I need all heads put together on this one because I don't know what to do. I just got my car back after about a month and a half of it being in the repair shop due to it's accident (not my fault the car was parked). Everything looks great with the paint and the new front bumper and hood. The only problem is that my headlights are facing the floor. I took it back to the shop and they said that these are sealed units and there is no way that they can level the headlight to point more forward. The problem to me is that the actual bulb (the black part with the gas that sits in the silver housing) is too low and it does not even look like its pushed all the way in, flushed with the silver housing. Is this something that is non-repairable and would require new ones or is the repair guy a moron who has no idea what he's doing? Oh and he also told me that there self-leveling and it should adjust itself, well thats not happening. I need help because well its kinda hard to see at night (which is unbelievable considering the type of headlights we have.

well.. i dont know anything about the auto-leveling system, cept that the 'brain' for it is on or near the rear axle....

BUT regardless, if your lights are not right, and the damage was to the front of your vehicle, then it sounds like the body shp is not done with your car. end of story, let them fix it how they want, proper aiming/replacing/etc... but its theirs to fix.... give it back to them and be SURE to keep you insurance in the loop with whats going on.

You need to have the headlights adjusted.
After the repairs from my run-in with a coyote my lights also pointed down. The stupid dealer told me that the lights were fine but I persisted :rant: so they finally opened the service manual :spank: and adjusted the lights. If the sensors on the suspension or the motors in the lights go bad then the warning light on the dash illuminates.
Go back and make them adjust the lights per the service manual.

they can be adjusted through the fenderwell. it'll be easier if you remove the wheels for space. there is a bolt there behind the projector that can be turned to raise or lower the light's beam. you can also adjust it from inside the engine bay but that is a different method.

i've had my car in the body shop twice for work (dealership body shop) and both times when they told me to come pick it up it ended up staying. they never do the job thouroughly the first time, and i called them on it. take it back and make sure it's fixed right, insurance is paying them so they can't complain.

Carbon I know all about how they don't do things thoroughly, I finally picked it up after the 4th time of them calling me to come get it, so trust me i know all about their lack of competence. Unfortunately I wasn't able to tell about the headlights until they were on at night and I was actually able to investigate it. Now i've looked through the car manual myself to see if there was anything on leveling but all it says is that its self leveling so that didn't help me much. If your saying there is a section on how to do it can you please direct me to that page? I'll try taking it back again to tell him about the bolt in the back, he had no idea so i'm doubting he knows what to do, but i'll try telling them. Thanks for the input

thanks alot darkbrew that information really helped. The only question that I have is how am i supposed to keep the car leveled on the ground when I need to take the wheels off to get to the bolt? is there an easier way to reach it?
