Ok this is how this thread all started in my head.
I recently told my father (age 48) that I (age 21) was planning on getting a new car. He said, "don't waste your money on a new car, just finish school, etc....you know the deal" Well I start thinking to myself, I'm somewhat grown, live on my own with my wife, I figure I can make my own desicions, but hey I look up to my dad who still to this day drives his 66' Chevelle Malibu convertable with his original 327 with only 41,000 miles on it. So I start thinking of a car that I will love to drive, and that I will still get respect from older people including my dad. I try running the idea of an SRT-4 by him, show him pictures, he laughes at it calling in a cracker box ready to kill some kids, that combined with the fact I have seen 3 high school drivers driving it made me decide against it. Then one day I came across the RX-8, I instantly fell in love with the car, after about 5 hours of hagling, I got the price down to well affordable. Called up the pops told him I bought a new car that I'd show up with it. When I pulled up he came out the garage and yelled "That thing got a wankel?!?" I probably laughed as hard as i ever have.
So the moral of this story and the question that I have, Is this car quite possibly a bridge between the older and younger car enthusiasts?
p.s. this has all been IMO
