New Yorker 08-13-2007, 10:00 PM A lot of people who post here like adding their own subtle, or not so subtle, lighting—they do it for not a lot of money. I like the Mazda Footwell Interior Light Kit. It costs a lot compared to do-it-yourself ($110), but I'm not handy and like the fact that even I could install it—without having to know anything about LEDs, wires, diodes, soldering, or whatever. It gives off a really cool, subtle red-ish light that matches up nicely with the red lights of the instruments. And there's a timer so that they fade off gradually about 10 seconds after you close the doors—very cool. I didn't expect it to be a big deal when I ordered it, but once I saw the effect, I thought wow, this is very classy. Makes the interior feel more like a $40K car—for just $110! njcizzle 08-13-2007, 10:31 PM i'd like to have something that stays on as long as i want. what are those little red buttons in the center console? could you use them as toggle switches for something like those lights? Rotary Rasp 08-15-2007, 05:41 PM check here: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=118507 Throwdown 08-15-2007, 07:57 PM The Mazda footwell lights are trash. I put Rasp's kit in my car and it's a MUCH better kit. njcizzle 08-16-2007, 09:50 PM do those only come on when the door opens or do they stay on like when you turn your lights on zenmoused 08-26-2007, 10:08 AM Anybody drive a CX-7 at night? They have this focused blue LED that shines down on the shifter.... very sexy. I wonder how hard this would be to put into the 8? Ginx 08-30-2007, 11:12 AM New Yorker, where did you buy that footwell kit? Send me a link will you? Thanks! I put mine in to turn on when I open my doors, but I'm thinking of getting another kit to turn on when I turn my lights on. There is a thread in the buying/selling forums about Rasp's kit. He has a lot of pictures up there so you can check them out. Finding the right wires takes a little time, but mine were already loose from extending the wiring for my vertical door kit so it wasn't that hard for me. Also don't hesitate to send Rasp a PM, he naturally knows more about the kits that I do, but I can tell you he has a good rep on the forums here and everyone seems to be stoked on those footwells. |
