View Full Version : Just got my 8...what an eyecatcher!
noahprtlnd 10-11-2003, 04:12 PM I picked up my car with my girlfriend, and then drove over to the local BMW dealership to pick up some parts for her car. I parked out front, and for the entire 20 minutes I was inside getting the parts, rotating crowds of people gathered around my new car, staring and peering in the windows!! On a lot full of high-priced 5-series, Z4's and ubiquitous 3-series, everyone including BMW employees were preoccupied with my new 8!!
Stu C 10-11-2003, 04:21 PM Some cars just do this. Others can be dressed up and have no such effect.
Congratulations on your eye catching 8.

Genom 10-11-2003, 05:43 PM I spent most of this afternoon cleaning and Zaino'ing my girls little G20. Meanwhile my 8 is sitting a few feet away covered in grime. Even so I had everybody cruising down the street stop and ask me about the car. Even the mailman wanted to see the inside of it!
I love my car :D
spdspappy 10-11-2003, 05:57 PM Sweet! Congrats! Pics...
Literatii 10-11-2003, 08:08 PM I envision this becoming a pastime. The second day I had my 8, my buddy and I went out for lunch downtown. It just so happened we were able to park right outside the restaurant. I sat down, facing the window and was able to look right out onto the car.
Honestly, out of the dozen people that walked by the car only 2 didn't stop and stare at it. One guy walked past about 4 times. A couple of suits passed it and I could tell that one of them had noticed my rotary accents on the front and back.
Four women left the restaurant and actually stood there eyeing it for 5 minutes while they had a smoke. Probably waiting to see who was going to get in it :)
I've noticed one cool thing... the tinting that I put on the windows seems to draw people in. They want to see inside but it's difficult unless they actually go right up to the glass and do the "peering manuever" with their hand.
The same day, I was at a light with heavy pedestrian traffic. Probably the funniest thing I've seen... some guy crossed in front of my 8 -- I could tell he wanted to look but didn't want to appear like a goof. He tried really hard not to look but when he got far enough across the street it was like his head refused to obey his brain and it whipped around for a good glimpse. I'm sure the guy had whiplash after that lol ;)
mikeb 10-11-2003, 10:32 PM congrats
I've had mine 2 months and still get comments everyday
VelocityRedRX8 10-11-2003, 11:26 PM I've noticed the same thing! I've had my car almost two weeks now and have no fewer than a dozen 'encounters' with strangers stopping to ask about the car. The response has been universally positive. :D
Funniest episode so far: I had a young guy stop at the house trying to sell me a Kirby vacuum cleaner. I politely refused, and he mentioned that he had seen the car in the driveway and was wondering if he could ask me some questions. About 30 minutes later he left.
I think we should all get commissions from Mazda for our hard work!
RX-Late 10-12-2003, 12:36 PM Lucky you. Hopefully my 8 will attract as much attention as yours when I get hold of it.

Heh, all I can say is: be prepared :)
goodyrx8 10-12-2003, 08:57 PM I noticed the same thing. My wife and I have eaten at this restaraunt twice since owning our RX-8. Both times when we came out we found that the valets had parked aur car out front in the company of CL55, 360 Spider, BMW 760. They told us that the valets liked our car best and it got the most attention. Imagine that, a $35k car getting the most attention amoung $100k+ cars.
layzieb36 10-12-2003, 09:05 PM I actually had a lady stop her car in-front of me on the "high way" mind you it was at a light but still on a "high way", jump out of her car, to ask me what kind of car it was, how much (i said enough to that :D ) and if she could go for a ride sometime, I was like sure she left her number, I just didn't want to let her down, I'm married and have no plans of calling her. Just glad to know at least my car got game ;) . By the way I'm 21 incase you were wondering.

eclps0 10-12-2003, 11:35 PM well 99.9% i do. A couple of times elderly people say "its a jap car damm ricerburners, american cars are better" I say well this 1.3 liter makes more horsepower than a v6 mustang and other higer displacment cars" I then tell them that if yes american cars are great but the new ones suck the older ones are better.
Ohh and with the good comments its so amazing when everybody looks at your car in amazment, even with the 50,000+ cars they have.no lie i almsot caused 10 accidents just from peopel looking at my car and not paying attenion to the road.

i couldn't agree more... "ooh and ahhs" aren't behind them either... the 8 rocks!
Kamala 10-13-2003, 05:09 PM Y'all are making me so jealous. I can't stand waiting to get this car. The only way I give people whiplash now is knocking into them with my heavy ass backpack getting off the bus.:D
mikeb 10-13-2003, 05:59 PM its worth the wait
I still havent heard anyone say anything bad about my 8 on the street YET
FamilyGuy 10-14-2003, 10:02 AM My boss's boss just got one, and it's the first time I've seen it up close. Pictures don't do it justice... what a beauty! He calls the color "Ticket Me Red".
One of my coworkers bought a silver G35 Coupe a few months ago, and it's a fantastic car. BUT the RX8 has gotten more attention in the last two days than the G35 got since June.
I couldn't afford either of them, but if I could the '8 would definitely be my first choice.

I ate at the Prime Rib in Washington DC not too long ago, threw my keys to the valet, he moved it forward about 18" and put the parking brake on before I was even in the front door of the restaurant. I asked him if he was going to park it and he said, "I just did." :D
I got so confused when I left because I didn't have a good opportunity for my tip exchange, he just threw the keys back to me.
