I've got 600 miles on my 8 so far and I still have that new engine smokey smell. Shouldn't it have burned off by now?

If it is the rubber smell, then you need to learn to use your clutch better. I never had the smell in my car from to new to now.

ditto the first two, you better have it checked out. I've never had an engine smell. I have 2,600+ miles now.

I have the smell and I dont think its anything to worry about. Cosmolene I hear is all over the new parts and takes a while to burn off. Just a thought.

I had the smell too. But now that you've mentioned it, I realize it's gone.

Thought this was gonna be about the smell of the leather. :D

I had the smell something fierce for about 100 miles (on an AT). The dealer said cosmoline. Then, I had the ValuGard (sic) put on, and got a bit of smell for a bit as well. Now with 620 miles I only notice it slightly, and then when sitting idle at stoplights and such.

950 miles now and I thought the smell was gone until my GF was driving behind me. No its not a shifting problem, i know how to shift. Smells like the cats burning in. Well Keeps people away from my tailend :)

No doubt about that smell, it was there for about the first 1,000 miles, since then its only showed up when reving before a launch.

O.K. know how the leather interior smells normally? Well after a good drive get out take some fresh breaths of air, go inside take a break then come out while the engine is still running and sit inside and tell me you dont smell a difference. That is how I first smelled it. I even thought a smoker had been in my car for a second!

I can't smell it while im driving but people behind me can smell it. It was MUCH worse for the first 100 miles or so. I also have a big Italian nose :). Happy Columbus Day to all the Italians out there.

I'm at 4700 miles, and the only time I notice the dish-rag smell is when I first back out of my garage in the morning, and when sitting still after revving up a few times.
