I'm investing my money in the word "Lame". The 2 different sized wheels are horrible. If you pay close attention you can see the guy didn't change the wheel height. He added a larger rim but a smaller tire so it kept everything the same height?! When you use different sized wheels you're supposed to keep the same ratio between them. If you don't you just defeat the purpose. Also, I'm not sure why someone would want such horribly oversized wheels on a nice car but then I look at the car.....and think about the people who buy them....(old men who do no actual racing). and it all makes sense. It's just to look good as you troll the local high school in an attempt to reagin some of your lost youth.

I just drove a Red 2000 Vette today! TONS of power all the time.

Great ride, not as classy as the RX8 but LOADS and GOBS of power.

I think the wheels on a Vette are staggered though I'm not sure if they are 18/19, or whatever... I am pretty sure there it's lower than that.

I'm not sour about corvettes. I'm sour at their owners. People who buy these cars don't use them for their intended purpose. It's why I would also appear "sour" to every SUV owner on the road! Also, I'm all for custom wheels and sizes, just dont chop it up and the stock rims are MUCH nicer than the "bling bling" rappers wheels he threw on there.

he is 23

if he's 23, he truely deserves a $50K car. I wish him the best in life. He's lead such a troubled life up until now. When will the pain stop for him? Why can't he just catch a break?

the age more than explains the stupid rims now.

Jeez chief, you need to learn to better manage your stress. May I suggest some therapy?

I personally don't like the rims either, but there are many, MANY people who regularly track their Vettes. I have seen many of them at autox and track days. I think the ignorance and arrogance of your post would anger many Vette enthuasists.

How many 8 owners are actually going to track their cars? Are you going to start hating them too?

Dude! You are sooooo wrong! I've owned my Vette since new in '99 and I've taken it drag racing, autocrossing, and have done performance driving events at Sebring and the Atlanta Motor Speedway. What else do you want??? I agree there are alot of older Vette owners out there who enjoy doing car shows more than driving competitions, but it is totally WRONG to judge a whole group of people based on the type of car they drive!

According to your reasoning, there would be no reason for me to have bought the RX-8.

Keep your derogatory comments to yourself Turbo Matty!

Mikeb, tell your buddy that he got himself one awesome ride!

notice no'one touched the SUV comment. Granted my point was more generalized than it should've been but it's still a good point. I'm glad to see some true sport car owners using the cars for their intended purpose. As for hating RX8 owners... no way ever! The 8 isn't a race car. It's a very compitant road car. It's great car with adequate power and superb handling. It's not a race car. It's not a drag racer. It's a fun car with sensiblility in mind. I think the 8 is a great compromise between all things I'd look for in a car. It's sporty, affordable, smooth, unique, and stylish. If you're looking for a TRUE rotary powered sportscar hold out for the RX7.

What do you drive

current daily driver is a 95 honda civic. used solely for commuting to work and back. My real car is a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege. I'm in works of building the motor all out for racing and shows. When it's race ready you can rest assured I'll hammer it on the track like it's intended use. Also, before motor work began I used it to get back and forth in a sporty manner....as the car was intended. Whats your point? Got a wise-ass remark?

no smart ass remark
just wanted to know what you drive considering you think my friends 50k vette is lame

Turbo Matty P

I don't recall saying the vette is lame, just the wheel package. I like a good vette. I think they're highly overrated and overpriced, but they are great sportscars.

Mazdaspeed protege is what exactly? Dont have them here.

Is it a turbo mazda 6? FWD/AWD/RWD?

A dressed-up front-wheel drive economy car. They're not bad little cars, but it would have to be built out substantially to be a real racer.

I have, "all out for racing and shows". A heavy, FWD turbo saloon car is way away from all out racing, you can up the power from ist 170 standard sure, but getting it down will be a nightmare (can you say torque steer?).

I understand having a project car to go along side a daily driver but that I dont understand. I'm sure you have your reasons, but for track I'd go for something light & rear wheel drive.

FYI....if you go to buy used C5s, you'll find that the '97s are going for low to mid 20s. I don't consider that overpriced for what you're getting.....especially if you want to turn it into a show car or race car. My '99 C5 new was around $35K.....what I'd pay now for a loaded RX-8. New C5s run from the low 40s to mid 50s. BTW, my RX-8 is MT, base plus sport package, so it ended up costing around $28K. I intend to keep my RX-8 mostly stock...maybe a cold air intake and after market exhaust, but I'm pretty happy with it as is. Interior....I'm thinking a black and gray wheelskin and maybe Wet Okole neoprene seat covers (black and gray).

Guess I am one of those owners you are 'sour' at, as I also own a Corvette.

It is a 1964 Red Stingray Convertible w/ 327 Small Block, 4 speed.

Please share with me what is my Vette's 'intended purpose', so I am sure not to offend.

hahaha, I love that everyone is picking on my car now that I've rubbed the vette owners the wrong way. The facts are this. The mazdaspeed protege is the best handling FWD car sold on the market today. It has great tuning potential from the factory. It already outruns the RX8 from the factory, and it does it for $15K less. You guys want to try to jump on me now and pick on my car, that's fine. As far as building the motor in my "project protege" goes, what's wrong with that? The bottom end was made like crystal. It has to be upgraded if you're going to throw any more power at it. Once the bottom end is finished and it can handle the added power I'll look into how much power it takes to be counter-productive. I dont think theres anything wrong with taking that approach. I've built Taurus SHO's with 280hp that were amazing auto-X cars and scary drag racers. It just takes some time and a supportive web forum. I'm building this car up because it's a very stylish, quick, cheap, and soon to be powerful car. You guys sound like your grabbing at straws to find something to pick on my car about. Just admit it that it's a great platform to build on. There's no shame in that.

As for the antique Vette, way to go man. Garage it and take it to shows. I wouldn't race it for anything. It'll probably break. I've had several antique mustangs over the years and one thing I've realized about antiques is.....they're antiques. Unless the car is updated with current suspension, brakes, tires, transmission etc they just don't hold up as well as newer cars. They are absolutly gorgeous though. I wish I had a split window myself. I would park it out front with a for sale sign and laugh at the offers people made me!

The MSP is a great platform for a build-up, just a good as a Civic or any other solidly built four-banger.
