Is there a good aftermarket shop on the front range that sells body kits? I had someone back into my car while the valet was parking it. I was thinking about taking the insurance money and buying a body kit. Recommendations welcome.

Can't help with finding any places. Might want to contat Racing Trenz or Street Concepts and see if they can get you a kit. Try Vividracing.com or some other shop in Cali. Probaly your best bet.

Look through Japanparts.com if you're not sure what kit you want. They have pictures of nearly every kit made or the 8.

How bad is your front bumper?

Not bad. Ding about the size of a grapefruit.

Oh. Well the insurance may just find it cheaper to buy a new Bumper Cover so you might want to get a kit with it. I garauntee you're gonna bee looking at over 1k to get the damaged fixed. I used my insurance money when I hit a guy that passed a red light and when some backed into my 8. I got a body kit and graphics with it. This last time I got a whole new paint job and new side skirts. I <3 insurance.

This is what mine looked like. Not bad for side swiping someone @ about 30MPH. That was the only damage beside some scuff marks on the headlight.

Hello Colorado RX8'ers.

My name is Angelo and i used to have an 05 8SE. Sorry to admit this but i had to let her go...yes i do miss her.

Anyway, just before i traded in the rx i picked up a set of Goodyear Eagle (EMT i think) tires. They are 275 35 18 and trust me they will fit your stock sport suspension. They are in my way now so i was wondering if any local rx8 guys wanted to pick up a set of used tires before the summer gets here. They have great tread on them and would last at least two summers of hard mountain driving (thats how i drove my rx). I would like to get the $100.00 i paid for them back since they are a great tire and worth much more.

I was in Denver 2 years ago and never saw any 8's at all! I see many here in Salt Lake, and Denver is like four times bigger. Weird.

Hi ppl. I havent been on in a while (been in iraq since july) and missing my 8. I was home in April and got a Kenwood Dnx 6960 installed with Boston acoustics and an Alpine 4 Channel amp. (Pix up soon) Ill be in Colorado from July 17th -August 17th. I live in the Westminster Area if any of you want to meet up :)

Sonic meets are usually every Sunday around 6:30 PM. Sonic in Green Mountain off Alameda and Union. Those have been going of for a month or so again. Weather Pending of course.


We also do the Sonic on 96th-ish and Federal. Think those are Fridays but not sure if they started up again. We like the Green Mountain spot cause we can head to the hills and cruise the twisties.

My 8 was undrivable and had to work that day. :( It sucked Mike really sucked. By undrivable I mean I would get pulled over for noise restrictions.

Ah I should have mentioned that. Seems most if not all of the 8's that are on the CMZC forum are all in the springs and most all on military/airforce bases. Hence I don't see them since I'm in denver.

is anybody goin to the car shows this weekend? there is the first saturdays one by the imax in front of dicks starts at 730am stage your car between 630 and 730. Then there is one at mr biggs from 10 to 12. Dont have alot of info on that one it would be nice to meet up i am new to the site and area around here.

My blasted sun visor broke Friday!! I just picked it up at the dealer this morning. Cost me $238 for a piece of holy plastic. Thanks Mazda. I told the dealer it looks like Mazda did a cost savings here and went all plastic. To try and make me feel better he said they replaced one visior on a Nissan last week and it cost $465. My extended warranty is not in their computer database so that is really helpful. So now I will not use a window shade and the windows will be lowered down some. They were when the visor failed too. Mine is an 04 with 22,000 on it. Going to be in the 90s all thsi week. My car gets to stay in the garage after this expense. Still can't believe this.

I live in Fort Collins, and just bought a 2009 MT Silver RX-8. It is only a Sport model, but I really like the car and get lots of compliments on it. It had close to 15K on it. Had to pop a few door dings out of it (paintless dent repair). The guy did a great job and the exterior now looks like new, after I used a clay bar and then waxed it. The interior was in good shape except for quite a few scratches. I would have thought it would have been close to new condition, being only a year old. I guess some people just don't take much pride in their cars appearance. A couple of carbon fiber overlays worked well on covering up the scratches on the silver trim pieces on the front sides of the center console. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself.

