She just passed 700 miles tonight and I stretched her legs a little tonight on an empty freeway. She was going 120+-5 mph for about 20 seconds, she handled high speed incredibly well. Steering got tighter, engine sounded smooth, I felt the car got lower a bit (maybe it's just my imagination). There were plenty of HP left, but I held her back. I just want to share my thought with you guys. I LOVE THIS BABY! I must also state that driving at high speed is very dangerous, so drive safely!!

FYI, the MPG dropped real fast at high speed.

Sounds like fun, I know its not a contest but I was going 150mph in my vette and still had room to go faster :)

Top speed is 185 but I have no room to go that fast I came off the freeway and was doing 150 in a 45mph zone at 2am it was so great.

java do you notice any difference in your 8 perfroming better since it hit 600 miles?

Just a friendly word of advice.

one, in my state(NJ), that ticket is a loss of license for sure.

Two, I have seen a number of people, live and dead, who crashed at high speed, or were hit at that speed. None of them looked to pretty. I got to experiance it first hand, with a 80 mph MVA in 1984. Cost was 6 ribs, a punctured lung, back damage, fractured hip(2 places) and several brused internal organs, along with some neat scars! Trust me, I KNOW when it is going to rain! Not to mention my 2 week hospital stay.

My only real point here is to be careful. I would hate to see something happen to any of the nice people who post here.

Hitting 600 wont make any kind of magic switch flip. I noticed over the first 1500 miles the engine feel smoother and sound better as well as push harder, but it was a gradual thing. It still go's on to a lesser extent than when new though.

Not really, maybe the engine is a bit smoother. But I did notice my right foot got much heavier and wallet is getting lighter (result of going to gas station more often,) :) Does it suppose improve its performce after 600?

Mazda dealer was saying that before the 600 mark, it's a good idea to shift gears often while driving the car. This way the engine would get used to all range of RMP, sorta loosen up the engine.

It's very dangerous, especially at nights. I remember a close call few months ago. It was around 2 am and I was on 710 freeway with no cars in sight. The thought of paddle to the metal crossed my mind, for whatever reason I decided not to. A few seconds later, a full size sofa came out of nowhere and it blocked two middle lanes. I bearly got around it, just imagine what if I was going at 100...a scary thought.

For those people who has the need for speed (include myself). I suggest we join the local racing school. The race track's surface condition is much than the public streets and highways. Therefore we can the best performce out of our 8s. Not to mention we'll get some tips from the pros and compete with STi, Evo and others. Bottom line is don't endanger other drivers on the road and drive safely.

So.. you would make love to your car if it became a woman??? HAHA j/k

but interesting comment... how many people out there actually wish their cars would become women???

personally if my car became a woman, it would give me all th crap problems that women typically give men... why the hell would you want that?? haha

no i wouldnt. he was describing his car using the reference "she" and it almost sounded like a woman was being described not a car.

Or that their women would become cars? Gotta be careful what you ask for; I call my old Jeep "The Southern Belle" -- very high-maintenance, and dumb as a plate o' grits. We'll not even go into my Fiat relationships.

I've had my RX-8 up to 120+ twice now. Lucky me, I work the graveyard shift. No one on the freeway but me...although the straights don't seem to last more than 2-3 minutes at that speed!

It has a nice tight feel and I still had plenty of room to go. It's not as fast as my Camaro SS was, but with all my speeding tickets, it's a nice compromise!

That's really weird. Nothing magic happened for me - pretty much been hovering around 19 for the last 3000 miles.

I'm really inpressed with the 8 and it's ability to hug the road so well and balanced a speed. Now that's why I bought this car, Justification is sweet.

That's good to know, mine runs about 19 mpg now (80 highway/20 city). I noticed the car gets around 21 mpg if I drive the car around 3500 rmp at all time. But again, I didnt buy this car to drive it at 3500 at all time.

Sounds good to me... I've had my 1.8 MX-5 (Miata) at 120 a couple of times and it was not happy at all. There was still a little power left - could perhaps have hit 130 if I'd floored it for a minute or two - but the car was really starting to feel floaty and twitchy. This was on an Autoroute (toll freeway/motorway) in France in the middle of the night - empty, well-lit, high quality road surface.

Nice to hear the '8 has its high-speed aerodynamics more sorted, this feeds down to lower (legal) speeds as well of course...

I'm curious, how much fuel did it use within that 2-3 minute period?

I felt kinda weird reading it like that on the second time...:o

Caution: Ya can't do it just once if she's ready, willing & able. Don't do it all the time, just cuz she'll let you. You're taking a big risk every time you do it. Think about extra protection & doing it in the privacy of your own club track.

Side note: I'm interested that you said that the steering got tighter & she got down lower. That's real nice. (Yes, I'm talking about the RX-8 now!) Totally scary when they (other cars, of course) get loose from lift & you feel a definite lack of control just when you need it most.

you do realize that most cops don't look for drunk drivers/speeders until after 10, right? on the average, there are there are exponentially more DUIs/tickets given after 10pm than from 5am to 10pm so that is the absolute WORST time to speed
