Was in Nth Sydney the other day & spotted a "blue" RX-8 parked in Little Walker st.

I was working in the building right opposite it & could see the car in plan view all day. (lucky he didn't get a ticket as it was a 1-hour meter).

Was very interesting to watch guy after guy after guy check the RX out as they walked past. Literally dozens stopped & stared into the car. Others stopped to admire it. Groups would chat about it for a while & was impressed to see a good dose of females checking it out too.

There was a $120k Jag a few cars up & it didn't even get a snigger.

Seems the RX-8 will have the "WOW" factor for quiet some time yet. I recall when Mazda launched the RX-7 (overpriced) series-6 back in 1992, it drew the same attention for at least two years before settling down to simple admiration.

Anyone else got the same treatment from their RX-8's yet...........???

Amen to that L&L. Everyone says to me "you must get a lot of chicks with a car like that". The reality isn't quite so good, although the ones I have taken for a ride have been impressed.

Maybe a sign on the inside of the windscreen:

"Ladies - if you like this car and would like to meet the owner, please leave your number under the wiper"

It would only have to work once to pay off.... :D

How about a neon sign and a camera and voice recorder to take down the details...

Hey - there's a market here! Imagine a "Like my car? Leave your details" display that sticks to the passenger window and exposes a ccd video and mike - all voice activated. I can already visualise them for sale at Jaycar for $500 a pop!!!

The $600 model allows you to alter the message :D

Ditto for me too .. heaps of comments, stares and questions ... who'd of thought I'd be a celebrity ?? Particularly interesting how much attention is paid by women drivers of 'nice' cars , especially Integra type R

As an aside, I gave the 8 a big test on the weekend .. took her to V8 Supercar Mecca at Bathurst. Heaps of questions and not one mention of the old 'riceburner' taunt!

I love it!

Heaps of positive attention here. Except for the d!ckh3@d in the WRX that almost sideswiped me trying to show how smart she was.

Hey! that's my car - was brand new then !!

Hee hee - I'm pleased to confirm that I didn't get a parking fine that day.

Have since gotten one there though - turns out ( I must be the last Aussie to learn this ) that you can only part for 1 hour in a 1P ( wait ... ) and then you can't just put more money in for another hour ( made sense to me! ) but you have to actually move the car! Even if you drive around the block and come back and park in the same spot! What a stupid system.

Cost me $68 to learn that little gem. I gave the parking ticket officer a healthy serve for it though.. had to get my $68 worth..

I park there when I have a chance to get out on the road for meetings and I've had a zillion folk check the car out - it's actually all to common now to come back to the car, and find dozen's of finger prints on the driver side window - which it turns out is from people leaning in on the window to peer inside [ I got the tint with the cancer council approval ] - filthy beggars!

Thanks for the cred on the car by the way.

Here's a pic of it parked ( on the folks farm after having treked 11 hours from Sydney to Pamona which is 20 mins inland from Noosah ):

Had given the poor thing a little lov'in before the photo of course.

As for "chick's" checking the car out, they tend to ask the most questions, the guys just oodle and start * grin * - which I can understand, I do that and it's my car! hee hee.

Speaking of tracking down who drives what and getting in touch, a pal of mine launched a web site that would have been interesting if it wasn't for the small local market - you could swap your uber geek camera / mike / gadget for:

http://www.DriverSMS.com.au/

I haven't followed up how the site's been going since launch a long while ago, but a lot cheaper * grin *

SMS your vote now for your favourite Austalian RX8 Idol * grin *

I haven't seen any here yet. And I posted on the relevent US forum seeing if anyone wanted to say G'day - no replies yet. Maybe they are scared I'm a poof or something :P

You should use the natural aussie charm whitout relying on the rx8 . if that fails get a jar of vegemite that will impress her , my late uncle used to say "I MAY BE FAT BOLD AND UNATTRACTIVE BUT WHEN I STAND ON MY WALLET WOMEN NOTICE "

If they thought you were a poof they would be communicating with you quicker tryng to score a bit of aussie rump.