I realize this topic has been beat to death on other threads, but I feel we are kind of unique being more than 5000 ft. above sea level. Do you guys always use premium? RX-8 owners in other states talk about 91, 93 octane. 89 is the highest I can usually find around here. It seems like I have read in other places that lower octane is okay at high altitude. At least for now, I'm not that concerned about the price difference. Might care more if gas should ever approach $4.00 or more. Anyway, I was just wondering if any of you use 87 with no problems. I would kind of doubt we would have pinging issues at this altitude. Maybe if it was really hot out.

There can't be more than a handful of RX-8s here in Fort Collins. Haven't seen another one yet. I really like the fact you don't see too many of them.

Have owned mine for about a month now. Have to laugh how all the kids on the playground stare when I drop my daughter off at her elementary school in the morning. "That's your Dad's car?!" is what one boy said to her.

That drive is hella fun actually. Especially in the canyons up at Glenwoods Springs, they are pure win in our cars. There are a few more sick ass runs in Utah too but you have to go a little slower there. Utah highway patrol can be Nazis.

Yeah the Mountains is what I fear at the moment. I need to sort out my overheating issues with a griffin radiator. With all that extra power the heat needs somewhere to go.

What's going on with your RX-8. And I have no idea of any good Rotary Mechanics at all. Besides the dealership of course. They send out a special tech for us if they don't have one in shop.

Thats weird - My 8 was having problems too O_o The 2nd gear synchros when out after i put some Royal Purple in my transmission ... My warranty coverd it and im getting my 8 back on Wednesday :)

Hello! Just wanted to put in my first post! I just got my 8 a couple of days ago and so far so good! I traded in an 06 Legacy GT for it, which we'll see how well it works out this winter. It does have brand new Blizzaks on it though, so its a start at least! Well, hope to see some of you out and about at some point!

We moved out to the Springs back in Summer 2009, and we love it. I highly recommend looking into the Rockrimmon area of town, the northwest area of the Springs, just south of the Academy. Great area, and what we would describe as closer to "real Colorado living" -- mountains, hills, trees, rock spires, lots of open space, wildlife... older homes, but solid (ours was built in 1978). Essentially go west on Woodmen Rd from I-25, the interchange is one exit south of Acadmey Blvd.

Good advice. I'd stay north of Platte. The farther north along Powers, prolly the better.

The swath that runs along the hills and ridge line north-south between Academy & Powers has some good neighborhoods and places. These are generally older neighborhoods, even some horse properties. The older properties tend to have larger lots and the homes are solid & have a little more character. Many, like ours, need some improvements, of course ;)

I'm not really a fan of all the huge development that's taken place over the past ten years or so on the other side of Powers -- the east side. Some nice places, but the tract houses are just NOT for us. These are really popular with military (USAF) working at either Peterson AFB (only a couple miles away) or Schriever AFB (about 12 miles east).

This year a rotary show will be held in the parking area adjacent to the Meet & Greet. There will be several categories depending upon the cars registered prior to the event. Repus, old school, 7s and 8s will be judged separately. 7s may be broken up into first, second and third gen vehicles if preregistration shows a sufficient number. All rotary cars will be eligible for trophies. Cut off for the judging will be 7:30pm

SCENIC CRUSE

We will have a short cruise to Red Rock and it will take less than 30 minutes to get there and there is a paved, 13 mile, one-way scenic drive (open from dawn to dusk), within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area boundaries. There is a fee for using this road of less than $10.00 (should be $7.00 but you know the park service). Very Scenic, very twisty and a good place to say good by to Las Vegas. The end of the loop is within 5 miles of the express way in case you are leaving after the cruise

Orleans is providing an area that will be watched very closely in the West Parking Garage. We will be parking in the area where the executives of the Hotel park. It is well patrolled and the cameras do work. Security is planning on having a foot patrol thru the parking area along with random vehicle patrols.

