-700 over invoice via email. It's a little risky when you think of the "bait and switch" game some dealer will pull on folks, but I saved $1300-$1800 by making that 3 hour drive. Well worth it IMO:)
bird_owl 10-26-2003, 12:52 AM just got my RX-8 for $500 over invoice in Almaden Mazda San Jose, CA. Their Internet Manager Duke sent me message with exact price. at 3PM I was there. at 5PM I left dealership on my new car :) very nice and smooth transaction. much better then my previous experience with Mazda dealers...
BTW, Duke told me he is on vacation next week and wants to sell as many RX-8's as possible. Hurry up! :)
alphapenguin 10-26-2003, 01:09 AM I think they are having trouble selling them now. SOon I bet under invoice is possible.:-D ENJOY THE 8s! I SURE AM!
mikeb 10-26-2003, 06:26 PM in tustin they are still 35,899 for gt with nav and appreance package
Rexor 10-26-2003, 09:35 PM A dealer in the LA times today is advertising a loaded one with Nav for $4000 under MSRP.
mngpao 10-27-2003, 07:47 AM Foothills Mazda in Spokane is advertising a base Titanium AT for $23995 (including a $500 recent college grad rebate). If you're not a recent grad, the price is $24495.
I already have a Winning Blue AT with the GT package but was looking at what they had on their lot. They still have about 10 but only the one at the advert price.
It may be worth a phone call (or even a trip there) for those who are interested.
DefBringer 10-31-2003, 02:18 PM The local dealer here will drop price big time on anything but the most loaded cars. Unfortunately, 8 out of their 10 cars have Nav and GT!! So they're basically moving ZERO cars. Sunflower Mazda in Olathe, KS.
I don't want to make you all angry... I paid the "S" price for mine, so unless you work for Ford I got you all beat =P.
BTW the S price is a corporate perk price if you work for a company that does lots of buisness with Ford, only the Ford employee price is a better deal.
I didn't even know that the S pricing was available for the Austin area until the sales manager told me. At that point there is no haggaling, the price is set. Invoice +$200 or so is what I paid.
alphapenguin 10-31-2003, 04:12 PM just wait till the new year, i am sure they will go below invoice.
Rotary Nut 11-03-2003, 09:54 PM I paid $24999 for a Sunlight silver with Automatic and the sport pkg.
Rotary Nut 11-03-2003, 09:57 PM [i]6 CD changer (didnt really need that either)

Trade ya my single disc for your changer!!

MT Grand Touring Package

Thanks for the great web site f1 tech. This helps a whole lot!
-=Zeqs=- 11-18-2003, 12:53 AM BTW Guys...all those prices...are they out the door prices or just the cost for car before everything else is computed in?
Thanks
Kaliken 11-18-2003, 02:41 PM Sounds like some of you guys are getting very very good deals. I am beginning to wonder if I can do better than the S-Plan. I am looking at something very similar to yours Rotary Nut. Comparing prices you did better than the S-plan by about 300 bucks and 500 bucks better than Invoice! WOW!
Also can you guys give some values on your out the door price and the extended warranty? As I am not too sure how much TTL and fees come out to be and would like some information.
arrestmeyellow 11-18-2003, 04:06 PM I got a Yellow RX8 Sport Package and Naivgation for 28K FLAT!! at Riverside MAZDA. I basically got the navigation for free!
G8rboy 11-18-2003, 04:42 PM Hi everyone... been lurking for a while, but I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on the RX8. I've had a Miata for 5+ years, and the '8 is the first car under $30k that I would consider to replace my '96M-Edition. Anyway, when reading this thread I remembered that my company has a partnership with Ford, so I looked into pricing discounts and found out I can get the Ford Employee pricing (Mazda S-Plan), which brings the price down over $3300 for the fully loaded RX-8 I'm looking for (GT, appearance package, NAV, and other stuff). I'm still not sold on getting the NAV, but regardless, this gives me some incentive to jump into a new '8 in the next week or so.
So, thanks for whoever brought up the S-Plan pricing and made me look into that (and if you work for Motorola, look into it yourself!).
-Sean
Kaliken 11-18-2003, 05:35 PM The S-Plan pricing was the thing that made the RX-8 a viable option. Otherwise it would have been completely out of my price range. Though its still pushing on my 28K limit! I wish you luck on your purchase! Hopefully we'll be rotoring soon!
alphapenguin 11-18-2003, 10:53 PM what is an S-plan?

S-Plan pricing is Mazda's employee (or Ford Employee) pricing- it's a small percentage over invoice price.

MARYDOLL 11-18-2003, 11:36 PM Damn too bad Im not a Mazda/Ford employrr =(
Kaliken 11-19-2003, 12:03 AM its not only for Ford Employees.. its also for employees of companies that are Ford Suppliers or Partners. I would check with your company to see if you qualify!
Boss_429 11-20-2003, 09:21 AM Hello all,
I'm planning on becoming a rotary nut within the next 2 months.
I've read many posts about the S-Plan, my question is, With dealerships that are willing to sell at Dealer Invoice now which is cheaper, that or S-plan?
Thanks
Texas 8 11-20-2003, 11:39 AM I don't know about what people are actually paying. But I have been checking KBB and Edmunds every week or so. Today, Edmunds has their "TMV" price for 6sp base @ $26,054. That's only $875 above invoice. Over the last few weeks it has been consistently dropping. Good for me, considering I will be in the market real shortly. Which, by the way, I can say the wait is excruciating. Texas 8