At least it wasn't a Hummer or one of those other butt-ugly SUVs. In the clear light of day, I think you two therefore have a lot in common.

(Hmm, perhaps that SUV comment was a tad judgemental.. Might be appropriate to log off for a while, to avoid potential torrent of septic spam) :D

The aussy charm is too easy. Yoy just have to talk and they love the accent. The southern female accent and hospitality is pretty enchanting as well...

One for the 350z vs RX8 folk:

I parked at the back of our data centre in Sydney yesterday morning, and guess what was in my regular spot? A god awful "tree fiddy" as someone previously christened the things ( who wazat? you're officially now the owner of a coinage !! wahoo !! ).

I could not help myself - I parked right up their butt and snapped a digital pic on the old P800.

There were a bunch of security staff out the back having a cancer stick.. and they were all grinning like cheshire cats..

Naturally I had to say it..

"Yea yea.. I know guys.. the irony of those two cars parked back to back hasn't been lost on me!"

hee hee..

I got a whole wall of "piss your pants" laughing!

++dez;

ps: will suck the pic and post later ( where's that bloody bluetooth gizmo? )

Alas, the only part of me that is black is slowly turning grey :(

As for the 8 inches ... well, I'll tell you a story about a friend's father who was a real freak. This chap, about 60 when I first met him, had an appendage hanging from his groin the size of my entire forearm - seriously! It was actually quite sad, he spent most of his adult life in the merchant navy, could never wear shorts and was very self concious about it.

He was a brit and white as could be!

Well have to tell you that some of the finger prints on your window was from my work mate as he hadn't spotted one up till then & wanted a good look-n-see.

My RX-8 will be a "blue" one, base model. Despite the Mazda dealers telling me that its the most popular colour ordered. Yours made just the 2nd blue Rx-8 I have spotted & I am spotting on average 3 RX-8's every 2 days while I drive around Sydney.

Strange hey!!

Winning colour dude..............:)

Well I'm glad to hear that they were for a good cause.

Part of me is keen to see more of them about as that will mean that support, parts, etc will be better for all of us.

The other part of me dislikes the fact that more and more I'm driving a less and less unique, "different" car - once we were part of an exclusive club - now we're just driving the latest car in a manufacturing line.

> Strange hey!!

Concentric circles I always say.. It's a small world at the end of the day - a small group of folk, in a small area in a small city, on a continent with a small populartion, on a relatively small planet, in a very very small solar system, in a very small corner of a small sector of a small arm of a smallish spiral segment of a small galaxy in a small cluster of galaxies - that is part of an surprisingly small corner of a bloody big universe from a bloody big bang which probably formed from the ejecture of a bloody big black hole in an even bigger bloody universe in a whole 'nutha alternate 'place!

> Winning colour dude..............

I like to think so - there's actually two of us with Winning blue in my car park, and a red one!

How mutch did that shit me off when I first saw them!!

I've since moved my car to in house parking so I'm a little more 'spesh' without the RX8 over crowding * grin *

If you're in the area [ North Sydney ] give me call ( PM me and I'll ship you my Mobile - or visit http://CradleTechnologies.COM and call the front desk and ask for the Cheif Pilot of the RX8 fleet * grin * - and I'll take y'all for a spin to Balmoral for lunch and back until you get your own '8 !

One for the weirdshitometer..

Had a coupel of complete numbnuts drive up within half a meter of my drivers side door - we wern't crawling - came up along side me with a handy cam rolling - filming the car..

not just for a few seconds.. for almost a whole minute.. I dropped back and they did like.. I got the shits in the end as I can only smile for so long..

Lost them in traffic quickly in the end as the needle on my weirdshitometer started to climb as high as my rpm count..

Either they were whacked out or they really really liked the X-Men 2 movie..