I just moved to Pueblo from Eugene, OR. I drive an 05 Shinka that I have owned for just over a year now. I received a refurbished 07 engine just before I left Oregon under warranty. My car has 50000 miles on it (new engine has 1k) and I have yet to go to a track. Everything is stock besides a ACT Prolite flywheel and stage 1 clutch. Something I noticed right after I took my car off the Auto transport was the reduced power at lower RPMs. Damn the high altitude =/
I used some formula for HP loss at high altitudes, according to the formula I lost 30 hp moving to Pueblo. Shucks...

According to Jeff (MazdaManiac) your car will automatically correct itself for altitude over time so you won't have any power loss. *shrug*

I think right around 12 pm would be the target time.

To get there, if you're on the Diagonal highway, turn left on 63rd Street, and then drive on it past the IBM facility on the right to the first 4 way stop. Turn left, and keep going. The road will snake 90 degrees right, and then 90 degrees left around a farm. Keep going straight, and the road will go down then up a hill, and the Trail Head will be on the left in a big open field.

If your on the Highway 36 side, take it heading towards Lyons, and just turn right at the sign for Neva Road. It zigs and zags a bit to the right, and the Trail Head is on the right side of the road nearly at the end of the big open field.

If you see a black RX8 with a temp tag in the rear window doing Mach 2, that's me. ;)

Bought mine on March 19th.
Just received the notice to go to the County place to get plates for it.
But, they don't tell you how much to bring, which is always wonderful.

Oh, and I just remembered that I might have Jury Duty on Monday.

If you have to pay that much, something is seriously wrong. You should be paying in the neighborhood of $300 for tags. Maybe the person that told you that was thinking taxes included, but since you already own it, you wont have to pay that extra money.

That's what I get for accidentally scheduling a fun drive on the same day that Jefferson County wants me to come and spend some time being a member of their jury.

And our crazy Colorado weather cut the drive way short.
Get part of the way up, and have the snow just start coming down with enthusiasm is both cool, and wild.

Just got back from the Left Hand ride with Bladecutter. And of course CO weather changed at the last minute, it was still great though. First real drive iv taken with my car... I thought i really liked it before, just daily driving, but man thats the stuff right there. Cruising through the turns in the, that is what its all about.
I had a 2003 Raptor 660, that thing was quick and was my first motor passion (i was 14 or 15) and iv driven motorcycles and on both you feel like your Connection with the road, but the 8 is way better. I felt spoiled, because i had that feeling of connection and thrill, and the hard pull out of the turn, except i also had heated leather and warm air and a cold Rockstar. I am 100% in love with this car now. :score:

Ok, Im done now. :)

Wait until you get a chance to try that road on a dry day, with no traffic in front of you. And that's just the beginning of the road, too.

There are other, way better roads kicking around the area, too.

Magnolia and Sugarloaf are also nice runs, and they are offshoots of Boulder Canyon. 4 mile Canyon is a nice drive also.

Go a bit further south along the Foothills, and there is Coal Creak Canyon, keep going further south, and you then have Golden Gate Canyon, and Lookout Mountain. That's the one if you want a killer quick fix.

Going North, and you have Highway 7 from the Peak to Peak all the way down into Lyons. That's a nice run early on a weekend when its just you and the motorcyclists.

Lots of great roads.

Its funny because cars have always been my hobby, but it was usually just the custom and modding. This car is going to be something wayyyy different. I thought i wanted to go FI, i don't think i want to, at-least not for a while any way. The other cars i had, i didnt actually get to enjoy them like i think im going to this one, I lived in NNY and had a Jetta before this, and it was pretty snappy with the turbo. It doesnt even come close to this though. Im so excited to start getting some parts in this though, Im thinking Intake, BHR ignition, Cobb, and an exhaust and ill be happy for a good while. :D:

Oh- by the way. We were about back to the trail head when i realized something a little funny, i had my radio off the whole time, and didn't notice because i was so into the sound of the engine.

