Ok you are right: i should have bought the 230hp but i was sort of money and the chalenge series (i think is only in europe this series) with the 192 hp was at the time a good offer.

Let's say that i want to upgrade to 230 hp. is it possible? what are the difference of the two models? how difficult or not is it?

Forced induction is your real option here.

Get a Greddy kit. With research you ought to reliably being making the power you want and it will cost you under $4K. Cheapest route/ most effective route.

When the "smoke clears" I doubt if he would have only spent $4K on the Greedy. The only way I could see him getting away with that is if he installed and tuned the kit himself.

yes but then i would be a mechanic and not an architect! changing my career now is a bit fuzzy:rolleyes:

if i change the intake with the revi, the cat back with RB and flywheel will i be at around 210? max!! maybe with 100 octane?

new kit + install is going to be $4,200 range.. BOV is $200. Wideband and boost gauges for $300. New hoses and clamps for $120. So I'd say $5,000 is the best case if you're buying new and not installing yourself.

If he can get a used kit ($1800 - $2000, with boost controller and gauges), he can do this for around $3,000.

www.racingbeat.com

Here's a good website to read up on the real gains. They've done some extensive testing on their engine dyno and can give you some real expected numbers.

obviously, dont listen to these guys. they dont know what they are talking about, and if you follow them they'll have you spending thousands.

everyone knows the best way to get more hp is to get a body kit and stickers. here i'll start you off. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=rx8+vinyl&category0=

the body kit will give more air support and the stickers will be my air brakes :-)

ok if i also change the cat will i get something?

lighter tires, less petrol ? maybe if i take out the extra seats?

yes but then i would be a mechanic and not an architect! changing my career now is a bit fuzzy:rolleyes:if your not mechanically inclined to install a turbo kit, then youll have to pay for labor. If you dont want to pay for the labor, than you can't get the kit.

Also - if your not down to work on your car dont bother modding it.
- Everything associated will have labor costs that your probably not willing to pay
- Everything associated has the potential to cause problems that are not covered under warranty, and since you dont want to work on the car yourself - more labor costs

So what are you looking for 38 more hp for free?

At the end of the day you have a 192 hp RX8. I suggest buying a chrome fuel door cap and some hideous rims and call it a day.

+1 on Nitrous for cheap power gains.

its only a question of a 40hp gain.
that really shouldn't be that difficult...

maybe a better ECU, or an extra plug...

no, none can do many things and do them right, unless you're the same kind of napoleon, Caesar or Alexander (they say they had the ability of "multitasking")

i would prefer a specialized mechanic to do the work for me and pay him. otherwise everybody could built a house, pilot a plane or do a surgery... so yeah prefer to pay labor and be top quality than playing with an engine which runs at 8000 rpm with 200km/h+

Seriously, I'll save you time by telling you what the search button and an hour of reading would tell you: if you do all the bolt-on mods available for the RX-8, MAYBE you'll get 20hp out of it, tops.

Yup on a LS1 Camaro you can add 10hp with an intake and 40hp with an exhaust job. On a forced induction engine you can fudge the ECU and increase the PSIs and getting lots of horses, leading folks to think an ECU job on ANY car can lead to dramatic increases.

But on an RX-8, you'll be lucky if the intake gives you a 2hp peak gain, MAYBE 5hp with a new exhaust line... as for ECU flashes, YMMV.

That's why people are telling you the ONLY way to get significant horsepower increase like the 40hp you want is to go with forced induction. Sorry!
