Hello everybody. I hit 240 kl today on the 20ville marie going east bound. WOOOOOWWWWW!!! This car flies!!! :)
Ok now that THAT is outta my system, hee hee i'll get to the topic.
I am leaving my native and KICK ASS Canada for Australia (equally beautiful!) in a month and I'm debating whether or not to ship my baby (RX8) over with me to have some fun under the sun!
Anybody know if Australia would accept a canadian Rx8 to be driven on it's roads? I'm asking this because they are drivers' seat right as opposed to us in north america.

Are you serious? You dont see many left hand drive cars down under because it would cost a fortune to get it down there. You going to ship it and take a few weeks or air frieght it?
It would be cheaper to buy one down there, except the mere 950 allocated this year are all sold.

Yes I'm serious! It costs 3000 cdn ( marina insurance included) to freight it over with a ship from Port of Montreal to Sydney port. It will take 2 months to get there.
Now that THAT'S out of the way, can anyone answer my original question:

You might want to check out the import tax...that in itself will probably keep you from choosing to ship it over the pond.

Have you looked on google (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&q=Australian+car+import+regulations&spell=1)? Seems to be plenty of info there.

SELL YOUR CAR
You can buy a brand new BMW M3 if you bring your RX8 to here...
Private Import is VERY expensive... expect to pay tax equal to the value of the car. Add headlight washer, recheck windscreen, seatbeat and all that shit cause money
In fact they have strict rule to LHD and you prob end up not driving it!
Conversion sucks and kills handling...
It is only A$68250 to buy a leather pack RX8 here... but join the queue now as you are not getting your colour of choice until Feb next year.
For $68000 I can only import a Civic Type R (brand new) from Japan... see how much and not worthwhile it is... Forget getting a new GTR R35 when it comes out, too. (that is wrong as there is no skyline in the Nissan lineup) ~ THEREFORE it will be a low volme import = cheaper tax.

I don't know if Australia would accept, but in Spain you can see a lot of cars from England (more in summer) and they're allowed, they can drive all over Europe....
I think it would be the same in Australia.