Best thing about riding a motorcycle is that there's no radio, just engine noises.

Was cool to see a rx8 dragging locally. I am really looking forward to the track being repaved, I hope to try the 2.2 mile road course out soon. See you there?

lol That was me!!! It was my first time drag racing and I just wanted to see what my car could do. I was expecting around 15.5 to 16. My best time ended up being a 16.006. My first run was really embarrassing. I ran a 17.2 lol. But ya I saw a gray RX-8 just spectating I think. Was that you? and ya I'm really looking forward to running the track sometime this summer.

Ran into an 8 on my way out of town on Sat on I25N...I believe the plate was "EMS PLT". Unless you normally are an autoxer you should probably invest in a rear wheel alignment. It looked like your rear camber was way off from where it should be.

I saw a red series II at BurgerKing today in Gunbarrell, never seen it before though. Im assuming your going to Penkus, which one though (Woodman or Motor City). Had my engine tested at Woodman last month and failed compression but they wont touch it until I get a new cat and get rid of the CEL im getting.

I went to motor city and diane was my service rep. You must have a mid pipe. Better go to U pull or dons sports car salvage in pueblo and pay for a used cat and and get a free engine. Good luck! When you get her runnin hit me up!

Hey I was wondering if there are any other 8 owners in the Canon City area. I saw a black or black cherry RX-8 on highway 50 and turning on 9th Street yesterday. It had the plate in the window and it sounded like an aftermarket exhaust. I've seen many other 8's around town and I'm surprised that no one is on the forums. But maybe I can't find anyone lol

Oh it was a great event that the IndyRX8 guys put on. Unfortunately lack of interest and the amount of work that they put into it has made it so they didn't host it this year. :( In 2009 though we had a caravan heading to the event that was 30 deep heading from Dayton to Indianapolis. Unfortunately for me I guess, you guys seem a little more loose knit then we are up here in Cleveland. There for a while we were meeting monthly with 10 - 15 RX8s regularly attending. We would do things from just going out to dinner for some fun, to ripping apart a part out car, to doing parts installs for others.

Yeah it had a midpipe on it when I bought it, put a Mangnaflow cat on it but the CEL came back. Saving up to get a DaveSport cat because everyone says that one doesn't through a code or maybe even the cat midpide from the RX7 store.

Cant wait to get the engine swapped so I can play again.

You might try the spark plug fouler mod for the o2 sensor it might hide your CEL long enuf to get your new engine approved. It took my boys away for like 300mi. Slvrmzdrx8..... your right we need to get something going before summer time is gone....

I'd let ya borrow my OEM CAT Ender if I was out there but I'm still having house hunting problems. Heck...I know a bunch of people out here that would be willing to loan you one just so you could take it in...even some with bad ones that would be willing to let you borrow it for the chance of getting a new one. Where's the support of the club out in Colorado? Anyways...8ya is right...a fowler might just do enough for you to get rid of the CEL long enough for them to get you a new engine.

I currently live just East of Cleveland and am going to be transferring to Colorado Springs for work as soon as I can find a place. So far the banking system has not been my friend. The first house I found in Peyton in March fell through after the bank wanted more for the house than the asking price in a Short Sale. And a couple weeks bad I bid on a foreclosure in Briargate with an amazing view to find out that the bank would not permit an inspection prior to sale. Should be out there again in a couple weeks to do this little dance all over again.

It kills me that my baby is limping along right now. I would love to get more involved and maybe do some meets but I don't to be the slow kid that everyone's stuck waiting for.

With that being said, if anyone has an oem cat in the Springs or Colorado I can borrow just to get through testing and engine replacement I would be great full.

It had a test pipe on it when I bought it. I had a magnaflow cat with a new O2 sensor about a month ago, got a CEL about 5 mins after it was done. Reset the CEL and it came back. Saving up to put a Davesport cat, that one is verified on the board for no CEL, or the cat midpipe from the Rx7 store. The midpipe wouldn't be the problem would it?

Im not 100% sure but a couple months back I got a few little things from dons sports car they only do salvage of sports cars if they don't have it they could tell you the next best place.

My car is now in the shop for a bad o2 censor p0171... went down to woodman Nissan where i bought the car and thew a fit and now they are gunna pay for it. Ender I would help you out but my wife would flip if if I pulled my cat off my car..sry man good luck

Hi, I am planning on coming to Colorado in a few weeks and I was just wondering if you guys have seen those mobile emissions testing vans anywhere? I want to try and avoid those areas as much as possible lol. I know there used to be one all the time at i-70 and kipling in arvada when I lived there a few years ago.

I don't know if they have any type of power to get an out-of-state vehicle in trouble for emissions but I would rather not find out.

Ok back finally, been very busy this summer and have had several issues with my 8 already, but thats all sorted.

Hopefully gonna have some free time coming up on the weekends if you all have been doing stuff.

Also, are any of you good with car audio? My 8 came with an aftermarket system, that has just stopped working, and I am stumped :wallbash:, even for an IT guy lol

They don't have any power over a vehicle without out of state plates.
Most of the time, they barely have any power over vehicles with CO plates.

Don't worry about it at all.
They don't send out tickets, or anything like that.

All they do is capture a plate number, and record the emmisions levels associated with it. If the plate isn't a CO plate, then the info is dumped. If the vehicle was accelerating too quickly, the info is dumped, regardless of state.

If they actually get info from a van, and the vehicle is within 10 months of registration renewal, they then need 2 Passing certs from a drive by test to no longer need to go to an emissions testing facility to renew their registration.

Thing is, you can defeat the system really easily.
Just put your plate on ANY vehicle that is cleaner, and drive by two vans on the same day, and you're set.

Well I finally got the call this week that my house went through so I should be out there by the end of the month permanently. Of note...when I got the call on Monday i was on the Cherohala Skyway and ran into a guy formerly from Colorado Springs. He said that the Cherohala Skyway and Tail of the Dragon were nice...but didn't compare to what you can find around the Springs. So the gauntlet was put down...yall got some big shoes to fill!

Do you guys have any places out there with similar setups as I really do like this free top off every two weeks?

There was a white RX8 the previous Monday just screaming down the Diagonal heading into Boulder at 9am, doing everything he could to get through traffic.

That would have been Aug 8th.

I was leaving work after an hour at IBM, and just wasn't feeling good, and watched as this white rx8 came flying down the temporary right lane to get around traffic just as I was about the merge onto the Diagonal.

RX8 got off at the Foothills Parkway/Diagonal split heading into North Boulder on Iris.

So, anyone here willing to admit to being speedy gonzales?

I just got back to vegas from my colorado trip, saw a few rx8s in colorado but not sure if its anyone here. Saw one I think it was silver but not sure, first 3 letters of the license plate were "TEZ" that was on the 225 in horrible traffic. Saw a green one on the 16th or 17th going down colfax as well.

I was over in aurora near buckley a lot on my trip, surprised I didn't see you sarriaga. I was mostly near tower & mississippi.

I will be purchasing a 2006 Brilliant Black Shinka next weekend. Really excited to own the car. It is a bit overwhelming trying to figure out where I want to go with the car. My "plan" is to try to leave it alone for a year or so, then start modding it. But we will see if I have that amount of self control.

Anyways, how many strong are we in Colorado? Any meets planned? I'd love to organize something, especially if there are more members in CO than my last car club.

Well I live by 6th and centertech by cca but i see alot of 8s beaing sold at gateway mazda they had 4 or 5 around and they all seem to have been sold over the last month or so

We're lone wolves, scouting our territory.
When we spot another RX-8 in our territory, we start doing massive burnouts, donuts, and power slides to scare them out of our territory.

Eventually, we chase them up or down the nearest canyon until they vanish off in the distance, which usually takes a good long time, because both cars are equally great in the twisties.

So, its better that we stay alone, otherwise things can get fun, oops, I mean hairy.
